Borr tilted his head with an expression of agreement. "He'll be forty and you'll still worry. Such is life." Even Wil could be a worse kid, but the bar owner knew how the young man had a knack for pushing buttons. "AT least he'll be well fed."

Jeremiah's fingers tapped against the counter, a steady rhythm that beat out Sympathy for the Devil (why that was stuck in his head, he had no idea). "More than likely, Borr." Another sigh, watching the man as he moved around the bar. He had known the man for years at this point, sometimes he wondered just what he thought about all the strange things that happened in town. "I repeat: Nasir is the saving grace. Otherwise I likely would have reacted far, far differently." Before he could stop himself at that. It did not help that he was practically allergic to Wil. Bugger. Now he was thinking that he was allergic to Wil. It was what he smoked, damnit.

Borr chuckled and shook his head, "You're protective. But you know even if he went to live in a flop house, you having a strong opinion doesn't matter much." The old man rubbed a hand through his beard, "Don't mean anything bad by that but- he's at that age. Time for him to learn things for himself and to rebel on purpose."

"Over-protective is what you mean." Jeremiah sighed again, fingers tapping in a brief annoyance. He knew it and was working on it before it got him into any more trouble. The detective snorted. "I know, Borr, I just ..." Shaking his head he gave the man a wry grin. "I don't think I anticipated how much him moving out would be a thing." He let out a small laugh. "Or that I would be a dad." Since he never planned on having kids but Zac was very much his at this point (and never mind that he had seemed to fall into some kind of father role with others as well).

"You'll survive.." Borr chuckled, "I think becoming someone's dad just comes with aging and giving a damn." The big man gestured around at his small domain. Most of the employees would call him a father figure, and he considered them all like family. In fact all of Ashdown had become his family and it was entirely unplanned. "At least you didn't have to deal with the gross baby stages.." Borr chuckled again but truth was... he loved babies.

"I'll be fine, I know. Alg just says it's empty nest syndrome." ... also that he was handling it much better this time around without the memories but Jeremiah suspected that was because the other man was around and had immediately reassured him. He watched Borr, smiled a little bit of his wide gesture towards the bar. "No, I didn't. Don't think I would enjoy it but then I did not think I would be raising a teenager either." Jeremiah had not expected to enjoy raising Zac. "I suppose the families you don't plan for are the ones that mean the most," he finally said and meant it. "Also that you probably have far more children than I do at this point." Another wry, amused grin was given.

Borr chuckled, "Possibly.. everyone needs someone to look out for them at least. At least I only need to keep my idiots fed." As if on cue a fat rottweiler waddled out from the back, sniffing the air because he smelled cat. Knucklehead came a few moments behind, trying to scratch her ear and walk at the same time, before they both found themselves on either side of Jeremiah's barstool and snuffling at him and wagging and very interested in the cat thing. Borr and Darlene could never have children, something to do with her health and in the end connected to her cancer, but she especially had made the concerted effort to instead take the town and her neighbors on as family instead. Families could really only be what you made them. "Besides you got it made now.. No teenager in the house to bother you. Not when you are enjoying scotch for two-" His brows rose and he smiled, but before he could be called on the commentary, someone at the other ended of the bar needed a refill and he moved away a moment.

Jeremiah snorted. "Yes, just food and drink for them." It was true and the detective was watching as the two dogs made their way to him. Hellbine did not seem to be phased, only cracking open a blue eye briefly before he went back to sleep with a low content purr. If there were flowers that happen to be appearing on the stool legs, well ... Otherkitten. The detective stared hard instead of saying anything, especially since the other man had to go deal with someone. "... and on that note, I'm paying for these and leaving." His wallet was pulled out and a credit card slid onto the bar. "That and I don't want to find out if he's gonna stay relaxed around these two." So far, so good.

Borr laughed a bit as he took the credit card, "Fair enough. Better you take him away... any more plant growth and the dogs'll be pissing in the bar thinking it's outside." They weren't the brightest. The card was swiped, the receipt presented for signing, and the older man pushing the neatly packed box of alcohol over for Jeremiah to take with him. "See you on Saturday. Give everyone my best." He winked and laughed again.

Jeremiah raised an eyebrow at Borr's reaction. "You and me are going to have a talk sometime about how that does not phase you in the slightest." He took the card back, signing the slip of paper, and then slid it back away into his wallet. Hellbine was plucked off of his shoulder and set into the box with the alcohol. The kitten looked vaguely as he tried to scramble up to look over the side. So smol. That wink and laugh got a roll of his eyes. "I'll see you then, Borr, thanks." Then with a rub to the ears of both dogs, Jeremiah was taking his box of alcohol and his kitten out of Darlene's.
