Forgiveness? How could he forget something so traumatizing that it lingered deeply in remise by a thorn. Perhaps she had not heard the final account which in mindset was the hardest as it trickled in much like the tingle where the walker had marked him for life. A life as valuable and kind was taken that day in revenge that seethed laughter intertwined with defiance. He'd never forget those words she uttered to him in the moments her soul still breathed in this realm. His father's eyes in terror as Isolda bravely pushed her son out of the way giving her own life in return. He didn't respond to Dheneb as he wanted to regarding to finish his tale before her advice.
"The pain and regret I feel wasn't because my father's infidelity" he began with a deep sigh, "It was my mother's life she gave to protect me".
The stallion looked toward his companion again eyes darkening in sadness. "I didn't know why at the time but I skidded to a stop my chest heaving in exhaustion and fear. Turning around I began turning back praying my senses tricked me as my leg burned from the wound that forever scars me. When I started to return I heard a scream which I instantly recognized. I ran so fast I didn't care if my life mattered or not. When I rounded the bushes I saw her standing there facing the nightmare that threatened my life. Her coat glistened like ice under that full moon as her eyes flickered with intensity". He spoke lower now even though his heart was racing seeing an angel and a demon standing under the light's gaze above. "She was already bleeding from a prior attack still protecting father that stood helpless behind her with a broken shoulder. I didn't think nor did I care what happened this very night. The Walker, a seductress was poised ready to land the killing blow daring to show father she disliked interruptions. Then I ran as fast as I could slamming into that Walker with the energy I had left within me. It wasn't much but I knocked her almost off her feet as the beast righted her stance. That's when everything grew dark..."
His eyes clouded with tears that were warm sliding down his handsome face.
"I couldn't remember standing there why I charged that beast. All I know is that sudden impulse created a vortex that made the cause and effect of the night. The Walker came at me with fangs bared hissing how my flesh would appease her anger. I couldn't move nor could I think what was happening only seeing those hateful eyes as she lunged toward me in the final killing blow. I remember thinking to myself this was my fault before something pushed me out of the way causing my legs to buckle as I rolled upon the ground. Then the scream again as my senses came to adjusting to the scene in front of me".
His form shuddered now remembering that fateful moment his mother had pushed him out of the way giving her life for him.
"She took my place" he replied, "My mother who many moons protected us from nightmares finally gave her life for me. I remember seeing her throat glistening white bleed red with blood as the Walker took her down in a throat hold that caused her life to slowly slip away. I remember her gurgling in blood as it ran out her mouth looking at me with those soft eyes when she spoke".
"My dearest Celenduin I love you and your sisters with all my heart. Even in the passing of this life I will always be with you remember that. Take... your sisters far away from this place and keep them safe. Promise me Celenduin...."
"I nodded not thinking at that moment what everything meant. Then she passed on and my mind went blank. I honestly don't know how I got back up and found my sisters in that nightmare that brought forth a storm.. I just know I did". He looked to Dheneb with eyes that showed pain, "I can't forgive myself for breaking her promise. I just don't know how to face them knowing I'm the reason we lost Isolda". wc: 717

This changed some things only slightly she thought as she pondered what to say next. With compassion showing in her face, the wings on her head fluttered as she turned to face him further. "Celenduin, I'm sure your mother wouldn't want you to keep blaming yourself. Some times," she paused for a small moment. "Sometimes parents will make the self sacrifice not because they want their children to blame themselves forever. But because they want you to live."
She took a deep breath and let it out calmly. It wasn't because she was tiring of the situation, but because she wanted to give him a different perspective. "As for your promise," She paused yet again. "You kept them safe did you not? The Mare of death didn't find them am I correct? What ever you might have done, even if you did abandon them for a time; I'm sure your mother would be more happy to know that you're returning to your siblings."
She hoped her words would comfort him if only a little. "Did you believe that when you left them they'd be safer without you? " She shook her head. "The answer really doesn't matter, your mother loved you and your sisters. You kept them safe did you not? Even if you believed they were safer without you. That is what matters and soon you will be reunited. The ancestors and spirits work in mysterious ways.. not everything is within out control and to think that we could have changed it if things had gone differently is foolish. Use this new beginning to make good on your promise if you feel as though you've reneged on your promise so far.."

A soft yawn mingled within a snore radiated from the little avian as her eyes fluttered open. Pulling herself up from the ground she sneezed. Momentarily, her thoughts were a blur drifting with the stars that glittered in her tiny eyes. Then she remembered CelendĂșin and that noisy bird that had hurt her head so. Noting there was a leaf draped over her she smiled in contentment in thanks her idle ways ran her into the lost stallion. Blinking she looked over a him standing there pouring his heart out to a complete stranger. Her little heart beat furiously in proudness of his bravery to the mare that listened quietly in his story. Everything was calm as it should be but wait! Looking around swiveling her head she wondered where that handsome cranky bird had trilled off to to grump at something. Leaning her head back she looked upwards towards the stars noting him sitting there silently watching over her. A foolish giddy moment swept over her as the leaf fell backwards to the ground. This cranky bird was genuinely worried about her, "How long have you been up there?" she asked with another deep yet whistled filled yawn. Her real question silently loomed of how long she had been dead to the world. He pondered deeply letting Dheneb's words fil his head with promise and lingering positive light. "The pain is so great to bear as a child who felt like he let everyone down. It's like a lingering parasite that won't detach from your thoughts letting you move on. I chose to tell you in hopes that guilt and failure would fade away. It's much better to speak upon a stranger's behalf then those you've known since foal hood. It will take time but I'll face them. In ten years passing it's been way too long already."
He looked over at Isabeau as she stirred knowing her yammerings would begin once again. In these times though of self-doubt she was a confidant mingled in a lyrical friend.
Turning back to Dheneb he paused glancing upward to the twinkling orbs watching down over him, "They are indeed well. I've heard rumors they've gathered once more stepping past the storm that caused them to forget their true selves. If anything Celendria my dear sister stepping into Elderhood never forgot. She's waited every year upon that ridge where we all made that promise. Somehow I know she remembers everything and yet I've feared the day expressing my guilt to her". he spoke softly deep yet understanding as he turned back to Dheneb, "Your words are a beacon to me in the bleakest of a storm. I believe our Mother still walks those hills in spirit watching over her children. Father though he never returned back to the ridge they all wait upon. His guilt made him forget who he truly was and it devoured him since. From the day he took off from that moment in time he vanished without a trace. Yet, I know he's out there feeling worse than I. To heal is to live , to fester is to die".
His words were strong yet those pangs of guilt still nipped anonymously within. How would Frosta and Avalon take to the news? CelendĂșin was overjoyed the herd regained its stability even in the sweltering summers sent them different ways. It was always the winters though that kept the herd strong. A family etched in ice and snow forever standing tall down in the valley. Perhaps, even if memories were faint that ridge called to Celendria and his siblings. Even though the elder had traveled far into the mountains she always returned as the winters had.
He stretched looking upward at the moon growing fainter as the sun drew its first light over the ridge. Soon it would be time to depart as he headed back toward the valley he called home. "I will keep to this promise that you've helped me soak inward. I will face them and do what I must".
Nodding he stepped past her walking toward his companion then paused, "Dheneb. We will part ways this morning. But, I think we will meet again either under the rays of the sun or illumination of the moon. This meeting wasn't in farce lying in a deeper reason than even I understand. Only, this next meeting I feel our interaction will be geared toward your quest. When that moment crosses our paths I want you to know I will do everything in my power to help you as you have I".
He then bowed his head to her then continued walking toward Isabeau.

He'd sat silently in his guarding vigil as the others spoke heeping both an eye on his mistress and the female bird below. As she stirred, he stiffled his own yawns and sleepily shrugged. "Most the night, I've been keeping an eye out so that a fox didn't make a meal of you as you whistled through the night." He looked from Isabeau to the sky as streaks of pink started to dawn the sky above. "You slept well I hope?" He asked as he returned his gaze to her, groggily fighting his own urge to doze off.She could see how as a child one could be simply overwhelmed by the entire situation. Even as an adult it'd be a bitter pill to swallow. The first step was some times just to simply face it with an unbiased view. "I wish you the best of luck, CelendĂșin. Spirits know you'll need all the guidance in a time like this. This is a task I do not envy in the least. However, I am certain that all will work out for the better in the end."
It wasn't going to be an easy task in the least. It was likely going to take he and his siblings a good while before all would be right. The healing process was just beginning but some wounds take a long time to do so. Hopefully this would heal smoothly without too many complications for the stallion. He seemed so very full of the regret of his actions though some how more at peace with things since their conversation had first begun. She cast a look to her own companion who looked like he'd started to doze off on the branch above the other bird before she started to rouse. Now he just seemed as though he were fighting the urge to sleep all the way. No doubt when the two they'd been occupied left she'd be left with his lectures. Not like it wouldn't be hypocritical of the bird but she was fairly used to his lectures of talking to strangers. Without strangers how could one gain friends if they didn't occasionally side line the suspicions?
With the first glow of morning creeping into the sky, she'd not realized just how late it had gotten already until now. "I'm glad to have been of some help to you. They'll come around. It may take some time, but all should work out in the end." She wanted to keep the positive thinking going, especially after hearing the task he had.
She looked to where Stardust had kept his vigil once more and couldn't agree more with her companion. It was becoming bed time for the both of them. Soon they'd need to hunker down and find a nice, safe, place to bed down and rest until they were ready to start the rest of the day. Casting her gaze back at the stallion, she offered another smile. "I would be glad for the help in the future. For now, go with speed and good fortune. May your travel be safe and your reunion a happy one."
She offered him a friendly smile once more. "I'll be happy to meet again some time. With any luck you'll have good news or your trial and I, with any luck, will have a lead of my brothers." She had to hope that her siblings were making their way to her, to home. With every passing day she held onto the flickering hope that she'd find the boys once again their trifecta of old.

Isabeau still yawned though her eyes were opening wider now that the sun was beginning to rise. She hadn't believed her companion once about her snoring thinking to was something the stallion had created in his own mind. Now that this grumpy old bird made a statement of truth she knew Celenduin was right in his accusations of her snoring. Quickly she took to grooming her feathers not letting Stardust see her blush. Snoring was an embarrassing thing you didn't realize till another literally told you about it. Fixing her feathers a bit more she returned her gaze to him, "Didn't hear a thing honestly" she chirped happily, "Though I do appreciate you looking out for me. I tend to sleep when Celenduin flies in the evening since I'm not a nighttime sort".
Her head turned noticing Celenduin heading her way, "Oh... I guess I have been sleeping a while". At that moment she wished circumstances would play out longer but her companion had his agenda merged into a promise. Her time with stardust would have to be cut short though deep inside her little heart wanted to stay with him more. Sighing she looked back at the blue male, "Perhaps you need rest yourself if you stayed up all night watching over me" her voice trailed off as her head turned away from him not showing the disappointment of staying longer.
The morning was making an appearance quickly creating a sorrowful personality of a once lively beautiful songbird. The stallion regretted tearing her away but he had another two night's passing before he reached his sisters upon his promise. Seemingly, Celenduin wanted to stop time to help Dheneb find her quest within the world. He longed to let his companion stay for it seemed that grumpy noisy bird took a liking to the feisty lyrical female.
"Isabeau" he spoke her name quietly as he walked toward her lowing his neck, "We'll come back again I promise you as I promised Dheneb. I need to resume my quest and fulfil this promise to myself and my siblings." His voice showed pain for it was the first time he noted Isabeau showed genuine interest in a male similar to herself. Leaning his neck down his nuzzled the little bird, "Come now we must be on our way".
The songbird sighed again beginning to walk toward his mane where she would fall into slumber once more. Then she paused looking back to stardust with a smile out lifting her wings to fly up to the branch. When she landed gripping the branch fully she looked at the male bird, "We'll run into each other again I'm sure". Her little heart beat furiously in her chest leaning in to peck him on his cheek "Thank you.... again", then she hurriedly flew back to Celenduin crawling up in his mane without another word.
The stallion watched Isabeau with a flick of his ears her little display quite amusing for such a sad time. He could sense her not wanting to depart despite the first meeting of two heated songbirds protecting their companions from the evil of strangers. The thought thoroughly amused him how silly they both acted now to be so tied into one another the next morning. Usually, she'd be talking his head off after a night of rest, but, today she was quiet not releasing a peep to the unsuspecting world. Turning her faced Dheneb once more with a chuckle, 'It appears my little companion may have fallen for your companion. Once I have settled my ties I will return to help you as well. I'm sure Isabeau would like that".
With a nod as he dipped his head to the lovely flutter spreading his wings, "Fare thee well Dheneb and Stardust. I wish you both well in your journey till we reunite again." Noting Isabeau was unusually quiet he began a slow trot into a run outstretching his wings to the wind. Then he powered himself up into the air to meet the clouds once more. It had been an interesting night indeed filled with suspense and sorrow but there was also a kinship among all of them he'd not soon forget even in his future affairs of a promise needing to be kept.
As he climbed higher he felt a little stir among his neck wondering if he was peering out trying to see the feisty blue male again. Knowing Isabeau his inkling was probably correct with how she pecking him on the cheek without warning. They were probably too high within the clouds for her to even see him in the tree below. He often pondered why she joined him knowing full well he was a winter stallion much like his siblings. Born of the frost, ice, and snow a little bird like her couldn't handle the frigid temperatures. Yet time and time again she proved cold wasn't deterring her from seeing his reunion with his siblings.
"We'll come back Isabeau. promise this to you" he spoke knowing she could hear him. Fate was indeed a powerful entity that showed blessing or demise. Whichever the path he flew toward he'd face it with strength and nurture his sisters as family protected one another even in the bleakest times.

Inwardly he chuckled seeing her fight to regain her composure. He'd been blunt and to he point he knew. Sugaring things wasn't his forte in much of anything truly. "You may have had deaf ears last night but I dare say, the wood could have echoed with the whistles." Nonchalantly, he turned his head to readjust some of his own feathers before stretching his wings out and giving them a flap to ward off any stiffness that might have been growing in them.
"Yes, a long while indeed." He chirped out. "The stars no longer twinkle above and the pinking sky ushers in the new dawn." He was tired, his words starting to drift in their volume from audible to nothing more than a whisper. Teetering on his branch, he looked to Dheneb and nodded. Soon the deep blue mare would be nestling down in a hidden thicket and resting up for the next night. It might seem strange to others, but she was often more active in the evening and night . It was the life he'd always known with her and one he cherished. Their own little happy solitude, though he also knew she stood a better chance at finding her family when she stuck to the night. Turning his attention back to the pale blue female, he gave a small nod. "I am often use to staying long hours in the night with Dheneb. This is more like my usual bed time." It was rather amusing to see her concern over him. From mortal enemies at first to a more cordial sort of conversation, how strangely things had changed in the night. She was patiently waiting for her companion to finish his conversation. It wasn't every night that Stardust took a liking to some one other than herself. Though she knew that both stallion and bird were soon to depart, she couldn't bring herself to disrupt this small window of normalcy he was showing. She'd often wondered if maybe being isolated with her for so long had hindered his own true nature. He'd often been a very happy and talkative companion when they were alone. She'd wagered his own protectiveness had to have stemmed from something like their bond and close relationship. Still, she knew they'd soon have to part company with the new acquaintances they'd made. He had his own quest, and she hers. in the end they'd have to wait to meet again when the fates allowed a more opportune time to sit and visit.
The wings on her head fluttered and wiggled about in a silent signal to her companion. He was frowning at her she could tell. He really was interested in getting to know the little female more. "We'll see them again Star... don't worry. " She said, offering him a cheerful smile. "We need to let them continue their business for the time though." She was trying to reassure her little friend, though a part of her would have liked to have gone with them to offer her support. Still, she knew it wasn't her place to do so. His path was something he needed to do alone. Her search for her brothers was better served alone till she knew more about this new land any ways. For all she knew, they were wandering around in some forgotten corner of these new lands looking for her. Staying in one location would make it easier for them to find her, unless they too were sitting and waiting for her. It was a serious dilemma. Did she move and look for them or wait for them to find her? The risk was that if she moved she'd miss them and if she stayed put, she may never find them.
The thought alone sent her mind into a whirl and was causing her head to throb. Closing her eyes for a moment, she shut out the morning light before looking at the birds once again. A small smirk formed on her maw as Isabeau pecked Stardust on the cheek. It was a sweet sight and one she knew would embarrass the older bird off his game. He hadn't had time to say anything when she flew up and pecked him on the cheek. Looking utterly bewildered, bashful, and at a loss for words, he settled for a small smile. Taking wing, he flew over head passing the two as he made his way back to his companion. "We'll meet again." He chirped loudly and happily his little chest puffed up.Dheneb chuckled at The display stardust made before he lit on her back and took to preening himself. Looking to Celenduin, she chuckled. "It would appear so." She was rather amused with how swiftly taken with each other they seemed to be. From squabbling to all niceties. It was an interesting change. "I'm sure Star would like that too. Hopefully we won't be too far away from here and easier to find. I've been debating the best course of action. To stay idle makes one easier to find.. but to search makes the lost individuals easier to find." She was lost in thought for a moment longer.
She nearly missed the farewell as she dwelled upon her thoughts. Snapping to, she nodded. Fare well Celenduin, Isabeau. Until we meet again travel safe. She knew Stardust would likely have something to about the night before once his head was done reeling from the events earlier. Till he came through, she was content to settle into the silence and find a suitable place to nestle down for the day. She pushed through the bushes and limbs taking care not to snag her wings as she moved deeper into the tree line. It was a pleasant surprise when Stardust just nestled into her mane and started to doze. his heavy breathing though soft, was still audible to her own ears. The poor bird certainly was tuckered out.~finished~
