Of course Tourmaline's comment made him flush deeper and avert his gaze, sheepish smile playing on the corners of his lips. He dusted his fingers on his pants and stood just after she did, sweeping up the remains of their meal and depositing it in the grease stained paper bag.

"So," he hesitated, playing with the hem of his jacket, fingers sliding over gold buttons before he finally lifted his head and met her gaze. "Are these the rules I have to follow if I want to court you?" He tried to keep from going scarlet because he'd implied that he wanted to maybe date her and okay, courting wasn't the best way to phrase it but he was old school and well -

Aluminte was a writer, he had to add a tiny bit of flare.

Why did he always like those he met in the heat of battle or a skirmish. Hadn't things with Leora began just because they'd had an energy draining session gone wrong and a fight with a too-large man broken out?

It didn't matter. He got along well with Tourmaline and she was cute. It'd been a while but he was certain there was chemistry and he was sure he'd kick himself if he didn't take the chance. "So home-cooked is serious business, does that mean that it's a date-date if I get to cook?"

"Maybe." A light smirk was on her lips as she took a step closer to him, invading his personal space briefly as she peered up at him. "Except for I don't know if people really court each other anymore... Or, if they do, it involves drinks and dancing so close it's hard to tell where one person stops and another starts."

Tourmaline swayed in just a bit closer at that before stepping back, heart skipping like she was about to do something dangerous. "It's only a date-date if you want it to be one, Lieutenant. Make it through two more not-dates and then you can let me know if you want to take me on a date-date?"

Nothing serious. She was still offering him an escape plan; a chance to get away if he didn't like the way things were going, or if he decided he didn't like her when it all boiled down at the end. "Ready to go for a another ride? We should probably get you back home before you turn into a pumpkin or something."

"Depends on the person but," a slight pause as he held out his hand to her, palm up, "I don't think I'd mind courting you. Though I'll have to pass at the bump and grind dancing. It's not really my style. I'm more of a hand-holding, let me bring you flowers, open doors and pull out your chair for you kinda guy." Sometimes, Aluminite thought he might unintentionally be the type of guy who romanced girls the way great novels did.

Not the "I'm stalking you and possessive but you dig it" sort of romance but the soft "let me woo you with charming words and gestures that show I care" type.

"You told me two more not-dates before home-cooked meals are even an option on the table," he replied, brow arching as he tried to calm the pattering of his heart. "I don't mind waiting, but I also don't think I'm going to change my mind."

He could be endlessly patient if he thought it was worth it and, maybe just maybe, Tourmaline was worth it.

"But okay, if you want an excuse for me to hold you close we can go for another ride."

Hand-holding, flowers, opening doors-- Chairs. James, Aluminite, had just described the sort of dates that Prissy talked about when it came to boys. It all sounded nice, she supposed, but was it practical? Was it real?

Tourmaline eyed his hand with a trace of wariness. She wasn't intentionally playing hard to get, but she was so used to playing rough and tumble with bikes and fast cars that she didn't know if she knew how to take things soft and slow. She knew how to have fun, but did she know how to date someone?

Maybe life didn't always have to be so fleeting.

The younger Lieutenant slid her hand into his after a moment, tugging him lightly towards the rooftop's ledge. "Not afraid this time, are you?"

Tourmaline slid her hand into his after a moment of deliberation and well - she took his hand and he counted it as a victory. It meant that hand holding wasn't against the rules, so he slipped his fingers between hers and squeezed when she tugged him towards her. It was easy to fall in step beside her.

She wanted to lead and that was fine.

There was a nagging feeling in the back of the brunet's mind that told him that the girl wasn't used to being seriously flirted with or even possibly something that might move slow. That was fine with him, Aluminite had no qualms about going whatever pace she set.

If they did progress from friends into something more.

"Nah, I've got you. I trust you." It surprised him when the words tumbled out of his mouth but he meant them and that was what mattered.
