She was remembering how every day with her parents seemed to end on a ‘satisfying epilogue’ when they still ran the store rather than Jessie, back when she was still in school. Yes there were days that were hard but her parents liked to find the silver lining in everything, Jessie wasn’t as good at it as they were. Instead she saw fighters make it home at night, surviving another battle. She saw the happiness in a young child’s face as they found a book that sparked their imagination. She also had seen the sadness… the darkness that lurked in the shadows.
There were those that didn’t make it home. Those that were never actually found… or worse, succumbed to the darkness. “‘Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.’”
