"I wish," Lana said with a laugh, "No, it just means 'precious child of the moon' or something like that." She blushed again and shook her head. She forgot her actual heritage sometimes for her habit of ignoring it so often.
The admission of hybridism, though, excited her. She knew well the difficulties of forging relationships with other Earthlings. Something Arron had said, though, had struck her. His father had some Alkidike in him. So, at the very least, the young man was a matter of thirds.
"Oh?! What else is he?" she asked. It might seem rude, but she would realize that too late.
Wynna climbed back onto Lana's arm and spread her wings between the two, so the girl gave a soft sound of annoyance and switched arms.

"Hes half ice half alk, mom is pure leaf and madly in love with dad, shes hyper hes usually not, they make a good pair." He smiled at the thought of them together, it still made him happy that they were a family again. "I have a few other hybrid friends, some of them have rainbow crystals, but my sister and I got the leaf crystals and dad's dark eyes. He's really tall, I hope I'm that tall when I grow up."

Lana's eyes widened and brightened and she clapped a hand to her chest. All she ever saw at home were Leaf folk. The hybrids she met from time to time were only usually a mix of two races. To meet someone who was three, that was special! It had happened entirely by chance, too!
"I'm part Ice!" she declared happily, forgetting for once to hide her identity for the comfort of others. What did she have to hide now? "I'm part Leaf too! I've never met another person who was more than two races!"

"You are?" he looked at her closer, "I thought that you were perhaps a shifter stuck in one phase..which could come from the hybridization..thats so cool! I love meeting other hybrids, I live with a pile of shifters at home." He thought for a moment, "Do you have any shifter? or is it the ice and leaf that make you so beau...different?" Had he really just said what he thought he was going to say? He hoped he hadn't offended her but well, he wasn't thinking straight. Too much excitement.

"I am!" she responded quickly. He lived with Shifters too? What a coincidence! Of course it was especially interesting that he was part Alkidike to Lana. She had only ever heard bad things about the Alkidike from the Shifter neighbors, and she had grown up during the war after all. There were exceptions to ever rule, though, weren't there?
Then she heard it. Was he about to say 'beautiful?' The girl's blush deepened and she put her hand over her lips. Oh my! She held back a laugh and averted her eyes. Oh my, oh my...
After a while, she finally answered Arron's question properly. "I, um. Hmm. I'm part Shifter, yes. My mother is Shifter and Leaf, and my father is Wind and Ice. It's not phasing, though. I can't phase. I'm an albino. I have no pigment, see?" She leaned in close to show Arron her clear crystals. She tossed her hair out of the way. "I don't know what I'd look like with color."

Complicated woman was complicated. "I wish ma had some shifter in her, then I might have gotten some blue crystals, and I would be like you, I think thats fantastic that you have so many, it makes you truly unique..even before the albinism." So much going on for one lovely lady. He peered at her crystals, "Well I'll be darned, I've never seen clear crystals before, kind of like frozen water arn't they?" He blinked his black eyes at her. "That is just so cool," he paused slightly, "I um, I bet you would be just as beautiful with color." His face was now on fire..his mouth had run off without him, but it was true....

Lana grinned. Nobody had ever told her that her hybridism made her unique before, at least not with a positive lilt in their tone. She ran her fingers over her rounded crystals and nodded. "Yeah. Like dewdrops."
She leaned back up then and listened to Arron stammer. She had not been expecting such a compliment though. He had avoided the word before (at least she thought he had), but this time he had just straight-out used it. This time she giggled and covered her mouth with both hands so suddenly that Wynna leaped up and took to the air. Her eyes didn't deviate from Arron's face, as bright pink and unsure as it was.
She liked this. She wanted to remember this moment.

Oh dear, she wasn't saying anything just staring at him with those pale eyes of hers, he was sure he had better look away from them least they capture him forever. Poor Wynna it seemed had had enough of their nonsense for the moment. Giggling was a good thing wasn't it? A small smile curved his mouth, then grew slowly until his eyes crinkled with its strength. She seemed to like him, him a scraggly boy from..well was he from Sauti? He was pretty sure he was born in Sauti therefore he must be from Sauti. He just didn't see himself as interesting enough for her, but there was no way he was going to ask how many boyfriends she had...since when did he care about boyfriends..his whole world seemed to be flipped on end....he was so ripping that page out of Sezarra's book, darn the consequences. "I uh, don't suppose you might want to meet again sometime?" He almost bit his tongue.

When Lana pulled her hands away from her mouth, she was still smiling broadly.
"Yes," she said, offering a little nod, "I think I'd like that very much. We could meet here?" It was pretty easy to find, what with the little brook and all. "When would you like to meet?"

He wanted to say, 'As soon as possible', but what came out was, "How about tommorrow for a picnic? I'll bring the stuff I like and you bring what you like and we can see how much matches up?" He smiled, delighted that she agreed, he had made a new friend and new friends were cause for celebrations..like picnics. Tonight he would redraw the nondwa on the next page of the journal and take the one with her and her pet in it. Sezarra...might not notice if he ripped really carefully. Then he could copy it and make one for Lana so she could have a picture with her of her and Wynna. "Say just before noon?"

Ooh, tomorrow! He sure was eager to see her again, wasn't he?
Some small part of Lana's mind was screaming at her. Strangers were not worth trusting, hybrids or not. He could be planning to hurt her, or worse. She worried that it might be right, but what harm was a picnic? She was in the area anyway and it would be reasonable for her to go off exploring again. She'd just bring one of Father's knives, that was all. She'd need it to cut fruit with anyway.
"That sounds perfect," she said, giving no sign of her internal conflict. She stood and smiled. "So tomorrow it is, then?"

"Yes, tomorrow it is. It was a pleasure to meet you Lana, and you Wynna, I best get home before my mother comes stomping out here saying I'm late for dinner, I have no doubt she would find me too." He crossed his eyes. Then he gathered all of his supplies up and waved to her as he set off down the trail. "See you!"

"The pleasure was all mine," Lana assured the boy. His crossed eyes made her smile. She stood to see him off, then waved and smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow!"
Lana watched the boy go and then did a small circle to look for Wynna. She found the fuzzy beast feeding in the lower branches of a flowering tree and reached up toward her. "Come on, you. We'd better get home as well. I don't think we'd better tell Mother about our new friend, hm?" Wynna spent a few more moments amongst the leaves and then fluttered down to Lana's shoulder, and the two were off.
