"Graduation!" Millie piped with a smile, "Congratulations!!" As if she had forgotten, the old woman jumped up nimbly and moved to a rolltop desk in the corner. She rustled some papers, hard to see, and came back with two greeting cards in sunny yellow envelopes. One said 'WIL' one said 'NASIR'. "A little something for you boys don't open them until you get home." She winked. Of course, being old, they most likely got no more than $20 from the elderly woman. "Tell me about it," Millie touched his arm to stop him rubbing what was clearly pink, healing scars. "Blackfriars. All the stories have been wild. Just wild." Her thin hand curled around his wrist as Millie's voice dropped, "Were there really monster people like they say?"

"Thanks, Millie." Nasir ducked his head down, smiling a little shyly at her as she came back with the envelopes and took them from her. "You know you didn't have to get us anything," he told her sincerely. It was almost like a game; him telling her she did not have to and her just telling him to shush and let her dote. Nasir froze in place a moment when she caught his hand, not realizing that he was doing it until she stopped him. "They weren't monsters!" his voice came out as a hushed whisper, but forceful because he was thinking about Lily and Eve and- "Sorry, I mean ... You know that it's not ... I mean what they're telling everyone around down, like the story the police spread, is not what ... really happened." Nasir really wanted to rub at his arm but did not but he did raise up the sleeve some so that the slashes there were far more visible and clearly from something that had claws.

Millie took his hand again, patted it and held it, " I believe you. Ashdown is never all it seems to be." Millie than released him and looked at his arm, only the smallest frown creasing her kind face. A bowl of hard candies was produced from seemingly no where. That indistinguishable ancient sort of candy that everyone's old grandparent seemed to have. Maybe there was an old person candy store? "Have a candy. It'll make you feel better. Did you know my friend Dolores has been feeding cats covered in flowers lately?? She says they are strays and show up at the back door, a big black one and at least two white ones. Growing flowers out of their bodies! I said Dolores they probably are rolling in your garden but she said 'No no Millie the black one looked very upset when I tried to pull them out of his hair'." She smiled kindly, "Ashdown has never been normal."

Nasir nodded and took a piece of candy, unwrapping it and then popping it into his mouth to suck on a moment. It helped even if he was not really fond of the flavor (those old person hard candies were a mixed bag of getting a good flavor). "I knew," he spoke slowly, thinking about what he was saying, "that it wasn't. I've heard the stories and I know people who are ..." He shook his head. Nasir couldn't talk about Lily and Eve. Revealing them would be horrible of him. "Flower cats?" Nasir blinked a couple times. "With actual flowers. That's ... I haven't heard about that. Just the usual stories about the place that looks like here but rains all the time and some others. Now there's going to be story about werecreatures." Except that he had not even mentioned those yet but talking about it had him rattled again slightly.

"A girl was asking me about the other place-" Millie conspired lightly with Nasir, voice dropped, "I ran into her in the pharmacy. Jesus got stuck with Rosi," She chuckled. "Seems she was having strange dreams about the other place." Millie straightened a bit, "Obviously I didn't know anything... but I try to encourage."

Nasir smiled slightly at the mention of Rosi, if only because he had heard about her and seen her a couple times. The young man was not sick that often thankfully. "I ... ah, I've heard about but never seen it?" His head tilted to the side a moment. "She dreamed about it? The place that looks like here and rains all the time?"

"Her name was Temperance." Millie nodded, "The girl who was dreaming about it. She was in an awful exhausted state..." The old woman shook her head, "I told her to go to Eve, not to take that pharmaceutical slop to make herself sleep, but you know young people..." Millie patted Nasir's knee, "No offense." "The last person I heard of who said she saw that place," The elderly woman shook her head sadly, "God rest her soul."

Nasir just smiled and gave Millie's hand a reassuring squeeze. There was little to take offense to. "That sounds kind of horrible if you can't even sleep because the dreams are bothering you ..." He shook his head, not sure if he would ever really want to know. Yet there was some concern in the back of his mind that if he lived here, was this just something that would happen? Nasir didn't know. Warm brown eyes blinked, his head tilting slightly. "Wait, something bad happened to someone because they saw that place?" Was Lily in danger? Eve? This girl Temperance?

"Now, I never said that-" Millie tutted, "She just died young is all. I don't like to probe too much into personal things like that..." Which was most likely a huge lie but she didn't like to speak ill of the dead. "And lord knows there were whispers after she passed." Millie shook her head, "Could've been by chance she said she saw the other place. Could've been something else."

"Oh! I'm sorry, I ... shouldn't just assume but the other girl being tired made me worried ..." It was honestly a good thing if it was not responsible for her death because that would make him worry far too much about Lily and the others that were involved. Nasir pulled his glasses off to clean the lenses and then slid them back on. His fingers immediately checked on one of the barrettes in his hair as a habit to make sure it wasn't going to fall into his face. "What kind of whispers? I mean ... was it more common that people knew about this place years ago?" If so then ... He had no idea.

"Well you know," Millie's voice was still hushed, "When you don't have the internet," she laughed a little, "people can only gossip. Truths get skewed or people think things.. A girl saying she sees the other side then ends up-" With a questionable end. "You know I helped deliver her in the hospital. Vivienne was her name." She smiled, "Don't worry about it though Nasir. You're a dear but unpleasant things from the past-" She made a headshaking frown. Nasir was a sweet thing. He didn't need to hear details she only half remembered after so many years.

"I kind of want to know," he replied quietly, "because I have a close friend who ... is involved. If she's in any kind of danger, I'd like to know, so I can tell her." More danger than she already was in after that night at Blackfriars. He rubbed briefly at his arm, frowning a little. "Can't always hide from unpleasant things." His gaze flicked back up to Millie, having looked down at the floor a moment. "Even if they've passed."

"Well I couldn't say or not who is in what danger.." Millie gave him a genuinely sympathetic look. It was simply a question she couldn't answer. "Aren't we all always in some kind of danger? From circumstance and life?" Millie's tiny cool hand reached and squeezed Nasir's tightly again. She was surprisingly strong for a little thing, "But Vivienne did die. She was very sick though. It wasn't because of monsters or... magic things as far as the hospital was concerned." "I'm sorry you are worried for your friend. I'm sure you could look into things if you wanted but if you think there are dangerous things Nasir," She finally released his hands with a smile, "You should be careful too. Sometimes all we can do is observe and support."

"I know," he said quietly. "I just don't-" Nasir let out a breath. "You know me, I want to help but I don't think I can help anyone with this. Not when I'm-" Normal. Nasir was normal. He was not like Lily or Eve who could turn into a fisher and a fox respectively. Or Detective Mercer who seemed to have a handle on the situation and his husband the professor- "If it wasn't magic things, I guess that makes it better. It's just that magic things are real and I always thought they were - you hear all the stories around town - but didn't think I would run into them." His hand covered Millie's and squeezed, mostly because he was feeling a little lost and she had always been so reassuring since he had met her.

"You're fine," Millie didn't want him to think less of himself because there were things in this town beyond normal people. "You always make people feel better. You've got a gift for it. Everyone likes you and values your company. Your cooking is a gift in itself." The older woman gave him a smile, "Been stories since before I was born and I imagine after I die. I'm still here- still-" she motioned to her very normal and quiet home, "Raised a family." She laughed, "It's not so bad," To be normal.
