Roll 51-70: The corridor ends rather abruptly, opening into a steep drop. However, there's a ladder, and it leads to another level of the same kind of hallway you were in before. Weird. Keep rolling, and subtract 1 Stamina.

He decided to stay silent for now, using the soft glow of his watch to light up the hallway. If Micah was lost, if Horace was lost well.. at least he was getting a bit of mapping done. Lost things were meant to be found, anyway. He debated getting out his headlamp or summoning, but a stronger light would likely only reflect back at him. Horace didn't really want to blind himself.

He was pondering the merits of bright lights in mirrored rooms when the floor just... stopped. With a small squeak, he leaned back, trying not to tumble down. There was a ladder.... and he took it. It didn't make sense to go back now.

The hallway lightened ahead of Micah, the floor and walls and the mirrors that hung there becoming visible. He refused to look into them as he passed, his steps quickening as he headed towards the glow of light at the end of the corridor. There was a way out -- he hoped it was a way out, anyway.

The corridor led into a large, round room at the bottom of a tower, with thin, narrow windows letting some light in. A narrow stairway with no railing wound upward around the inner curve of the tower. It looked precarious and incredibly unsafe. Micah's hand went to the pendant that lay over the front of his shirt. If he went up there and fell, would he be able to use the thing in time? Would it even work? He'd been told it would, and he knew magic s**t worked, but he'd never used one of these.

Nova returned to being a bracelet on his wrist when he let go of her lash, and he automatically hitched his sleeve up a little. He'd wait a little while to see if Horace made it through the maze of hallways, Micah decided.

He felt like he'd been going round and round in circles (because could someone really go round and round in something else - like a parallelogram?). The mirrors blended one into the other, all reflecting back his wary face. Horace looked every time, too - in the hope or fear that it would change. The hallways gradually lightened and, consequentially, his reflection seemed less and less grim and more himself.

Finally, like the hairline on a balding man, the mirrors thinned. He could've sworn they almost receded. But there was neither time nor desire to pursue that thought. A long, spindly staircase rose in front of him, daring him to climb it and pray for good balance. And, in front of that daunting near-precipice, was Micah.

"Hey," he said, unable to keep relief from threading through his voice. "What's a guy like you doin' in a place like this?"

"Waiting for you," Micah answered, and directed a scowl at Horace. It wasn't a very venomous one; he was more relieved than he meant to let on that Horace had made it though the maze of mirrors. "You get lost?" He'd also gotten lost, but he wasn't saying so.

He jerked a thumb at the crumbling staircase. "Guess there's only one way to go, huh? Don't really feel like trying to go back." He turned toward the stairs and started up them, though he did glance back to be sure Horace was following him. Then he yelped and grabbed at the wall as something seemed to shake and turn under his foot, making his ankle wobble in a way that made him distinctly nervous. "What the ********, be careful, this thing's falling apart," he snapped.

"You miss me?" He smiled at Micah's scowling face. "Yeah, or I lost you - whichever. You should get a SPECTRE watch when you can. They have that open radio channel with a ten mile radius. Of course, everyone in ten miles can hear you, but still, it's better than nothing." He reached out a hand to steady Micah as he almost slipped, grabbing out for the other man's arm.

"Be careful - here, let me-" And he manuevered past Micah further up the staircase. It wobbled precariously, seeminly held together with spit and dtermination. Precarious footing for his tiring feet. "This part looks fine, see if you just-" And then he was gone. If Micah looked closely, he'd notice a neatly opened trapdoor leading into utter darkness.

It was like riding a water slide in the dark. Horace slid and slid and slid until he was tumbled rather forcefully out. It wasn't a smooth slide, though. The trapdoor had opened onto stone and the various cuts and crags dragged across his skin painfully. There was no water to smooth the ride.

He was rolled painfully into the bright, cold sunlight.

"Yeah, I'm saving up," Micah answered, not addressing the clearly ridiculous idea of his having missed Horace. He was grateful for the steadying hand, and he nodded nervous thanks, and stood carefully flat against the wall as Horace edged around him and started further up the stairs, then followed.

The step that dropped out from under Horace was a surprise, and Micah yelped again with surprise. He bent down to have a look at the trapdoor, carefully not leaning too close, and muttered, "Aw, ********," before stepping very carefully around it and up to the next step. Once there, he sat down, a little shakily. This castle seemed determined to be as much of an obstacle as possible. He was just going to wait right here for a while and see if Horace could make his way back. It had nothing to do with being nervous; it was just practical.

"Aw, s**t," he muttered, looking around. The damn castle seemed to have swallowed him and spit him back up at the entrance. What a colossal d**k. Groaning, he picked himself up and dusted bits of grass from his clothing.

He pushed through the doors irritably, casting a baleful eye on the mirrors within. At least, Horace thought, it was more of the same, even if he felt a headache creeping up from behind his eyes. This time, he did not look from mirror to mirror as he walked, too focused on his end goal.

You left... He stopped in his track and spun. ******** hallucinogenic s**t, no doubt. Disgusted, he continued. Until he noticed his reflection was looking at him. His mouth... his reflection's mouth opened and words formed on its lips. Soundless, it kept speaking. Horace reached out and laid a hand on the mirror.

and you'll fall and fall and fall...

He pulled away from the mirror with a jerk, eyes narrowing. "This bullshit won't work on me, assholes," he grumbled. Slowly, he began to pick his way forward, hoping that as the hallways got darker, it meant he'd reach his eventual goal.

He keyed his spectre watch on, trying to match the hallway he was in with one of the ones he'd previously ventured down. It didn't quite work, but Horace still soldiered onwards, carefully not touching another mirror. Finally, the halls began to brighten and his footsteps sped up.

Dirty and looking a little worse for wear, Horace found himself back at the precarious staircase "Hey! You still there?" He called up. Stealth was obviously not his biggest concern at the moment.

The wait had felt like forever, and Micah had been starting to think that maybe he should go and look for Horace, as hopeless as that idea seemed. But a scuffed-up figure eventually emerged from the door at the foot of the stairs. Micah breathed a sigh of relief. "What took you so long," he called back. "I've been waiting."

"Sorry, I take a long time coming, I know. Better than premature, though." He grinned, clearly amused at his own (pretty lame) joke. Secretly, Horace was kind of glad Micah had waited for him. He was kind of hoping nothing terrible would happen - Horace was, after all, the one who had dragged Micah out here. But Micah was sitting there, safe and sound and they still had a long way to go.

He strode forward quickly, too quickly. A shard of glass sprang up, almost slicing through his feet. He stopped short, sucking in a deep breath. "Hah. Right, dangerous."

Micah made a wordless grumbling noise and tossed a loose bit of masonry down the stairs. It clattered and clinked on the rock and glass shards. "Careful," he called down, and stood up to continue up the stairs.

The step he stood on shifted and gave way under his feet, dumping him right into the trapdoor that had dragged Horace down. His startled shout followed him down the rocky chute.

Horace's shout would follow Micah down the trapdoor. Hopefully, he thought, Micah would simply pop out outside. Hopefully. He sat down on the stairs and tried not to count the minutes as he waited.
