User ImageHe watched the paper ball go flying with amusement, smirking as it sailed away across the hall.

“Well then.”

Scritch scritch went the pen, and she was off writing. And more writing. Holy s**t what was she doing, inking a novel? Quirking an eyebrow as his head turned towards her, eyeing the notebook with trepidation, he wondered what this was going to be about. Should he say something? Or… no wait she was done. Maybe. That expression didn’t look promising though. His mouth compressed to a thin line, and then the pen was on paper again. Ok, what did he do. This wasn’t boding well. Shoulders meeting the wall again, he sat back and just waited, not sure what else to do. Eventually she seemed to finish and his ears turned towards her first before the rest of his head followed. Her face made him loathe to read the long note, but he took the pad from her carefully and settled it on his knee to read.

His mouth twisted as he read, uncomfortable with knowing more than he really bargained for. It answered things, sure, but in a way this was more intimate than her skirt flip. There was… a lot here to process. Opening his mouth to speak, he couldn’t really pick where to start or how to respond, and somehow knew he’d ******** it up if he tried. Too much was going on in his head. Glancing at her, he tried again and just ended up closing his mouth and reaching for her pen. Writing might work better, and would give him a chance to pause and think about each thing, plus he could just look up at what she wrote. Though his handwriting was nowhere as neat as hers even though she had massive claws. Sighing, pen tip tapped on the paper for a few beats before he started.

Ok.
I tend to hang outside if I can, to get away from the crowds between classes or whatever. I don’t like being around a lot of people, so the cafeteria bugs me. I didn’t look up into the tree, I was thinking I only had so much time before having to go back to class and wanted to eat. I didn’t hear you because I had my clips in, and they were pretty loud.

It freaked me out to look up and see a person, I wasn’t expecting that. I was stressed, had just lost my lunch, and now had an Imp in a tree grinning at me like a loon. I also had no idea that you were mute, I thought I just couldn’t hear you because of the clips. Plus you were acting like you were toying with me, or mocking me.

But you bought me food, and that was nice of you. Thank you. I was still convinced you were setting me up for something, since you were being so… flirtatious. Not something I’m used to unless I’m being jerked around. I thought you gave me your dorm number to set me up as a joke or something. But I didn’t want to be rude and just not show, so I wrote a note to leave you in case you were being sincere.

You have a crazy way of making friends, or letting a guy know you think he’s ‘cute’ as you say.

He kinda wanted to stop writing here, since the next part made his cheeks burn to think about. It meant either coming to terms with the thought that she actually found him cute for some reason, or that he had the same thought about her. Part of him wondered if he’d even bother to show up at her dorm if he didn’t. Was that shallow? ********, this felt like taking a risk, but really the worst thing that could happen at this point is she’d just blink at him and walk away. Or…. show her roommate. But hey he didn’t write his name so he could just deny it.

Yea, I think you’re cute, if a little crazy. Don’t know why you’d pick me out of a crowd, and still half-wondering if you’re going to start making fun of me.

And hey, I’m sorry too for being a jerk.

Was that good enough? It felt vulnerable to be handing her the notebook back, now with the page filled with writing. He couldn’t sit still to wait for her reaction either, getting up on his paws to stretch his legs and give him something to do besides watch her while she read. Though it didn’t stop him from glancing her way after bouncing on his toes for a bit. Ugh, this sucked. Leaning back against the wall, he folded his arms over his chest and just looked down at them, resting one clawed foot up against the wall and bouncing it while he waited.

Click to show. She waited patiently as he read her wall of writing, trying not to stare as she watched his expressions, but curious as to what he was thinking nevertheless. Had she written too much? Was he looking to be vague and subtle for a while longer instead of this? She watched as he tried to speak and failed, as if her words had stolen his voice, smirking for a moment at the turnabout before forcing her own expression to be more neutral as well. He turned to look at her, and she froze momentarily, watching him try to say something once more. Seeming to give up on that notion, she handed over the pen when he reached for it, curious as to his intentions. She had learned long ago that a pen was a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands, and she still wasn’t sure if she trusted his, though at this point she could only hope for the best.

Shifting slightly, she watched as he started writing below her paragraphs, as if mesmerized by the motions of his hands. She couldn’t see what it was he was writing, nor did she really care, but he was responding to her. There was the momentary fear of this being a ‘******** off and don’t talk to me ever again’ message, but as he kept writing that became less likely. Who wrote something like that in more than one line? Convincing herself that this wasn’t the case, she stretched her legs slightly, the soft fabric barely moving as the muscles tensed and relaxed.
Her ears perked up when his writing stopped, glancing over to see him mulling over something, blinking at how much he had written. He was either the most eloquent writer of farewell letters, or this was going well. Or poorly, he could be writing what amounted to gibberish. Her eyes flicked up to his face when he went back to writing, trying to read his expressions again before looking away, not wanting to get caught staring at him for now.

He wrote a few more lines, then seemed to ponder what he’d done before handing the notebook and pen back to her. She glanced at the first line when she felt him shifting next to her, looking over in shock to see him getting up. Did he really write a ‘get lost’ note? At a loss of whether to try and read what he had wrote or watch him walk away, her eyes stayed fixed on his actions, her expression calming down once it became apparent that he was just stretching. In her defense, she hadn’t expected that they would be doing this out in the hallway. She wanted to invite him in so there would be actual places to sit, but it would be hard to convey that sort of thing to him, and even if she did it still might be too soon for him.

Reading over what he had written to her, she blushed slightly at his admission at the end. He thought she was cute too? She glanced up at him once more as he seemed to settle against the wall again, cheeks tinting a darker red as he seemed to look at her at the same time, turning back to the notebook and picking up her pen before starting to write him a response.

“I will admit to playing with you a little in the quad, though never with a malicious intent. I’m more the type to sit back and observe, invisible in the background, so whenever someone does notice me I don’t always know how to act.

I might make fun of you, but I wouldn’t do it behind your back, that’s not the sort of person I am. I don’t mean any harm by it, and if I cross a line just let me know, okay?

Would you be okay with me inviting you into my room now? I promise there’s nobody in there waiting to surprise you. I understand if you don’t want to, and I don’t mind staying out here, but you don’t seem very comfortable sitting on the floor with me like this…”

She looked over the response that was much shorter than either of their previous ones, frowning slightly at it. There wasn’t much she could do about it though, so hopefully he didn’t mind it either. Looking up at him, she tapped his leg lightly and held up the notebook, pen carefully held against the paper with a claw in case he wanted to write a response. Resting her hands in her lap, she fidgeted for a moment before lowering her gaze, not wanted to make him nervous by staring.

User ImageNoelan looked away quickly as their gaze met, though not before he noticed her cheeks warming and felt his own do the same. He made it a point to find the opposite wall highly interesting for several long moments, barely reassured by the lack of laughter. The pen went to work and he avoided looking down to watch what she wrote, figuring he'd know soon enough and didn't want to be caught looking again. This was horribly awkward enough. Time passed, measured out by the bouncing of his foot against the wall which he'd given up trying to keep still. So what if it made him look twitchy, he felt twitchy.

Eventually there was a light pressure on his leg and he glanced down to see her looking up at him, notebook in hand raised in offering. He took it from her and then hesitated a moment before accepting the pen as well. Turning it towards himself to read her note, he grimaced at her first admission, though he already knew that. He could understand her reasoning in a way but he still felt... manipulated? That wasn't right. Something like that though. He kept reading, tilting his head at her invitation. Comfort was a foreign concept at the moment. Still, it would be crass for him to just take off after all of this. Unless he never intended to talk to her again, and that seemed a little extreme given the circumstances. It was sure to be painfully awkward though, the more so since he didn't bring any homework or something to do with him; he didn't come here intending to stick around, as the note he'd tried to slide under her door clarified.

Brushing his hair back with his free hand, he sighed and looked back down at her. A couple minutes wouldn't kill him, right?

“Ok, but not for long though. I still have homework to do tonight, and I didn't bring it with.”

Nor did he feel like scurrying all the way back to his dorm just to grab and come back to hers. Especially since he doubted very much his ability to focus right now. Passing the notebook and pen back to her, he shrugged and looked towards her door. It would probably be an uncomfortable half an hour filled with silence or him feeling like he was talking to himself, but if she was serious and this was just her way of trying to make friends it felt callous to turn it aside. He'd probably sit on the floor with his back against her bed, watching her study and asking questions here or there. Maybe glance around her room curiously before the overwhelming feeling of being an invader would make him look back to her and ask something else. Eh, it could be worse. Just sucked it was so hard for them to communicate.

He offered her his hand to help her up off the floor, making a mental note to pick up the crumpled ball of paper and properly toss it away before someone found it, his mind already on the next problem.
