"Ah! Oh yes!" He said and opened the bag the cat had been riding in. "Mogget was keeping them company!" He said and the cat chrrrped contentedly. Tapping his paw at her finger like he wanted her to come back for either more scratches or more cupcake icing. Zac laid the books on the table, pristine, but any price tags removed. After he finished setting them on the counter he took a breath and let it out. Studying her face, glancing at the book titles and then giving a small laugh. "Right." He said and then held out his hand. "Whatever you did, unless you hand me one, I might get a normal one. If you want to see...

"Ah! Great, thank you so much!" Once Mogget was done with her hand she nudged the books out of habit alone, though she didn't pick any up. When he finally spoke she startled a little bit, and she turned to see his hand outstretched. One blink later, and she understood; though she tried to keep the understanding off of her face.
"…Normal one?" Eli stared at him as though she didn't understand what he was saying. "They're just cupcakes, Zac." She laughed, waving her free hand at them, once more inviting him to take one. "They're not going to bite!" Well, a couple of them wouldn't. As disappointing as it would be for him to grab a harmless one, it would at least be something she could play off of later.

"Uh huh..." He said sounding not at all convinced. Too many clues said at least part of them were trapped, he wasn't sure why... not sure why at all- but he felt fine trusting her enough to take a cupcake. Maybe he just needed to trust more right now. Because she was 'normal', at least as far as he could tell. He picked up a cupcake, watching her face, particularily her eyes to see if there was even the slightest hint excitement in her eyes.

"You're so paranoid." Eli sighed. That tone of voice was one she was very used to. He sounded so much like her husband! Sure he had reason to suspect, but at least he didn't have to be so open about it! A small laugh followed, and she didn't even bother looking to see which one he picked up. Instead, she was offering more icing to Mogget.
She knew how to play this game, even if she'd pretty much already been caught red-handed.

There was trepidation in his whole pose when he brought the cupcake closer, he sniffed at it just to see if he could SMELL some hint of what was going to happen if he bit into it. Cyan pepper? ... Bug?... Super sour filling? Nope... He half choked on the food coloring and corn syrup that squirted into his mouth, and ran down his chin like he was a victim in a horror movie. He flapped his free hand uselessly for a moment before cupping it under his chin to catch the drippings while Mogget gleefully turned his attention to the now unguarded cupcake as a treasure trove of frosting. Like most cats he couldn't taste 'sweet', but butter...oh yes, butter he could taste.

Eli had been making trap cupcakes for years. Plus four of those years were in a dorm of art students, who caught on quickly and were usually pretty adept at noticing when something was off. Practice had been a strong suit of hers. If there was a smell, it was probably heavily covered by the fresh baked scent of the kitchen, and the cream of the icing. While he inspected her work, she just calmly went on playing with the cat, because gosh it was cute!
Zac bit into the cupcake, and she looked over to see which one he had picked up -
- and instantly uttered a well-practiced gasp of shock. She moved a bit, giving him room incase he wanted to flee to the bathroom (though she realized he wouldn't know where that was, so at least gave him room to the sink), one hand on his arm as though she were very, very concerned.
"Ohmygod! Zac, are you alright?!"

Like he could answer her with his mouth full like that, dribbling in rude ways because he was half afraid to swallow the red goo, too familiar with more soapy variety despite what his tongue was telling him. The texture was not exactly helping either and his hand looked like he’d shown up with late term ‘consumption’. Being unable to answer she got ‘mister spock’ arched eyebrow, well practiced and highly poignant in its ability to say ‘I know what you did there’. He closed his fingers into the sticky red tinted pool in his hand and…flicked it at her while he forced down the bite of cupcake and caught what was still running down from the small cake itself. “I’ll so offend, to make offense a skill, redeeming time when men think least I will.” he quoted at her, a small quip about her behavior with the cupcakes. Not a perfect quote but, hard enough when you were tasting corn syrup and food coloring more than cupcake. “… You blew it with the question about squeamish. But good show keeping them from dribbling everywhere.”

Eventually, she couldn't keep up the worried anymore. Her concern frown blossomed into an incredibly impish grin, her once wide eyes settling into the deviously lidded expression she usually carried. A small yelp followed the flick of fake blood, and she started laughing in delight as he still tried to save face.
"Y-you can spit it out in the sink if you want." She cackled out, quite enjoying herself. Even with his threat of payback.
Eli's giggles subsided slowly, and she wiped away a tear. "Can you blame me? I'm new in town, you were being nice. I second guessed myself." She cackled again, and ran her fingers through her bangs. "I never used to. I did blow it, didn't I? I won't next time." Her grin was as impish as ever, and her hands found themselves settled on her hips.
"Ahh, that was fun. My husband usually watches me like a hawk when I bake. Speaking of!" She pulled her phone out from a pocket on her pyjamas, and held it up. "Mind if we take a picture? I'm hoping to make him regret leaving." Her tone was sweet and innocent; she really didn't blame him for leaving, it was work after all. They had to make money somehow, especially with the baby. However, none of that would stop her from being an absolute brat about it.

He had to laugh, fake blood stained chin and probably teeth and all. “Yeah… go ahead.” He said trying to keep from laughing at the risk of spreading more fake blood. She really had done a rather good “Go ahead.” He said stifling a laugh. “Im sure he’ll be pleased you caught someone. If you…if you run into a young woman named Autumn, she’s had a hard week.” “I mean, I don’t see how I’ll make him regret leaving, not like this unless he traps cupcakes too…but uh…whatever makes you happy?”

"Nah, I get the look when I prank people. He doesn't trust me." Eli heaved a dramatic sigh. "Me, his wife, and the mother of his child!" Sure, she laid it on dramatically thick, but still. "You accidentally make him think someone's stabbed you once~" Her grumbling story trailed off unfinished, with a slow and sad shake of her head.
"He's usually the voice of reason. He'll regret leaving me to my own devices." The brunette assured Zac, her tone as delighted as ever, as she fit them both into the view of the camera. She snapped the photo of them both, making sure to look as devious as possible for Devin's benefit. Once happy with the resulting picture, Eli louvered the camera. "Also, wait, did you want me to mess with her, or are you asking that I play nice?" It was important to clarify.
"There's a bathroom downstairs if you want. It has mouth wash." She nodded to the hallway, where on the other side was the staircase going down. The bathroom wasn't too far away from there.

"No-no" Zac said hurriedly. "I would NOT mess with her, I think... it'd be appreciated if you didn't. She and um... Aleksy, he runs Pocket full of Posies are the two I'd say probably would take it the....worst of anyone I know? But uh... " He gave a soft chuckle. "Well if I didn't think you'd get in actual trouble I'd tell you I'd find it really interesting to see how my guardian reacted, but he's in the cops so."

"Sigh." Eli said, out loud and dramatically. "Alright, I'll keep my eyes out and avoid alarming them." It wasn't a completely sincere promise, but at least it was the start of one. Besides, she really should at least attempt to play nice with the locals - especially if she wanted to stay here for the long term. Plus there was Otto to worry about.
"Well, you can find out for yourself if you want. I can pack up the trap cupcakes for you!" She was still grinning that impish grin, her eyes still lidded to look lazy about it. "At the very least, you'll be able to pick them apart and still enjoy the cupcake as a cupcake."

He had to laugh at the offer. "How about a couple of them...I'll drop them off on your behalf with my friends. At least ones who aren't in the hospital and whom have a sense of humor." He grinned, the thought of handing Aleksy one of these was...almost worse than the idea of giving one to Autumn right now. He did though, wonder if 'Other Ashdown' creatures...ate cupcakes.

Eli chuckled, and moved around to head back to the kitchen, grabbing one of the more sizeable tupperware containers. She had to dig through a couple of boxes to find them, but she did.
"Nah, not on my behalf - they're yours to use how you see fit." With another laugh, she washed the container quickly, and dried it as she spoke. "Use your own judgement! They're great to use on people who deserve it." Walking back, she set the clean and dry container down, and started filling it with the cupcakes that had the tablets in them - all three of them. Still, it looked rather empty.
"Once, I was going to visit Devin - my then-boyfriend, now-husband - in his home town, and we ran across his big ex. Wicked nasty b***h she was! I don't think I've ever met a more shallow, selfish person in my life!" After some thought, she moved to the kitchen and dig around for a small container of sprinkles. "Anyway, I was very sweet the whole time - you know, played up the innocent, complimented her a bit despite her trying to make digs at him, and us. Then, before Devin and I left, I offered her one of these cupcakes - I told her they were low-fat, and made for Devin, so of course she was all for taking one." Returning to the table and Zac, Eli then started to put some normal cupcakes in the container as well. The bottle of sprinkles simply sitting off to the side for now.
"I made sure Devin and I booked it onto the next bus. There was no way I was going to be around when she popped the tablet! I did get to see her mouth dripping with the fake blood before the bus pulled away though. And the banshee screams!" Eli started to laugh again, one that was closer to a cackle, and an evil one at that. "Devin never really trusted my cupcakes after that, but it was so worth it." There were now six cupcakes in the container. The sprinkles were picked up, and dribbled onto three of them, in a seemingly random order. If he had been paying attention, he'd probably recognize them as the normal cupcakes.
"The sprinkled three are the safe ones." She informed him, in case he hadn't been paying attention. The lid was put onto the container, and she held it out to him like an offering. "There you go! It's all on you now."

He ducked his head and laughed. “Yeah… I do have a few ideas for people who I can sh… share these with.” He grinned. “… makes me wish I knew where some …people were.” He said half a distracted thought. He contemplated giving one to his Mother but, she wouldn’t find it funny, and he wouldn’t for long. He’d find someone who he could share with who wouldn’t hate him forever after, or safely dispose of them and the town would be ‘safe’ a little while longer.
