More e.e. cummings. For a brief moment in the attack, Stormy couldn't help but smile a little to herself. Acid was par for the course to her; even had she been without a shield, the spray would have felt familiar. Still, with unthinking action she brought the broad side of the blade up to save her from the unpleasant bite as the acid followed after the strike. Thane again rattled something about fighting the weak. Not fighting, she had to correct him. Training. "I remember that one a little," Stormy said, flicking the liquid off her weapon even as it evaporated, just in case. Some charges liked to linger. "It's been a while." Her eyes tilted upward, trying to remember. The dracolich churned with impatience. "By the correct..." She thought a little more, tapping her glowing greatsword idly. "By the correct / fingers of April," she continued before giving the weapon a little flourish. The purple glow dimmed and then arced towards Harvard, cascading over his shield like a dismal waterfall of gloom, an odd stillness not unlike a crypt. Despite the aura, however, he could feel himself refreshed, as it he had taken a cold, clammy shower. "Resolved," Stormy finished with some satisfaction. He shivered, feeling the cool, strange calm wash over him. At the same time, he felt... not stronger, but better. If Harvard had to hazard a guess, he would've said Stormy had fixed up his shield. Interesting. He supposed that in a fight she knew she'd eventually win, drawing it out could be fun. Like a cat toying with a mouse who still holds a hope of escape. "Why did you do that?" At the same time, Miserere spoke again, their voice sounding oddly pleased. into a clutter of trite jewelsHe shook his head and focused on his target for the time being, thrusting past her huge sword towards her shoulder. She took the strike with a small grunt. "Because it was an exchange," Stormy answered, at first misunderstanding Harvard's meaning. In the time it took to force the rapier up and swing, less like a sword and more like a bat, to wind rather than to slice, clarity came.
"Oh. Because this is how you learn," she amended with a nod to herself. "And, um...Because it's practice for me, too." To know that she still had a charge that wouldn't hurt; that it wasn't always destruction.

He smiled. "Unfortunately, completionism is beyond Miserere." His weapon spoke in half-phrase, bits of lines of poetry, songs in Latin, nothing more. Harvard had gotten the feeling Miserere couldn't do more, and wondered if something was lost in the conversion. The conversion process was something he only knew vaguely about, and he made note to read more about it. Miserere stirred in his mind at the thought that something might have been lost. If the weapon had possessed the words to succinctly express it's doubt, Harvard knew it would have. Then Stormy was swinging her sword, effectively slicing through some of the shielding she had just restored. But because she had feed it fear, he wasn't knocked too off kilter by her blow. Nevertheless, his return hit landed wide, not scratching her at all. "It hardly seems like you need practice, Stormy. Though I suppose you're being a decent teacher." A note of teasing entered his voice. HP: 34/40 DMG: CHG: 1/3

"Maybe 'practice' isn't the right word. Just to remind myself it's okay to be soft, too." No matter what calcification had taken over, no matter what Thane said. "Here, it's easy to forget."
As if to follow that example, Stormy stopped her offense and backed off, her defense more relaxed. An invitation for Harvard.
"Miserere has good taste," she said with a small smile. "I have a book of e.e. cummings. Used to read it with Gale. My boyfriend," she explained.

"He has good taste." He paused for a moment, then tried to maneuver Miserere around her massive blade. "It's just as important to keep your soft spots as it is to harden other spots up." Become too hard and lose a sort of humanity, he supposed. He'd seen people leave others behind, their fear for themselves a kind of hardening. Others had closed themselves off to protect themselves from losing yet another friend. In short, the world was dangerous, but he wouldn't let that stop himself. HP: 34/40 DMG: 5 CHG: 2/3

Stormy hummed through her wince, overestimating her ability to deflect. Thane struck out to swipe at the needle before she began to back and to the side.
"Today, I'm trying to agree. Tomorrow, I might not bother." There was some of that old tiredness about her words that could have been felt even over the phone. "Tomorrow I might look at these calluses and scars and say there's nothing soft left to bother with. And maybe it won't be so bad to believe so. It's tiring to be human."

"It's tiring, but the important things are." He frowned, trying to concentrate, but missing Stormy by a mile. Harvard wasn't used to extended fighting - back in Delta is had been fight until he could flee. He stepped back a bit, an almost sheepish expression on his face at the miss. "But it's okay to not care for a day, or to stop caring about some things so you have enough left to care about others." He shrugged. It was about balance, and he imagined that fro Stormy, it might be a little harder. HP: 34/40 DMG: miss CHG: 2/3

"If I stop caring, it's a whole stop. Like trying to hold sand in open fingers, it just goes through once it starts. Trickles until there's very little left." Everything about her seemed tired now. "I've been there before. Gale almost left once." Maybe it would have only been physically. Maybe it would have been wholly. The uncertainty in it was what had scared her, more so than the act of leaving itself. Gale, sometimes so infuriatingly patient she wondered if she hadn't just dreamt him up, had wavered just the slightest.
Despite the mental exhaustion, however, it was still a trainee versus a hunter. When the sword glowed purple, it wasn't to repair Harvard's shield. Rather, when the blade (now dripping with a sulfurous, oily substance against its serrated teeth) caught against that barrier, a small explosion occurred, blasting them both with poisonous gas, liquid, and fire.
HP: 44 - (25/2=12.5=13) = 31 Attack: exactly 34 oh wow Charge: 3/3 -> 0/3
The Semblance of Unity i just realized harvard missing means she didn't actually get the 3rd charge but the damage is so perfect I'm gonna leave it since we're ending the fight next round anyway dlgksj

Stormy's attack hit him square in the chest. He flew back almost comically, the weird explosion causing him to land awkwardly on his a**. And with that, he could feel his shield dissipate, Miserere disappearing from his hand with a sound like metal on metal. For a moment, he just laid there, looking up at the sky. "That was harsh, Stormy. I yield, obviously." Slowly, he got back up to his feet, giving her a smile. "I hope you find your balance someday."
