Eresin sat up at her question. Now there's something he asked his uncle when he was very little, and he just learned about it. His uncle explained to him about why only certain people can actually use magic, and he remembered the analogy very clearly. "Well, let's see..." He rubbed his chin trying to piece together the analogy once more. "My uncle explained to me once that everyone has different abilities." Eresin held up his jar of water, and retrieved a smaller one from his pack, and held that one in the other hand. "It's kind of like these jar's. Everyone's jars are differently sized. Most people's are very very small. So small that the amount of water it holds, or magic in this case, is not significant. For those who are like me, our jars are much larger and can hold much more water. But..." He closed the lid and held the larger jar with two hands. "Without proper training and focus, the jar remains closed to us. With the right training, though..." He opened the jar once more and looked through it to Talisia. "We have access to our magic. As for the reason I chose magic..." He closed the jar and put it away. "Well, it's like I said before, everyone is different. I'm physically weaker than most, and my strongest characteristic is my mind. I could be a tough guy and train to hold a giant sword, but that would probably be really inefficient, compared to a guy who's more.... built than I. Can you even imagine me holding a sword twice my size?" He laughed at the image and smiled at her. "So, that's why I am a mage... It mostly is because I was born from this way, with this ability."

Eresin couldn't help but wonder why she asked though. Did it matter that much? Maybe she was bothered by magic. It's true that it was unnatural, as he just explained, so it wasn't unreasonable that it would make some uncomfortable being around someone with those kinds of abilities. Well, since we're on the topic...

"Does it... make you uncomfortable...? That I'm a mage? I can understand, really. Magic is dangerous in the wrong hands..."

So magic could be dormant in everyone in a way. At least a little bit, right? Even she....Talisia closed her eyes briefly. She never could wield devastating magic, but she had shown signs before. There was a reason that animals flocked to her and that she could heal them. Even in the most heated of battles she had managed to stand when her wounds should have kept her down...

"So you wanted power?" Talisia did smile at the concept of him struggling to hold a huge sword, but the concept of power still made her expression falter. "Is it so important to be able to fight? Why not just take a peaceful path? Your mind could be used for other things, you know." She raised a hand towards the skies, "But I suppose if it's so natural to you then it must be hard to ignore. Like I'm pulled to beasts and can easily bond with them....I suppose I can understand that."

His questioned made her gaze widened, "No! Not you at all!" Flushing, Talisia sat up to glance over at him, "I mean....yes I don't like magic, but you're different." The girl bit the inside of her cheek thoughtfully, "You're so nice...I could never imagine you hurting me or anyone for that matter." Her gaze flickered towards her hands as she entwined her fingers, "I did have a past experience with darker magics before. My mother had friends who used magic and they would use it for torture. I saw it one day....Ciaran didn't know about it, but I followed him and mother once. She wanted to scare him, but I think the event traumatized me more than anything. The screams I heard..."

She shuddered as she pulled her legs up to her chest for comfort. This was the first time she had openly spoke about her mother and for once the girl looked truly vulnerable, "Our mother wasn't a kind woman, Eresin. We lived locked inside a dark home with closed windows. She had powers and powerful connections that allowed her to do as she pleased. No one could stop her....not even Ciaran. All he could do was try to protect me in whatever way he could." She sighed, "And I'm worried. What if that magic is inherited? You came from a decent family, but what about mine? My mother's darkness...if Ciaran inherited it as well....and if he truly is around here as a mage now, does that mean he has the same destructive magic?" She found herself rambling her thoughts out loud and with a light curse glanced back towards her companion.

So much for avoiding the topic of her twin being alive...

"Wait... You mean Ciaran really is alive? How did you find out? I mean I felt it somehow, but I wasn't for certain..." Eresin's head was spinning. There was so much he wanted to say but he didn't even know where to start. Magic. Her fear of magic. I have to comfort her somehow...

Eresin shook his head. He raised his hand and then put it down as a sort of way to collect his thoughts. "First of all, the ability to use magic is indeed inherited. However, magic is just a tool to use, just like any weapon. What you do with it defines what kind of person you are. If one goes around killing with a sword, that makes him a criminal. It isn't the swords fault... Same is said with magic. I am going to prove it to you too. I will become the best mage I can be, and with my magic, I will use it to protect you, Peco, and anyone else that I can. I want to show you that magic isn't to be feared, or hated. It's the bad people who use it..."

Eresin sighed. He just hoped that there was a way for him to prove it to her as fast as possible. He then inhaled and continued. "I'm sorry your mother was... cruel and irresponsible with her magic. I can't... guarantee that Ciaran will be more responsible with his, but one thing I do know is that he was definitely a good person. He did try to protect you after all..."

For all he was good for, Eresin had hoped he was right. However, Eresin did believe that even if Ciaran was up to no good, people can change. It would just take some effort from everyone around him and a lot of support.

Talisia sighed as she propped her head on her knees, "It's not been completely confirmed." She stated simply before continuing, "Yet, there were a pair of siblings from Sauti who had been rescued by an ice/shifter hybrid. He had my eyes they said and he also had saved them from bandits.....with magic." Her gaze studied the area around them as she spoke quietly. Almost as if wary of watching eyes, "Yes, he saved them but the means....even if they were bandits, I'm afraid of how he defeated them." Had he been cruel? Did he use his powers justly? "All his life he had played such wonderful music....he just wanted to be like father. To hear that he's alive, but is now a mage like mother startled me."

As he swore to protect her, Talisia felt her face flush. How was it that despite his silly antics that this boy was so confident in himself? For a second she felt as if she could truly believe in him. So far he had managed to keep up with her and had surprised her with his tenacity. What if he could learn magic and become strong enough to become a defender? Would it prove her fears wrong about how destructive magic was? At least a sword she could fight against where as a bolt of lightening or an exploding flame seemed rather unstoppable. Talisia sighed softly, "I suppose you have a point. I just don't want my twin to be that bad person." Her lashes fluttered down across her darkening gaze, "He risked so much to protect me, but I haven't seen him in years. I thought he was dead, Eresin. I watched as the blood poured out of his throat onto the snow that night....I'm worried. What if you're wrong and he's not the same Ciaran we knew?"

Pulling away from her legs, Talisia stretched out with a sigh. "I did decide that I would come here and find him so that I could find the answers. I want to trust in him, Eresin. I really do, but this life has jaded me somewhat. It's hard knowing who to trust or what to do anymore." She closed her eyes before glancing back up at the skies, "At least I'm not alone for this. Thank you, Eresin. You thank me a lot, but honestly I should be thanking you as well." She offered him a small smile before she laid back down on the bedroll, "I suppose tomorrow is a new day. No more worrying and let's just get some rest."

After a brief moment the girl whispered quietly into the night air, "Good night, Eresin." May he have good dreams and hopefully as they entered Jauhar the next day their answers would be waiting for them as well. She just hoped that her fears were wrong and that everything would be fine. Hadn't Eresin promised that as well? Perhaps just for once she would allow herself to trust in someone....even if he was a goof. The thought brought a small smile to her lips before she closed her eyes and allowed the wisps of sleep to take her away~

"Yes I suppose you're right. Just remember; we're here for each other as travel buddies. I've got your back if you've got mine." I'll... I'll always try my hardest... You deserve some good after all the bad it seems you've gone through.

Eresin laid back down and said "Good night, Talisia. Sleep well." Tomorrow they would begin travelling again, and hopefully their answers would come soon. He really hoped Ciaran was a good person, but even if he wasn't, he swore he would help make things right.

Eresin's eyes got heavy, and soon he found he couldn't keep them open. His mind slowed to a crawl, and eventually he drifted off to sleep.
