Naq snorted.

“It does if—”

Midway through the statement, however, Naqenni decided she didn’t care enough about it to argue. That was a waste of time, too, and patience for trivialities was not a strong suit of hers. Instead, she nocked her head, indicating that Akel ought to follow before starting into an easy sprint. She could have pushed faster, she supposed, but she did want the younger girl to be able to keep up, at least enough that she could show off a little—perhaps there was no harm in that. Since the girl was young, but did obviously have some training under her belt, it seemed worthwhile to start off with a simple exercise with the potential to be entertaining.

In this case, that involved moving to the edge of the camp, and a stretch of rocky, uneven earth.

Akeldama gave a grin when Naq went quiet. Apparently she didn't want to respond to that. Or she couldn't. Either way was fine with the little one. Then there was the tell tale nod that was meant to tell her to follow. So once the older Elaria started to sprint Akel did the same. Her little legs didn't carry her as fast but she tried to at least stay five steps behind Naqenni.

As they neared the edge of camp she gave a questioning look to Naq. Akel wasn't allowed to go beyond it. Not to say that she wouldn't break the rules a little, but she didn't want to be fooled into getting into trouble. "What are we doing?" Her words came in a puff as she seemed to be out of breath.

“Practicing footwork.” Arranging herself near the beginning of the stretch, Naq hopped up onto the upper slope of a rock and squinted out over the stretch of them. “Part of it’s having good footing, anywhere. If you’re not solid on the ground holding you up, its as dangerous as your enemy. So.”

She hopped from one, to the next, and then began a paced jog over the rocks, hop-skipping to balance speed and steadiness. Her own form on more complicated terrain was still in development, of course, but this particular exercise was one she’d worked through many times to the point of feeling instinctive and all but automatic.

Her word of advice to her sister: “Don’t fall.”

It could actually be fun, if one let it be.

She blinked and watched as Naq started going over the rocks. Akeldama understood then what she meant and nodded when the advice came soon after. Moving up onto the rock she waited until she was balanced then began to follow after Naqenni. About three rocks in she had to hold her arms out and wave them in order to prevent herself from falling.

When the small crisis was avoided she hopped to the next rock and grinned. Akel was having fun since it didn't feel like training to her at all. This was more like a game.

Naqenni hop-skipped - one stone to the next, to the next. She was quite practiced at it, and while - if asked - she would say that was due entirely to 'training' and her work to become more agile for whatever circumstances the future brought, in truth, she was a child still. Of the available ways to hone her balance, endurance, and strength, skipping about like a child from stone to stone and scurrying across the landscape was among the more pleasant and amusing things to do.

She could even, very privately to herself, imagine more obstacles, a greater adventure complicated by beasts on the left and enemies on the right, necessitating a darting duck sidelong and then a twist and rebound.

When she reached the end, she held her breath in her lungs, cheeks just warming with the exertion, though the gray tones of her skin hid it, and she flicked a look in the direction of her sister. "That, you could practice every day."
