"Sounds a bit like my life," said Auguste, with a touch of ruefulness. "Though not quite at the same time. But I did attend boarding school while I was in France, and I did have rather well off parents."

His expression faltered, a barely visible flicker at the mention of them before Auguste caught himself again, giving Chase a smile that was almost entirely genuine but not quite, slightly strained at the edges. He took a small breath and said, "I think it would be very nice if you continued with French, but I also think I'm a little biased on that."

His eyes were twinkling, Auguste taking a sip of his drink. He watched Chase move, trying to figure out what the wink meant, his cheeks heating a little. The coffee shop wasn't a place he was familiar with, and it was rather fascinating to watch everything that he did, Auguste not realizing that he was kind of staring until Chase came around the end of the counter to sit beside him.

Auguste blinked at him, then relaxed, his expression warm. "I like going places late," he said with a laugh. "There's something comforting about going to a diner or a cafe or a coffee shop when it's night time and there's not a whole lot of people around."

He gave a last sip of his drink, which was now empty, but lowered it slowly at the words Chase was saying, Auguste's brows rising. A look of pleasure was blossoming across his face, and he turned slightly away, his face flushed with an almost shy expression before he turned back to look at Chase.

"I'd like that," he said, "If you wouldn't mind the company, I'd like to maybe stop by again after rehearsal next week."

"The privileges and price of growing up with money," Chase mused with a slight shrug as he popped the lid from his cup to let the steam rise and the drink to cool a little faster. "I'll consider it, French that is," he told the boy, half smile curling on his lips as he glanced at the golden colored liquid in his cup. "It's been a long while," he admitted squinting when he reached for the tea bags to pull them out. It'd been at least a year since he stopped working for the technology tycoon. He didn't miss it.

"I'd need a good tutor to help me practice," his gaze shifted to Auguste, one brow arched in a challenge. "Probably take a lot of time, you heard how awful my accent's become." At least he was still good at rolling his rs.

When he deemed the tea cool enough to drink, he lifted it to his lips and sipped at it, a pleased hum leaving him when he scooted it towards Auguste. "Try this," he encouraged before quickly adding, "if you're not a germaphobe that is." He wasn't and it hadn't even considered that his companion might be. "It's great when you've got a sore throat or a cold."

It was one of his favorites, sweet but still tart.

"I could probably remember to be here, if you're stopping by," Chase said, letting gold eyes meet blue, implying that he didn't work that frequently but maybe he'd make an exception.

"If you learned French again, I can think of someone who'd be more than happy to speak it with you," said Auguste with a laugh, smiling at Chase. "I mean, I'd love to hear the other languages as well, but, well...I personally think French would be lovely."

He beamed at the other, and then flushed slightly, his eyes brightening. "Well," said Auguste, tapping a finger against his mostly empty cup, "My previous offer still stands. If you're willing, I wouldn't mind helping you out a little with things; and your accent isn't that bad," he added, his smile widening a fraction. "It just needs a little practice."

The offered drink was slightly surprising, Auguste's eyes flickering from that to Chase's face before he relaxed again, expression softening.

"I'm not," he reassured, before reaching out and accepting it, feeling the warmth seeping into his fingers from the cup. Auguste inhaled a breath of it, then lifted it tentatively to his lips, taking a small swallow of the steaming liquid.

When he handed back the drink, his eyes were glowing with pleasure.

"It's wonderful," he said, "You really have a talent for things like this, don't you?"

The insinuation of Chase's continued presence at the coffee shop made Auguste's flush deepen slightly, though he tried not to let it show. "Well, I have rehearsal every Tuesday and Thursday," he said, smiling. "If you don't mind me stopping in, I usually am in need of something sweet to drink on Tuesdays."

"I think I have someone in mind too," Chase replied, a slight twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Maybe I could exchange language lessons with them. German's quite lovely. Or Russian, might be lovely to hear a harsher language from their mouth. They're relatively soft." He might have looked Auguste up and down with a curious tilt of his head.

Auguste took the bait and formally offered his help and Chase let the slight twist of a smirk take over his mouth. "I wouldn't turn you down," he shrugged casually.

There was a beat before he said, seemingly shyly, "vous me aider à apprendre français?" The syllables of the words didn't fall off his tongue smoothly but it wasn't as terrible as it could have been.

"I spent a lot of time here, right after high school. When you have restless energy it's a fun way to direct the energy." A slight beat and a look of consideration. "If you were ever curious about coffee mechanics, I could teach you some. We're always welcome to some extra help." He'd been considering hiring new people, though Fiona had already called him and demanded he do her a favor.

He owed her, a lot, so of course he complied.

"Or you could just watch me after practice. That'd be fine too."

He couldn't help the little smile on his face, Chase's good nature infectious. Auguste let out a laugh, his cheeks flushed as he said, a little shyly, "I think they'd very much enjoy language lessons, especially if they were with Russian, it's a beautiful language."

The flush only deepened at the soft comment, Auguste's fingers wrapping more securely around his cup. He looked away, head tilted bashfully as a few stray strands of pale hair fell across his forehead, a warmth spreading throughout him. It was hard not to feel nice here, in this little coffee shop, with this nice boy talking to him, the atmosphere sweet and relaxed.

The French, however, made him lift his head, and Auguste's smile was bright. "Oui!" he said laughingly. "Je vais vous aider!"

He took a last sip of his own drink and set the empty cup back down on the counter, though he kept his hands there, one finger absently tapping against the side of it. His eyebrows had raised, and Auguste said, with a growing curiosity, "I think I wouldn't mind learning about that."

His smile grew a little shyer. "But I wouldn't mind just coming to say hello, either."

"Я люблю тебя , вернись," Chase mumbled, the syllables sliding of his mouth more smoothly than the French had. It'd been his second favorite language and one of the only ones he'd practiced after he stopped needing to do so for work. "я хочу выучить русский" He said after, knowing it would probably be lost on the white haired boy.

"Good, because I'd like pleasant company with language lessons." Easy shift in conversation, the transition between languages smoother than it'd been before. But Chase had always been good at switching tongues as needed.

"Whatever you want really, I won't complain either way." He was easy going, tried to be go with the flow, especially at work. Besides, if he had someone nice to look at that looked the way Auguste looked then he probably wouldn't care if he had to work. And the hiss and grind of coffee was something that was always soothing.

Back when he worked two jobs and spent too much time building muscle and training, the coffee shop was his favorite place to be. One of the few places he could unwind and focus on anything that wasn't his family, his place in the war, his duties. Now, it was a place that brought in a revenue, that he worked for when he needed to, slipping into the skin of the boy he used to be easily.

Now?

Well sometimes it reminded him that there was such a thing as a life outside of the Negaverse.

He did not understand a word of what Chase was saying, but it did not stop him from glowing with pleasure at the sound of it. The Russian language was, after all, extraordinarily beautiful, and when the last syllable fell from his throat, Auguste let out a small laugh of delight.

"That sounded lovely," he said honestly, "It's incredible to know that you know so many languages."

The prospect of returning to the little coffee shop not just to see Chase, but to learn more about languages and everything that he did was a wonderfully pleasant one. Auguste found the atmosphere very appealing - and the company even more so. Chase was friendly and open and easy to talk to, after all.

"I should probably get home," said Auguste now, a little reluctantly. "But if you don't mind me stopping by next Tuesday..?"

The last part was said a little hesitantly, but Auguste had every idea of dropping by his newfound place of interest. Tuesdays he got out at eight from rehearsal, which wasn't too late, and it would give him plenty of time - and reason - to have a drink and talk to Chase.

Chase could tell, by the way Auguste responded, that he did not understand a lick of what Chase had said. It was for the best, the older man supposed, as he thought about the other things he might say next time he demonstrated his multilingual talents. If the pale haired boy returned, it could be an amusing game for Chase to play.

How many things could he say in how many languages before Auguste caught him?

It was tempting, sorely so.

"Privileges of growing up rich I guess," Chase shrugged, lifting his drink and taking a large swallow, a slow slide of his tongue across his lips to catch any stray liquid. His relaxed demeanor seemed to shift when his companion mentioned that it was probably best if he headed home. It was not something he could dispute so Chase didn't even try, just nodded his head and slid off his stool. The lid with the teabags resting in it was collected and he looked at Auguste with contemplation, head tilted just so and brow wrinkled just barely.

"I don't see why I would," his reply came after a minute.

He found his eyes drawn to the movement of Chase's mouth, and Auguste turned his head away a little ungracefully, his hair falling about his slightly flushed cheeks. "I wish I'd grown up here instead of in France, I like it so much better here."

He slid reluctantly off of his stool after Chase, standing there somewhat awkwardly for a moment, Auguste reaching for his bag. he slid it over his shoulder and then lifted his eyes, his expression almost bashful, quiet in nature as he met the contemplative gaze.

But a smile spread across his face, slow and relaxed, a pleased look in Auguste's eyes.

"Okay," he said, and rocked back on his heels a little before taking a step away, hiking the bag up further. At the door, he turned back to Chase, his expression happy, and said, "I'll see you next Tuesday, then, Chase."

And he left, feeling quite a lot better than he had before.
