The going was treacherous going through the narrow path along the river and she had to pause several times to catch her breath. She had over-exerted herself, she knew. Sweat dripped down her forehead and she strained, but she took it all in stride. She didn't complain once, but kept moving as well as she could, motivating herself by thinking of the bed they had erected near the entrance to the vale. She just had to reach it, then she could rest and take her medicine. She hoped she hadn't undone any of the work her healers had done.
By the time they finally reached home she collapsed, all thoughts flying from her mind as she caught her breath and relaxed. She had closed her eyes for several minutes, but when she opened them Tyrin was offering her a pungent tea. It smelled familiar, though she couldn't place where she had had it before. She smiled weakly and sampled it, finding it barely palatable. Still, it revived her almost immediately so she drank it down. She finally finished it and took a deep breath, feeling much better. "I am improved greatly, my thanks Tyrin. Your healing won't be necessary. I just need rest." Even her voice sounded weak. She truly had overdone it today.
He marveled at the hidden path. They had been standing right in front of the entrance the entire time, and even as they approached it he couldn't see it. It was brilliantly disguised as sheer, impenetrable rock. As they slipped through it and traveled through the rough terrain there wasn't much time for conversation. He had nearly the entire long trek to think, and with each passing step forward he felt more resolve in his decision. These were good soquili. He could feel it. He also could almost feel how exhausted Abigail was. She had truly taken a risk in coming out to meet them, sacrificing her health and comfort to welcome Tyrin and his son personally. He was touched. He mentally prepared the tea as they walked, going over the inventory of herbs he carried with him in his head. Yes, he could make what he needed. Once they broke through the gloom of the path and walked into the light of the vale he blinked back the sun and got to work immediately. He would have time to explore and admire their home son enough. Right now, their new Alpha needed them.
As they came through and settled Abigail into her bed Vira stood back and watched their new charges. Abigail was accepting of nearly everyone, but Vira knew part of the reason she did was a fear of another attack. She wanted the numbers up and alliances to other herds made. As such, and as Second in Command, Vira took it upon himself to screen newcomers himself. He would personally observe the two for the foreseeable future, accompanying them on their journey to find their son himself. Baring any unforeseen circumstance, of course. He nodded to himself as the father tended Abigail, only slightly apprehensive in allowing a stranger to feed his surrogate mother. Still, there were herb specialists in the herd who had taught him a thing or two, and he recognized the tea as medicinal. As Tyrin and Abigail had their tea party Vira turned to Darkheart. "Are you anxious to find your brother? Do you have any leads on his whereabouts?"

Glancing over towards the white stallion he shook his head. "It's been a very long time since I've seen him. It would be a shot in the dark if I were to guess where he was." He said looking at the ground for a moment. When was the last time he had seen him? It had been a very long time, that much was clear to him. "I a very anxious to find him though, it will be nice to see him again." He wondered why he had gone away to begin with. 'Probably because you're so strange.' The voice taunted. Dark grumbled to himself and masked it with a frown and a sigh. "How far are we from your herd?"

She breathed deeply, enjoying the scents and sounds of the herdlands as the tea took hold and did its work inside her. She loved everything about her home. The grass was soft, the air was pure, and the entire valley had the serene peacefulness of an area untouched by the outside world. For not the first time she felt overwhelmingly thankful that they had found such a safe haven in this world full of darkness. The Spirits must have guided them to this place she felt, helping them to rebuild after their tragedy. She took another long dram of Tyrin's concoction, savoring the bittersweet flavor rolling over her tongue. She felt warmed throughout her body, energy restored as the medicinal tea flowed down her throat. She had lost a lot of blood in that kalona attack, among other grievous injuries internal and external which plagued her. She was still bruised all over, though her healers worked on her daily in an attempt to bring her back up to full health. Her thoughts drifted back to that encounter once again, concern and worry crossing her face briefly before she tramped it down, making her face a mask of calm serenity once more. She need not worry the newcomers yet with her hatred of her enemy. Wretch was not nearly the sort of threat a skinwalker might be, and as such could be a little more easily be dismissed. As far as she knew it was the one kalona with a grudge and nothing more and she would be more careful when travelling alone from now on.
She stretched, still lying down, testing her muscles and strength. She felt already much renewed and smiled happily. She hated being out of commission or weak in any way. There was too much to do, so much that needed to be put into place. It was easy to feel safe in their secluded valley, but they were still vulnerable in some places and their numbers were too few to fully defend their realm if it came to it. She wanted to be healed as soon as possible so she could move forward with her other plans. "That was a wonderful concoction Tyrin. You have marvelous skills we can certainly put to use." Particularly if it came to war, she thought bitterly but did not say. "I know you are anxious to find your son, and perhaps a travelling healer could be your place. That would certainly give you the opportunity to locate your son and bring him here, as well as recruit others to the herd who may be interested while also spreading goodwill from the Kateri to others." Cultivating relations with other herds was particularly important to the mare.
He watched as her face relaxed with the elixir, feeling the pleasure of successful healing that always made him feel triumphant. He had no small amount of pride in his work and was always satisfied at successfully trouncing a malady. She clearly had other injuries at work, to which he attributed the momentary look of pain or worry that crossed her face, but at least he was able to lift her spirit and give her more energy. She seemed to come back to life before his eyes and he was glad she felt well enough to continue talking. He considered her words, nodding along. Yes, her proposal seemed to work well for his desires. "I would be happy to spread the word of the Kateri. I'm sure there is some form of training for this job, but I am happy to learn." He smiled at her warmly. He felt hopeful for the first time in months. He could find his wayward son, Dark Heart could be safe in a home of his own and perhaps even treated. Everything will work out to their mutual benefit. He was happy to do whatever the mare asked of him. "When can I start?"
"I can sympathize with wanting to find your family," he said, thinking about the many years he had searched for Abigail and her band of remnants of their old herd. There were so many long nights when he had wanted to give up hope and stop believing there were others. It had been a long and lonely journey, even with his five brothers in tow. They might have been together, but they were miles apart emotionally as they each tried to deal with the trauma they had suffered. Vira would have given anything to have had a parent to help him through things, but he and his brothers were robbed of that. Still, he couldn't envy Dark Heart. He thought about what Dark Heart must be going through, losing his brother and how horrible that must feel. How would Vira react if he was separated from one of his brothers? He shook his head, not wanting those thoughts to take hold. They were everything to him and he couldn't lose them. He felt pangs of sympathy for the stallion before him, hoping fiercely that the brother would be found. At least there was still a good chance at finding him alive, barring any unforeseen circumstances. "I don't know what I would do if I couldn't find one of my brothers. This must be an awful time for you," he said gently, trying to comfort the stallion. This was probably a tough transition for him, finding a new home yet still missing a member of the family. Vira truly felt for him.
"Oh where are our manners?" He exclaimed at Dark Heart's question. "This IS the Kateri herdlands! We passed through that passage there and into the open area of the valley. It's only accessible through that path and unless you know where it is and what turns to take, you won't find it. Most of us don't hang out here in the entryway though," he stole a glance at the recovering Abigail, pleased to see her improving quickly. "And I think at this time of day everyone is busy at their tasks. Would you like a tour?" Abigail was already rising, restored in her energy. He moved as if to help her, but stopped when he saw Tyrin already leaning into her to help her. "We can do a lap around the valley and maybe introduce you to the others if they're around." He wasn't sure who might be about, but was more than willing to make the introductions. He glanced at Abigail again, wondering what the odds were on convincing her to go rest in her bed. He suspected they weren't good, but he would try to convince her.

Listening to the stallion as he spoke he gave him a soft smile. "I would not wish it upon anyone.." He said softly at the males concern for how they must feel. Indeed it wasn't something he was comfortable in dealing with but he making due. Oh, so they were there already. He hadn't even really realized it, though he didn't really think there would be any noticeable changes to alert them that they were there. "I would like a tour, since you have offered. It would be nice to be able to see a bit and get a feel for some of the other members." Really it was more of a, how they felt about him sorta deal but getting to know the area wouldn't be bad either. 'I don't know why you're allowing yourself to get lost in these ideas of grandeur, no one is ever going to accept you.' The voice hissed at him.
