Her grin widening, she reached out to shake Kiki's hand - but at the last minute paused, retracting it. A suddenly started but thoughtful look crossed her face.
"Did I -?" She stared at her hand for a second, flexing her fingers. Worrying at her bottom lip with her teeth. Then she nodded to herself, grabbed Kiki's hand, and gave it a firm shake. Perhaps too firm. No. Definitely.
"We do indeed! Now, where did you want me to start?"

Kiki blinked, taken aback as the hand was gone before she knew it. The tall bean pole of a woman was confusing. Perhaps seeking her help was not the best of decisions. But now it was too late. The barbarian twig of a girl had her hand in full grasp, much to Kiki's obvious distaste. " Ow." She growled with a wince, taking her hand back as soon as she could to shake off the possible broken bones. "Hrm.." She looked down at her plans with some thought. "Not the sewing. Much too detailed. I have a very specific plan for the pillowed part of the headboard." She scanned the wood planks laid out, the odds and ends she'd planned to model together somehow to create the mantle piece of the board. "Could you paint all the wood with the silver paint?"

"Wouldn't want to mess that up." Hattie continued to keep her voice light and good-natured. It was more fun that way. Like Kiki, her gaze found and settled on the planks in question, and she found herself nodding along. Painting was easy. Messy, but easy.
"Yeah, sure, but if I'm painting, I'm going to change." Like hell she was getting silver paint on her beloved octopus tank top. Like. Hell. On her way across the room to her dorms, she gave Kiki a pat on the head, because she was such a good girl. "I'll be right back!" she promised, and ultimately delivered.
She returned as promptly as she could, exchanging her previous outfit for an unflattering oversized t-shirt and board shorts that were definitely not hers held up by a belt she had probably adopted from someone. Gone were her converse and rainbow socks, her octopus jewelry, and her beloved headband. Barefoot and lacking decoration was clearly the way to go. Her red hair was pulled up into a messy bun, keeping as many curls as possible out of the way for the task at hand.
Sitting herself down beside one of the planks and the paint, she stared at the material. Then she stared at Kiki. A mischievous look flashed in her blue eyes, and soon enough she was grinning. She was trying very hard not to, of course.
"How do I do this?" She asked as innocently as possible, batting her eyes at Kiki and hoping for her expert help.

Kiki was pretty sure she greatly disliked this woman. A lot. She treated the princess like a little kid. A stupid little kid. So much so, that Kiki was starting to see that recruiting her for this task had been a grave mistake. Clearly the woman thought this was a <******** game. Kiki sat back down, tucking her legs under her gown as she returned to her sewing, quietly contemplating her life choices. And then Hattie returned, looking more like the scrubby peasant Kiki thought her to be. And then... she did the thing."Ugh!" Kiki announced, flopping her sewing down on her lap. "Are you completely and utterly that stupid, or are you jesting me for fun?" She narrowed her gaze. "Because wither way, your lack of help in this task is slowly eating away at your chances for pizza."

The grin came back full force, and she couldn't get it to go away. This was fun, big fun, and Kiki exploding at her was easily the highlight of her last hour. Especially with the dramatic throw of her sewing. It was cartoon-quality upset.
"So what you're saying is, the better job I do, the better pizza I get?"

"Yes, genius." She huffed. "If you help me make this headboard look like it was crafted by the the Gods themselves, I'll buy you the highest quality pizza known to mankind."

Kiki's hands gripped tightly at her fabric, her little face fuming in a burning fury of red. "Yes. I'll go and buy it and bring it back with my ROYAL hands!" A princess should not have to barter with such filth!!!

Kiki was in an absolute rage, and it was fantastic.
"Perfect!" Harley's wicked grin remained, but she stood up and walked away again, with a little promise to be back. When she did, only a few minutes later, she had some sandpaper in her now suddenly gloved hands.
Then she sat down and got to work sanding out the imperfections in the wood.

Kiki was so mad she almost forgot to continue sewing. Her whole body felt as if it would simply explode. Some people had all the nerve. This Hattie person had taken advantage of her kindly princess heart! She started to sew again, occasionally glaring up from under her narrow brows at Hattie masterfully sanding down the woodwork. Looks like someone was going to get a special message written in Hot Sauce across her damned pizza.

Despite focusing on her work, Hattie couldn't resist grinning when she remembered the look on Kiki's face. The rage on that tiny cherub face. Priceless. Every now and then she stole a glance up and saw the lingering remnants of it, which only made her day even brighter. This was fun. And worth it. Though she was pretty sure Kiki would be spitting in her pizza or something later.
Worth it.
After a while, she got so wrapped up in her work sanding that she didn't notice the time ticking by. Which meant it was time to break the silence.
"So how's the friendship application box going for ya?"

A long and heavy sigh followed the break in silence. It was not a happy sigh. "It does it's job." She said in a clipped tone. It was, after all, fashioned from a trash can. Which illustrated perfectly how she regarded any interest in friendship.

"Yes, I see that. What with all your friends helping out today." She gestured around them, to nobody, because it was only the two of them here. Her sanding was done for now, as she couldn't feel any more impurities, and she started to brush away all the dust that had formed.

"Friends are a nuisance I simple don't require. Nor want." She said with disinterest. "My own company is far more enjoyable." People would get in the way of the things she enjoyed. They'd ruin her perfect way of doing things.

"You're okay with that, really?" Harley paused her work, looking at Kiki with surprise. "How do you survive this godforsaken island?"
