Serana pointed towards the blade with the Raptrix handle and said, "That one definitely." It certainly was a pretty design, although she knew nothing about weapons or even how to use them.

After picking out a knife, she meandered to the jewelry merchant and perused through the necklaces. Well, since he's leaving soon, I might as well give Tryston a parting gift as well... She was looking for something masculine, perhaps some kind of tribal bone necklace or something. She kept looking around as she thought to herself, Should I ask him...?

She should. "Tryston..." She paused, not looking him in the eye. "If you came face to face with something you knew you couldn't win against, would you still fight, knowing it was definitely the right thing to do...?"

"Alright." Nodding Tryston bartered with the shopkeeper for the knife. As he slipped the boxed knife into his satchel, the boy glanced around for Serana. Where had she wandered to? Frowning slightly he started forward once he spotted the janarim and girl at a jewelry stall.

As she addressed him Tryston paused, "Yes?" At her question the male grew silent. His expression was sincere as he pondered over the decision to fight. "If I knew that it was the definite thing to do then yes." He shrugged, "For a warrior like me it is only natural to die for honor and the right cause. While we may be hired swords we still pride ourselves in knowing when to fight. We don't just agree to take up the blade for anyone and even if we are not supposed to be involved there are some situations that require aid no matter what. If I didn't step up, even at the risk of death, then who would be left to defend those who are weaker?"

A faint smile crossed his features, "But then again who said that just because others say I couldn't defeat it that I can't at least try?" The swordsman shrugged lightly as he reached out to tap at a necklace of jewels, "Sometimes it takes a true challenge to see how strong you truly are. Though Lyrie does say that I one day I may kill myself with such foolish thoughts." The male shrugged once more. Perhaps he did have a bit too much pride in his fighting. Yet he never stopped trying. So far despite several near death situations the male had managed to miraculously survive. One day though....Tryston just shook the thought aside. He would train and become so strong that not even Lyrie would worry about him anymore.

"Oh..." So he would fight for a good cause too. At least Serana wasn't alone in that. Then again, who was to say that he would even try? It was different than fighting with swords. Serana giggled at the thought of Tryston sitting in the council and trying to speak up.

"Well, I suppose you're right, although I'm not sure if the council will appreciate someone without a voice to speak up..." She sighed and crossed her arms. She continued perusing through the necklaces until she found a simple leather necklace, with an elegant metal ring holding a Janarim tooth. She pulled the necklace off of the display and handed the shop owner a few coins.

She looked Tryston in the eyes, and said "Things... Are not okay in the council..."

"Yes, but actions speak louder than words at times." Protested Tryston quietly, "But I see your point. Always words and ink...." The male sighed. Not like he trusted that council to ever benefit anyone. Most of what he witnessed was the greed of others taking advantage of villagers. He would never sit still in such a place. So much talking just served to annoy him. He was much better at speaking with his sword than words...aside from Serana and Lyrie the male often didn't even bother speaking much at all.

At her confession, Tryston took a step forward. "Are you alright, though?" His golden gaze darkened with shadows despite the sunlight, "That council is not the best place, I'm sorry." He paused thoughtfully, "Is there something that I can help with? Though most of what I know is fighting. I'm not one for words."

He glanced towards her, "Actually." The male studied her for a moment as he thought more, "Fighting may be helpful. Let me teach you some things before I leave?" He didn't like the idea of leaving Serana alone, but he had to do his own mission and it would take him out of Zena for a while. Even with a janarim at her side the male would prefer if she could actually know some self-defense.

Serana stared at Tryston for a good few seconds before muttering, "Fighting..." She didn't like the idea of conflict because it meant that she would be hurting someone else, and that wasn't in her nature. Though given the circumstances, it might be my only option... After a moment of pondering, she nodded to Tryston. I guess it couldn't hurt to know a few tricks...

"Alright then... I'll follow you." She gestured him to lead the way. Iska stood side by side to her. He was rather curious as to what Tryston had in store for them.

"Good." Tryston began to walk away and lead the way through the village back towards the same path which had started his trip in the morning, "Pick a weapon." He gestured towards the blacksmith's stall. While the more finer pieces, even considered far more deadly, hung along the main walls the blacksmith did store training weapons. It was here that he motioned.

"Pick something and we will see what you can do with it, Serana."

When Tryston told her to pick a weapon, she was totally clueless as to what to pick. Picking a weapon was like trying to fins some trinkets for herself! After crossing her arms and looking at all the weapons, she decided on a lance. She picked it off the rack, and held it with both hands, feeling the wood of the pole, and looking at the blade tips. I suppose this doesn't look too bad... It isn't that heavy either...

"Alright... I choose a lance... Now what?" Iska grunted and sat down with some distance from the two of them as if he knew what was about to happen.

Tryston raised an eyebrow at her decision, "A lance?" Was that not too tall for her to handle? There was something strange about watching the normally peaceful girl holding such a big weapon. Yet, the word wasn't kind to such spirits and Tryston was determined to make sure that she had some idea of how to survive while he was gone.

Grabbing a plain wooden staff for himself, the boy motioned for her to follow him, "Let's get away from others and head this way." He started towards an empty area behind the smithy before glancing back at her, "Are you alright with that?" His expression was thoughtful as he studied the girl with the lance

"Yes, I'm okay." She held the spear upwards, keeping the back end of the pole on the ground. "What do you want me to do now?"

Something about her first time using a weapon was rather... intimidating. She didn't want to hurt Tryston, but then again the whole situation had a tinge of excitement and energy. If anyone would be able to defend himself, it's Tryston. He has more experience than I do...

She tilted her head, awaiting instruction.

"Most would start by having to learn the principals of stance and posture." Commented Tryst with a frown, "However, since we're only doing this for the day I'll have to quickly teach you." There would be no fooling around with random tasks or quests to help build up one's strength...he just wanted her to know some basics after all.

"If I may..." Moving forward the male left his staff on the ground so he could tap her hands, "You have to hold it at a tilt. While the lance's blade can rip into another what you need is to learn a defensive hold. We'll spar like that." He smiled, a rare sign of teasing from the male. "I don't intend to have us jab at each other right away after all." As he leaned close to Serana the male position her hands and then took a step back.

"Alright, I will hold my staff and you can try to attack me like this." He made a motion of how she could approach with the lance. It was slightly like swimming by jutting out a side at a time rather than just full on swinging the weapon...

Iska lifted his head and grunted when Tryston got close to her. Serana held her breath as Tryston positioned her into a proper stance. As he showed her how to swing, it almost came naturally to her. She pulled one hand in, and pushed the other out, like he showed her, but slowly. "Like... this?"

She felt like she knew this much. Maybe she was naturally good with a lance and she didn't know it. Well, it'll certainly be handy to pick up a few of these skills...

She kept doing the practice swings, and returned to her stance. Swing, back to stance, over and over, until he showed her something different. "How am I doing?" She felt like she might have the technique down, but only her teacher could tell her.

"Decent." He replied quietly as he watched her movements, "It's a bit rough, but you are new." Tryst motioned with his own staff as he too swung down towards the ground, "Less sway, more power. Though you may rely more on speed than strength." That was a point. Even he was one to rely more on speed than brute strength...it would take more training before he could handle one of those brute's broadswords.

Holding out his staff the male nodded to her, "Now try hitting my staff." He smiled faintly, "You're doing very well for someone not used to a lance, but you have a lot to learn. Today is a speed lesson so attack."

"Alright..." Serana took a deep breath and mentally prepared herself to swing at Tryston. She didn't want to accidentally hurt him, but she supposed it wouldn't be a serious injury. I'm sure he's used to a bruise or two...

"Ha!" she swing as fast as she could, not worrying about winding up for a swing to put power in it. She surprised herself with how fast it actually was, and even though it wouldn't hurt much, she realized that speed in a swing meant that she could barrage her opponent with many small blows, and combo them all together to keep her opponent immobilized and unable to react as much.

Not as harmful... I like it.

Key to his reputation among the other traveling swordsmen as a dancing sword Tryst managed to raise his staff up as Serana began her assault. It wasn't the slender frame of a sword so admittedly he did falter several times. Yet the idea of fighting with a sword verses a lance really didn't seem appealing to the male. He could admittedly get close, under the blade, and pin her there - but that wasn't his plan for the day.

Instead Tryston allowed Serana to continue her attack before he too began to push back with the staff, "You have to learn to watch your side while fighting..." He called out before sidestepping a blow and raising his staff out quickly. The wood brushed against her dress - right at her lower left side. "Else they can get under your weapon easily."

"Oh... Well, that won't do, now will it?" She took his advice, this time instead of recklessly swinging, parrying some of his counter hits. Given the circumstances and her lack of experience, she was doing rather well for her first time holding any kind of weapon. She also seemed to be catching on quickly.

Maybe I should get creative with my swings...? She did a quick swipe at his side, then a short overhead swing, and then a leg sweep. We'll see how he handles these.
