Pax took the water gratefully. Luckily, it had mastered the use of cups in previous adventures, and so it sipped very genteely as it watched Eve. There was a little bit of suspicion as it reached out to take the candy. It locked eyes with the small treat, steeling itself for a second encounter with that awful crinkly sensation. But it popped the candy into its mouth anyway, and this time its face lit up with pleasure. "Much better," it said. It looked like nothing more than a very eager student just then, wide-eyed, ears pricked up and directed towards Eve to absorb all of her human wisdom. "What is tea? Does Autumn. Like it?"

Pax's next question brought a small chuckle out of Eve. "Of course she does. She works here sometimes, after all," and she loosely gestured over to the tables and shelved stocked with boxes and canisters. "A lot of humans like tea. Some of us drink it as part of a ritual. Others just enjoy the taste." A moment of quiet -- and then, a sudden idea. "Would you like to learn to make some?"

Pax relaxed into a smile. If Autumn liked tea, it was sure that it would enjoy it as well. Autumn had impeccable taste. It took a few steps, hooves clicking on the floor, towards one of the displays. There was nothing more than boxes there, which was confusing, but sometimes boxes held other things, which was not. It stepped away from the shelves to look at Eve again. "Yes," it said. "Please. I want to learn. Humans are so... interesting."

After a moment of deliberation while filling and switching on the electric kettle, Eve settled on white peony, which was among the most delicate and bright varieties she kept in stock. "See if you like how that smells," she offered, tilting the open container towards Pax to sniff before scooping a bit into a small steeping basket -- enough for just a cup, and the guest's emptied mug was conveniently available. "So, you take the tea leaves... and some hot water... sometimes you boil it, but not for this kind." Then she poured some in, a bit of steam curling up and away into the air. "Then you wait for a few minutes for it to steep. See it changing color?"

Pax bent forward to sniff as it was told, and nodded. "Flowers," it said, straightening up. It delicately touched the flowers in its antlers, tugging them for emphasis. "It smells of. Flowers." It smiled. "It must wait now?"

"Yes." A few minutes of silence followed, but they were far from unpleasant - in spite of the low lighting and still air of the shop, it had all the comfort and ease of a natural pause in conversation in a spring picnic. "And here we go," Eve said, lifting the steeping basket out of the cup and setting aside. "It's ready to drink whenever you're ready. Be careful, though, it'll be a bit hot."

Pax picked up the drink and sipped it, apparently unbothered by temperature. Its nose wrinkled, and it looked down at the tea with all six eyes for a very long moment before tentatively sipping it again. "It tastes like... flowers." It looked at Eve for confirmation that this was a correct way to taste tea.

"Yes," Eve confirmed with a warm smile. "Do you like it?"
