Amity held the compass close to her chest, wings furled against her back as they entered the library and started going down the center of the building. She'd visited the Gambino library a few times now to check out different things, but she still wasn't use to the quiet atmosphere that was present in these kind of places. Not a bad atmosphere, per say. Just different.

Ronan went ahead and murmured back to Louis. "I figure we'll move around it in a circle, or close to it." He leaned back over towards Amity, checking to see if the needle had changed its current direction or not.

As soon as the group entered the library the arrow on the needle started to tilt upward. If not the roof, then an upper floor was sure to be the spot for Team B to look.

Although the central library of and for the citizens of Barton, the library was much like the city itself - small, but full to the brim of things to see and do if one knew where to look. At a not-so-staggering three floors high, at least their search area was relatively small. Durem's library would have caused more of a fuss.

As the Team goes to the second floor, it proves to be much the same as the first: a secretary's desk at the far back for any reference needed (missing: one attendant at present), a few computers cloistered together (and older than should be acceptable in this day and age), several nooks with cushy chairs and sturdy coffee tables for any college student's afternoon study session, and several tall and long shelves filled to bursting with systematically organized books. Like the first floor, nothing appears to be out of place, but one can never be too sure unless one looks really close. Of course, on a library floor the devil in the details here would be the READ posters dotting the walls, some forgotten homework assignment, and the knick knacks left out on the librarian's desk not limited to a cup of pens and pencils, a short stack of fliers for springtime events and a long peacock feather tucked off to the side in a fake but convincing looking potted plant.

The quiet atmosphere of the library became even more pronounced when the group reached the second floor of the library. This was where the more mature library goers tended to hang out. Unlike the kid’s corner with their colourful wall decorations, mascots and brightly coloured chairs, the second floor contained mostly reference materials. Reference materials which were quickly falling out favour as more and more students brought their laptops along for a quicker and more convenient data search, the decrepit old computers provided by the library mostly ignored.

There was currently no librarian on duty here. Which was a good thing since they’d be combing the area for a missing fel essence. “Is the needle still reacting?” enquired the Sigel as he floated over to the librarian’s desk, perhaps hoping to find a small note stating the estimated time of return for the absent librarian.

“Give a call if anyone finds anything suspicious,”

Coming up to the upper floors made Louis even more nervous. The posters that lined the walls seemed almost like propaganda. Granted it was a long time ago since he last stepped into a library but we're they always this aggressive in promoting good reading habits? Louis quickly snapped back to reality, and began his search for the essence. He walked down the aisles of book, taking a quick glance at the shelves for anything that might seem out of place. He had no clue what to look out for, and fact that there was hardly any activity distracted him.

"Nothing over here...." Louis whispered, though rather loudly. "How's it lookin' with the compass"

Ronan nodded at Xiu's instructions. "Will do." While the floor was far from crowded there were still a decent amount of people present, several students studying at tables off to the side and a few people browsing through the books. He was glad that where ever the essence was it wasn't causing a disturbance, though that did make it a little more difficult for them to find.

Amity's head turned at Fisher's question, looking back to the compass a second later. Time to see if there was any sort of change.

The compass does react, pointing straight ahead of the group between two aisles, toward the desk of the absentee librarian. Beyond that point there is a single closed door leading to what would perhaps be an office or a storage closet. Of course, the compass cannot tell anyone if the Essence lies beyond the door or merely behind the desk, but either way, it seems what Team B is looking for is as straightforward as the compass shows.

Xiu felt his heart beginning to race when the compass indicated the direction in which Team B should proceed. Unlike its previous wobbly approximates, the compass was now steadfastly pointing in a single direction and that direction seemed to indicate that the group should go through the door behind the librarian’s desk. Which was…tricky.

Mostly because Xiu knew that it was wrong to do so. There was even a black and white sign saying “staff only” pasted on the door’s wooden surface. Giving a furtive glance at the other library goers, the Sigel gingerly floated over to the closed door and tried its handle. Locked.

“We need a key,” said Xiu as he turned his attention towards the librarian’s desk. “Perhaps the key is in one of these drawers,”

As his hand poised above the handle of the first drawer, the Sigel hesitated. This felt wrong. He was breaking in. What if they were caught by the librarian who happened to returning from her break? Or what if one of the other visitors raised an alarm.

Worriedly Xiu withdrew his hand. Then as though stalling for time, the Sigel glanced at the expectant faces of his team mates. “P-Perhaps this would be a good time to tell you what to look out for in a fel essence,” mumbled the Sigel distractedly.

“Basically, we will be looking for something that is not…man-made. Fel essences are in short…anomalous occurrence in nature a-as I am sure Ronan is aware of. Err…seeing that you already have Amity. So we will be looking for something seemingly natural. A rock, a puddle, an unnatural gust of wind or even a feather…,”

As those words left his mouth, the Sigel felt his eyes inadvertently drawn towards the fake potted plant with the peacock’s feather stuck roguishly at its side.

“Amity, if you would be so kind…,” said the Sigel quietly.

Louis joined the rest of the group towards the librarian's table. There seemed to be some kind of reaction from the compass and it was pointing right ahead of them, towards the desk and the room behind. Did they finally find it? After the explanation from Xiu turned his head towards the feather as well. It was odd that there was a feather just sticking out there, but he was expecting something a lot more, supernatural. Hopefully, they'll get some sort of reaction from the compass.

While the others went behind the desk to look for what the needle might be pointing towards Ronan went ahead and kept watch. He had no idea what the librarian might look like, but at the very least he could give warning if someone started coming their way.

Amity saw the feather Xiu pointed out, but internally she was a little doubtful. He'd mentioned the stuff acted weird, so... shouldn't they have probably noticed something by now with it? She could be wrong of course, but part of her wanted to see something flashy. Floating in between the desk and the door Amity rotated towards one, then the other, to see which direction the compass would point.

Innocuous. That's perhaps what someone would call the area that the librarian's desk occupied, but for Team B they might throw a 'still' in front of that word. The Fel Essence they had been sent to find was perhaps the most calm of the bunch - no disturbances, no reaction, not even a weird smell. If they hadn't had the compass, it would be a real cause for concern for those of them who were strongly against disturbing other peoples' property.

Speaking of, as soon as Amity drew close to the desk, the needle reacted again. It tilted to her right before stopping again, flickering on a spot that corresponded to the librarian's desk and the potted plant upon it. Even with this new reaction from the magic device they had been given, there was still no reaction from anything the needle pointed to - be it the plant, the feather sticking out of it, or the stapler tucked just behind the pair on the desk.

Generate a number between 1 and 3. If you get a 2, the Essence will reveal itself. Please fill out your post but then wait for the GM to respond. This will change the post order and the GM will then be slotted in after the one who rolled the 2.

It was not behind the locked door. This was certainly a relief. But a short lived one because the compass Amity was holding indicated that the fel essence was right before their eyes. While Xiu was fairly certain it was the feather (since it looked the most organic of the lot), there were other items in the way that might conceal the essence. For example, what if the fel essence mimicked objects?

Gingerly picking up a ruler from the far end of the desk (with the intention of placing it back later), Xiu gingerly nudged the potted plant further to the left. If the fel essence was indeed the item he had suspected, the needle should likewise move accordingly in its direction.

When the needle pointing right at the table, Louis gave a sigh of relief. He was glad that they didn't need to break into the back room. Looking at the table, there was a lot to take in. While the obvious choice was the feather, Louis wasn't that sure any more. Hell, the table itself could be the essence, maybe. He gave a glance at Amity and the compass, hoping it would reveal more.

Amity's face changed to one of pure confusion. The needle was pointing straight ahead but there was... nothing there? Or at the very least, nothing that looked like it was out of the ordinary. Slowly she waved her hand in front of the compass, then the air in front of it before patting the section of desk it was pointing to. Was the thing... invisible or something? Or just looking like something else and rather non essence-y?

Most of them had given the table a once-over but perhaps looking too closely was what caused the Essence not to react. Louis, who merely gave the table and its assortment of belongings a glance, was the unfortunate one of the bunch. Out of the corner of his eye before he turned to look at Amity's compass the eye on the top of the peacock feather seemed to follow him. Then, unbelievably, it blinked at him.

And that appeared to be it. Something that, if any of the others caught it, perhaps wouldn't believe or think a trick of the light. For Louis, however, it was all too real. The moment the Essence caught his eye and blinked, he was ensnared and his sight instantly transported to the scene of a grisly murder but it was his hand doing the deed, bloody to the wrist and holding a short but effective blade. As soon as the knife was brought down again, the image changed and suddenly he would see from the eyes of a bartender in a 1920s speakeasy, taking in a sign from someone at the door just before they are blown open and gunfire and screams ring out. Again a shift, but this time the world is not ours; everything is shadowy and terrible shapes move just out of sight. Even though the head the eyes belong to move the things lurking in the corners do not become anymore clear.

All Seeing Eye

A normal peacock's feather seem to rest inside of this jar. But if you look hard enough, the eye at the end of the feather will blink! Not only does it blink, but it seem to move around sometimes as well, as if it really is looking at something. Out of curiosity, Kyou had once tapped into the eye, trying to glimpse what the eye is seeing. Or even if the eye works like an actual eye, having the capability of sight. To his horror, not only does the eye able to see, it could see far more than he could have expected. Things not of this world, spirits, the past from someone else's eyes, and even into other realms. The eye will show you what it sees, and not everything you see is something that you wanted to see. Having realized this, Kyou severed the link between him and the eye immediately. What else could the eye see is yet unknown, but Kyou has a feeling that it could see far more than what he experienced. Perhaps even into the future...

Because of this, it would be dangerous if the eye fell into the wrong hands.
