Callum's heart felt as if a great weight had been lifted from it. Gradually pieces of that same hopeful attitude he'd carried before arriving in Jauhar were waking from death to banish any ill tidings that remained. This would happen; they could make it work!
That quick kiss hadn't been nearly enough for Callum. He melted against Nimueh, letting his lover make the first push before the emboldened shifter pushed back. His hips rocked closer, one leg rising to prop itself on Nim's thigh.
Stolen kisses passed into worthwhile moments, and while the struggle to stay clothed had been real, Callum had kept his promise. Of course, this didn't mean that he wasn't ready to break that oath at any one moment, nor that his lovers lovely azure skin wouldn't come away without a glorious hickey.
Callum was still seated atop Nimueh when the door began to open. He didn't bother moving, but he did stop toying with his lover. There was no point in hiding their connection, not now, but he had no desire to traumatize the elderly woman.
Except, that's not all who entered the home. Callum couldn't help noticed the very large woman trailing in behind her. She smiled at them, and seemed as if she were about to speak when Corine interrupted. "Boys, this is Eema. I think you'll have a lot to talk about."
Her mixed blood was fairly obvious; Eema carried herself with all the dignity of her iceling heritage, but the confidence in her stature was all alkidike. Her straight inky hair fell down her shoulders like a free flowing waterfall, free of dreads and tangles alike. When she moved it following her like a whip. "Um..." She cleared her throat, and began again, "Corine tells me that you had some problems...but you still want children? "
This...seemed like the appropriate moment for Callum to turn around into a slightly less comfortable, infinitely more chaste seating position atop his lovers lap. Just how much had his grandmother told her? And was she...?

Let's just say that the remaining time, waiting for Corine, had melted into nothing when he had Callum so close. What had started chastely as a kiss had soon progressed on, until -- well. While his smaller lover was able to recover quickly, turning towards the door as if he'd not just been necking with his partner, Nimueh had a bit more difficulty, and instead rubbed a hand over his nose and mouth to hide his flush, wishing that he had his Zena furs to hide behind. In Jauhar, with only trousers covering him, he felt infinitely more guilty, and exposed, now with an audience stepping through the door.
Only... the person who followed Corine in was a surprise. Tall, with long silk hair and dark, inky eyes, if she closed her eyes Nimueh might have thought her simply a large ice earthling, if not the telltale green markings of an Alkidike. With Callum repositioning himself, Nim was able to stare at her openly. It wasn't with desire or anything of that nature, but wonder. Sure, he'd seen other alkidike hybrids, but none of his own nature. It registered, distantly, that her hair wasn't dreaded, but such concerns felt like they came from a different lifetime. Once, it may have been enough to make him flush in shame, but now? Now it meant very little to him.
While it was amazing, in its own right, to meet someone so similar, her words reminded him what topic she must have been brought here about. What interest did this stranger have in this? Could she possibly be thinking what Corine had suggested, earlier?
"We do." Nim finally answered, looking at Callum, before turned his attention properly to Eema. "Even if it's a difficult road, we're ready to walk it. Together." Then, realizing how utterly ridiculous his words where (as if he had to prove to Eema, this stranger, their conviction), Nim flushed and ducked his face against Callum's hair, taking his hand and lacing their fingers together shyly.

Callum wasn't entirely sure if what he was seeing was a real woman, or some sort of apparition. She had the sort of frame that might have been impressive with a warriors muscle, but her limbs were soft and inviting in a comforting sort of way. It was easy to imagine her being strong enough to dead lift an unconscious foe, but also tender enough to be a safe haven for lost souls.
"And that's why I want to help." Callum could see her fingers twiddling against her legs despite the calm way in which she spoke. Eema was nervous, and rightfully so. "Corine has been a patient of my mother's for many years now. Just check ups, nothing terrible," She rushed to add, "so when she told me about the two of you...Well, my mother is surrogate. She has been for many years and I want to follow in her footsteps, but there hasn't been much call for a hybrid to help with building family's."
Callum nuzzled his head against Nimueh's, and held onto his hand while giving Eema his full visual attention. "Are you sure you could do this? This would be your first, correct?" She didn't look old enough to have done this before, and from the way she spoke it was obvious to Callum that Eema hadn't had any experience. He was cautious; what if she grew attached and kept the child? Would they be able to take it from her?
"We could have it in writing if you'd prefer. That's what mother does." She seemed so sure of herself that it was hard for Callum not to be suckered into it. He unconsciously squeezed his fingers around his partner's, as if just the thought of having their desired results so close panicked him.

How had they not met this woman in the past? Traveling about as they did, it was shockingly easy to convince themselves that they were the only hybrids nearby, the only ones going through a struggle. And yet here, so close to where Callum had grown, was Eema. Still somewhat shocked by her presence, Nimueh's mouth worked, trying to find some way of reply that didn't turn into excited blathering. He nodded, features etched with sympathy and understanding. If she truly had a call to help build families, it must have been hard to be turned aside because of her blood - it wasn't until Callum spoke that the earlier concerns were reintroduced.
Oh-- yes. She came from a family of surrogates, so she would have a better understanding of this sort of thing. But... if this was to be her first, Callum was right. She may find herself unable to go through with it - and that risk did worry him. And yet...
Would they be able to find another woman who had already agreed to it, already had an idea of what it was to give up someone she'd carried for so long... and, on the opposite end, she had Nimueh's same bloodline. If their children couldn't have his own blood, but could... have some small reflection of their father, some small resemblance, couldn't they have this?
"If we do this... we would need to stay here for some time, until you-- and until the babe is old enough to travel safely. Could we..." Nim cast a look at Corine then, uncertain if she'd be content to have them in her house for... for the next year, possibly. It itched, to have to settle in a place, but for this? For this, he would do anything. "And then, how would we get ...er... started once this is ready?" He squeezed his arms around Callum again.

Callum was twitchy. His leg was bouncing up and down, but why he couldn't pinpoint. His nerves were a jumbled mess of childish excitement, and worry. While this certainly wasn't the plan they had come to Jauhar with, it was a very close second that Callum had a hard time believing was actually happening. He wanted to scream, to hug everyone, to just go for a run....something to let go of all the energy in his system.
Corine wrinkled her nose, "As if you have to ask. You boys can stay in Callum's room; we'll have to get a bigger pallet for ya, though." Callum could already see the little wheels in her mind working; if Corine had it her way not only would that room be fit for them, but it would also be packed to the gills with baby gear as well.
Baby.
Oh...right. Callum had been so focused on the end goal that he didn't put much stock into how they would get there. He snuggled into Nim's hold, pondering on this himself. "What if we work out those...details in a bit, in private?" Callum wasn't entirely sure that he wanted his grandmother listening in on what kind of sexual schedule they were about to concoct. "And we can come find you tomorrow, Eema, if you don't have any other...plans? I don't know about anyone else, but I'm still trying to put together that this is a thing and that you're helping us and I'm...I'm just a little overwhelmed this evening."
"Of course," Eema smiled. She seemed just as giddy as Callum, though the girl had better composure.

And so it was... settled. Was it possible that, in such a short conversation, they'd found their surrogate ?? All the negative emotions from before still lingered, but in the overwhelming crest of emotions, Nimueh knew that such feelings would be put to rest soon enough. Now? Now, they had to fight the swell of pre-baby anxiety. Callum himself was just about vibrating in excitement!
Oh, right. Nim nodded and offered a half-smile, rubbing his hand down Callum's back soothingly. Yes yes, that could all be handled later - for now, it was enough that the plan had been set in motion.
Corine was letting them stay, and Nimueh was fighting the urge to jump to his feet and hug Eema, tightly, for volunteering to help them. A baby. They were going to have a baby - in theory - very soon.
