It was easy, due to their size differences and Cerussite's thin frame, to straddle him with Aluminite's knees pressed against either side of his hips. One palm pressed hard against Cerussite's sternum and the other hand wrapped around his neck. The older, stronger man was careful to keep from putting too much pressure on his opponent's neck.

He only did enough to show it was serious but otherwise, he didn't want to hurt him.

Aluminite's chest was heaving, his cheeks flushed from the exertion and his darker green eyes met the man's paler ones. There was a slight shake of his head, an indication that if he submitted that it'd be over.

God, he wanted it to be over.

Labyrinithe sighed from where he stood, voice clear and steady when he said, "enough."

He let out a half-strangled gasp, a choking sound. There was a hand against his chest, another on his neck, and while the grip was not tight, it was still terrifying, Cerussite's eyes wide and fearful. A hand rose automatically, gloved fingers curling around Aluminite's wrist -

- and then he saw it: the infinitesimal shake of the other lieutenant's head, the expression in his eyes that said it all.

Cerussite's lips pressed together, and he swallowed hard, giving a fractional nod that made his cheeks flush. His fingers fell away, hands falling beside his head in a gesture of submission, and he stared up at Aluminite, his heart pounding loud in his ears.

Enough.

Cerussite hoped it was enough.

Cerussite didn't struggle as much as Aluminite had expected and he was thankful for that. His body remained tense even after the command was issued and he released his terrifying grip on the other man's neck. He breathed slowly, dared to be a little hopeful as he peeled himself off of the other man.

He pushed sticky, sweaty locks from his face and glanced over at his general, anxiety curling in his belly. Tentatively he stuck his hand out towards the other lieutenant, a careful offering to help him up.

The general came to stand before them, gold eyes shifting from one pair of green to the other. "Tend to his injuries," he instructed looking at the man who stood four inches taller. "Especially that leg." His gaze dropped to Cerussite's bad leg.

"I'll check on you later," he informed Aluminite, then turned stepping into the shadows and disappearing.

The minute the foreboding general was gone, Aluminite dared to breathe. "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't hurt you." He'd have bruises here and there but he fared better than the smaller man.

"I-- he -- I'm sorry." Aluminite winced at his inability to form words. "I don't have to check them -- injuries if you don't want. If it's better-- I can go, or you can. I don't--"

The seconds ticked by, feeling somehow slower, as though time had decided to slow itself down into nothing at all. Cerussite could feel the pounding of his heart, the race of his pulse, and tried to look, not weak, exactly, but as though he were yielding.

And then Aluminite was pushing off of him and his breath came back into himself abruptly, Cerussite heaving, gasping. He hesitated only a second before reaching to grasp the other's hand, and he was hauling himself up, his heartbeat erratic.

The general was staring at him and Cerussite felt the scrutinizing. Apprehension was burning in his veins, and he felt himself cowering beneath it, swallowing hard against the flood of insecurities that came along with it.

His face burned as his leg was mentioned - and then, mercifully, the general was gone. Cerussite's breath escaped him in a long sigh, and he turned to look at Aluminite, swallowing hard.

"I'm...I'm okay," he said, and offered a weak smile. "It's okay. I'll - I'll be fine."

He just wanted to get home, far from here, Cerussite turning to go - but just before he did, he glanced over his shoulder, his expression shifting slightly.

"Thank you," he murmured, and limped off.
