The straight forwardness of his statement surprised her, considering how meek he'd been the entirety of her knowing him. He had a valid point, though; how much longer would her parents live? And how much longer would she have to spend with her sisters while they were still young enough for her to hold them?
"I don't know what's happened to give you wisdom like that, and I won't pry, but it seems to me as if you have a new sort of family now. The one who tells you 'thanks'." At least, that's how it seemed to her. He wasn't entirely alone in this world, and while he may not have had a full family, like her, to go back to just having that one spirit should have been enough.

Dexurn looked up again, even more surprised than before. She considered it wisdom? ..She seemed to actually be taking his words to heart. He hoped he was saying the right things...
"Well, not family, really... My friend I'm traveling with. ..And other friends I've made. You..." He looked to Dris with a rather warm expression. "I've found people who say thanks to me, which is something else I didn't see coming. I've said thanks to you once so far. You'll find more, surely."

"Friends can be just as close as any family member." Dris'rynne pointed out. Granted, she didn't have any close friends, but she'd seen the bonds made within the mercenary band. It went beyond blood, beyond bone and straight to the soul.
She smiled to him, glad that whatever he'd seen in this world hadn't outright ruined him. Too many matorians had face nothing, but misery in Oba, but if he could find reason to smile then she had hope for him.
"Where are you and this friend of yours staying, Dexurn? Maybe the two of you would like to join me tonight near the merchant's caravans for dinner. I'm not much of a cook, but I do have a bottle of wine to give it flavor."

Dexurn paused a moment before nodding. His auntie back under his master's rule hadn't been blood, but he did still call her auntie. "You're right. There was an older woman who took care of me growing up. She wasn't blood, but she never treated me like I wasn't. I didn't get to know my blood relatives... but I had her."
At first, confusion crossed his features. In an instant though, it became the most grateful smile. "I'd love to! I.. don't know if my friend will join. She.. probably won't. If I can, I'll be there." Bringing a woman trying to lie low to a gathering of mercenaries was probably not the best idea. At the least, he could probably take a little food back for her after.

"Well, we'll just have to make sure to have twice as fun so you can tell her stories." She would have to tell Niyani to cook up an extra large meal tonight, one fit enough for him to bring back leftovers for this mystery girl.
Looking over her shoulder Dris'rynne noted that her men were shoving away empty plates and starting to stand. Apparently they'd gotten a tip off for a new job, as was noted when her second in command began to wave her over. "No rest for the wicked." Dris'rynne slipped out of her chair and stood, curling her toes with a good stretch.
She looked to Dexurn, and smiled, "I look forward to seeing you this evening, Dex. Don't get lost." After all, it wasn't every day that she actually made a friend, and Dris wanted to get to know him a little better. He seemed like a nice enough guy.
After placing money down on the table for her meal, she moved closer to her men, chatted about the latest mission, and sauntered out of the tavern, off on another adventure.
