She delighted in knowing hearing about his family. It seemed to her like they all led such fascinating lives. "You have a very large family." She smiled as she gave the compliment. It was when he asked about hers that she frowned and tucked her wings ever closer to herself. "I don't know they.. who ever they were they didn't want me...The only family I ever had was the two-legger I told you about. I guess you could say that it's why this quest is so important to me..."

He looked ahead letting his odd shaped wings be tussled in the wind of the upcoming weather. Blankets and other possessions indeed were necessity because the elder had spoken of the cold months to come. His worriment came to mind that that may have to huddle somewhere if it got too cold. He didn't want his upcoming profession to seem too forward using his larger form to provide her warmth if she deemed it too cold. Thankfully, his mother had taught him all the ways to seek shelter and survive should the elements be paired against you. He had unfortunately missed the last full storm that had hit the land not being born in that age. He did know what snow was though so that powdery stuff that danced out of the sky was a great indication more of it was preparing its decent.
His thoughts then turned back to the lady in waiting he was escorting, "As I've said I've only known one two-legger which is part of the elder's herd. When I first saw her she was odd because she wasn't formed like us. She does have a mane though but no tail and of course walks on two legs" He knew of course this was common knowledge but to Angelou it still boggled him how different she was still to be accepted by Celendria as a herd member. "But" he mused, "she is very nice and she cares for the herd almost like a mother to us. Daily brushings, sweet treats, and overall happiness." He looked at Whinny as he stepped high with a swish of his tail, "Tell me more about your two-legger if you can. Things we might look for like how she moves, thinks, breathes. I can't exactly tell my herd two-legger what we're seeking but the elder may be able to". His nostrils picked up the smell of a campfire from the teepee. It was strangely aromatic and yet he knew it well. "This way" he announced leading her to the Northwest as he turned their direction to the smell of the campfire.
"Not much longer Whinny. Smell that? That's how I know where we are." he nodded with a smile upon his muzzle. He was doing a great job so far though it was a learning experience.
"Whinny" he paused looking at her for a moment, "You'd always be accepted in the herd I belong to that is if you ever need a place to stay". Indeed the stallion felt bad knowing her pain of rejection but his offer was genuine because Celendria always accepted those that didn't cause harm to the herd.

She smiled fondly at the memory of the young woman that cared for her. "She was a scrawny thing.. feisty too Liked to keep to herself rather than to be around too many within her village. She kept her camp to the far edges of their community preferring her privacy." She closed her eyes for a moment. Her mane was a mess near constant that fell to her middle and often she smelled of roses or lemon verbena."
Opening her eyes so as not to trip, she continued. "When the males of their village would throw stones at me she'd fight with the ferocity of a mare protecting her foals.. she really was a sweet and gentle person.. And happy when left to her own devices and amusement by the rest of her kin."
She looked to him and sniffed the air as they changed direction. The smell of a camp fire wasn't unknown to her.. but this one smelled different from that which she'd been accustomed to. "So then we are very close indeed.." She pressed on further with a hurry to her step almost passing him by as she walked. her short legs carried her at a determined pace. "Well, on with it I guess.. the sooner we get there, the sooner we can be on our way."
She looked at him with a sheepish look. "I do not mean to hurry you off without saying a farewell to your family though of course.. I just thought it would be nice to get a good start on us before night falls and we are forced to take cover to sleep." She had a new excitement for the trip ahead of them.
Her look turned to a slight astonished look when he offered her a place among his own herd. "I thank you.. but should you really be offering such a thing to some one they and you yourself do not know very well? I mean you risk much as is by offering to lead me around. Some would say it foolish to follow a mare so trustingly so early on." It wasn't that she had reason to doubt herself or that they should have reason to doubt her even.. She just knew most others were well guarded with individuals they'd only known maybe a few hours. Yet here this stallion was, Offering to be her guard and even offering her a place to seek refuge should she like. .

Rein_Carnation The smaller stallion of his family looked upwards toward clouds as they slowly swayed past them. He knew his parents were probably off in the west islands somewhere. With the foretelling of winter they prefered days of sunshine and adventuring. "My family.... are out on an adventure so I guarantee they won't be in the teepee area when we get there. When it gets frigid outside they head to the south West Islands to avoid the cold weather.
He then paused with a shake of his head," "Lady Whinny it is the code all the herd members follow under our elder. No creature great or small is ever turned away. I'm sure you would never intentionally cause harm to anyone so I mentioned it in good grace. Please do not feel offended that I have asked you. It's something we all do because it's asked of us". He yawned for a moment feeling a nippy wind play around his foliage shaped wings. Spring was coming but there was rumor to be at least one more big storm before everything was said and done.
He picked up his pace a bit hoping she wouldn't get startled by a stick again. It was embarrassing to watch but he knew it was worse for her to explain. So with a noble reply he'd make her feel not ousted but acknowledged he wasn't laughing at her. Finally he reached the hillside noticing the teepee and campfire outside. Perhaps the girl would have treats ready for them. Usually when a Soquili stepped into the campsite she knew they were coming well ahead. "Here we are" he announced standing proudly before he lead her down to the campsite.

lysia_nyteblade Her steps were sure and careful lest she stumble and look the fool once more. "Thank you, Angelou." She spoke in earnest. It warmed her to know that there was still yet such kindness in the world. "Your family must not like the cold much." She spoke with a small smile. "I could hardly blame them I suppose. The winter's n** can be a slight bother to the thin membranes of the wings." She chanced a moment to glance back at her wings as they pressed further. Many a time had she felt winter's cold against her thin delicate looking wings.
Her withers jittered slightly. It was a slight show of nerves that danced across her pelt. Was it that She'd been so long without the company of a two-legger that un-nerved her so? Or was it just that she was anxious to press onto their journey? What ever the cause, she couldn't explain. Nipping at her side, she brushed it off as though she were nipping at a pest that had lit upon her back.
As they drew closer to the teepee, she could see the familiar out line and shape ahead. "It is ok right, you are very sure of this?" Though he'd stated it once; still some part of her wanted to shy way. It was perhaps the same reason for her nerves to be around a human once more. Too long had it been that she was some how finding herself to be unsure of their company. Swallowing a lump that seemed to have formed in her throat, she nodded her head giving herself resolve without waiting for his assurance. She could smell other things besides the fire. It appeared that some cooking had been done recently. Ears perking, she wondered what had been made. "Is she expecting us?" She had to wonder if they might be intruding. Still she didn't make to bolt in the opposite direction.

The stallion moved into the camp letting out a familiar whinny in greeting. This alerted the teepee area of a visitor or sometimes an enemy. From a colt till adulthood he was taught these methods making himself quite knowledgeable to the customs from the moment he was taught. A moment had passed then he noted a familiar response that was a form of a howl echoing around the area. He was always amused how that little wolf was always there waiting patiently with the elder. Pawing the ground he felt a nipping wind pass them quickly then noted the elder. She looked ethereal as ever in his wonderment not a day changing the beauty she carried within.
The ice nare came trotting around the side of the teepee her little wolf companion Amadahy in tow. He watched as her silken white mane followed after her like the riverbed when it was flourishing and full. She came to a stop before him Amadahy sitting on her canine haunches watching curiously.
"Celendria my elder. I have come for supplies in a journey I am facing to help Lady Whinny find her two legger. Can Tiranna help us"? he asked with a nod in respect to the ice elder. Always respect to her as she was single soul that made this herd as hearty as it was rumored. Each Soquili had a place with a position within each rank of the herd be they healers, mentors, or just teachers. All of them including their animal companions respected the law that they grew within."Angelou. I have not seen you since you went out adventuring to be a knight" she responded with a small dip of her head, "I will talk with Tirranna and see what I can find for you. I won't be long". Then the mare walked calmly toward the teepee then stepped through disappearing into the darkness from what could be seen. The stallion turned to Whinny, "Always respect here in the two-legger's camp we all have. The elder Celndria is both wise watching over most of us as foals and welcoming the new herd members. "She'll tell the two-legger Tirranna what we need you'll see". He nodded to her turning his attention back to the teepee. wc: 315

lysia_nyteblade As they reached the teepee area, she fell back behind Angelou once more. It wasn't that she was terribly shy, in fact she thought it more of a respectful action on her part to fall behind as a stranger to those that might be making a home of the place. She was a guest in this area after all. The last thing she'd want to do is to cross anyone un-intentionally.
As the elder mare met them, she dipped her head in a show of respect to her, staying quiet as the two conversed. She was letting him do the talking. After all, he was familiar with the mare and knew what they'd be needing for the journey. Quietly, she looked around as the two conversed till the mare soon left and he turned to address her once more.
"She seemed nice enough." It was all she could say. She'd have to take his word on everything else since she didn't know the mare like he did. When he turned his attention back to the teepee, she flicked her ears forward, waiting quietly as they watched the way the elder mare had gone. Her curiosity was definitely peeked as they waited. She wanted to walk around and have a look to familiarize herself with the area. However, she didn't want to overstep any boundaries or upset anyone.
Once more she opened and closed her wings like a butterfly that was feeding. It was a nervous gesture of sorts, something she did only when she wasn't too sure of a situation and didn't know what was expected of her. Finally she spoke once more. "So, you grew up here? What was it like?" She knew he'd spoken about his child hood some. She figured it would help the time pass as they waited the elder's return from the teepee. "Have any special hide outs when you were a foal?"

Rein_Carnation The stallion stood waiting patiently his posture rigid but not in hostility more so it was defensive for his quest deserved completion. He himself pondered how a large mare could potentially fit in the teepee but it wasn't his place to ask. Instead he responded to Whinny's query with a smile, "Here let me show you around a little so you can register the settlement in your mind". Nodding he stepped in front of her with an encouraging sway of his head. Pointing to the teepee he chuckled, "I was born in there actually. In all honesty the two-leggers her are midwives placing all the foals in baskets dusted with our pelt colors so we can be identified. Once we are strong the basket weave gives and we step out in the world for the first time". He looked at the teepee flap opening with deep adoration, "My mother is much smaller than me our course, father is much bigger being a winged. I was told in bedtime stories how my mother would lie next to the baskets and sing to us. I don't really remember but I'm sure she did".
Walking over to outdoor firepit he spoke again, "She has one of these inside too for the heavy winters and rains. A day like today she'll cook things outside making treats for the herd and essentials for herself". He looked back at Whinny for any queries she may have possessed, "Growing up here was amazing especially getting to meet the others that live here. Some stayed while others went off in their own directions. But, we always return here because this is our home".
Stepping over toward a grove of trees he spoke again, "Down there is the meadow with the stream bed where the two-legger gets her water from. To the right of that is a lake which we all visit from time to time. It's a serene spot which you need not feel threatened here. Celendria the elder is our protector".
Looking back at the teepee he noted that his elder still had not returned. The wonderment hit him that they may need to camp here for the night if it grew much later in the day. He was unsure though of Whinny's feelings staying in such a strange settlement with foreign faces and placement. wc: 388

lysia_nyteblade Her query hadn't been out of curiosity of life with a two-legger. More so a question of what it's been like for him. As she walked behind him, memories of the settlement she'd shared with the woman who'd raised her filtered through. She remembered sharing the teepee with her, though, back then she'd been far smaller as a foal. She couldn't imagine being able to enter such a dwelling now that she was an adult without shrinking.
"I remember," She paused a moment looking over the outer fire pits now. "We had one of these back then." She smiled fondly at the fire pit, inhaling some of familiar scent of fire wood burning. "So there were many others who drifted through?" Her ears perked at him. It was intriguing, all that time with the woman that raised her and not once could she remember there being many other soquili that passed through their encampment. In fact, she'd seemed content to have been more alone and on the edges of the village in her happy seclusion.
It often seemed as though she were just some welcomed guest among the others of her tribe than an actual member and the woman was more pleased to keep them at a distance than to openly seek their approval in anything. "It sounds like you all have a very warm home here." Sh offered a smile as she followed his gaze back to the teepee. "Pondering the lateness?" She looked to the sky for the sun. They still had a few hours left of sunlight it seemed. However, if they wanted to get started today, they'd likely have to be heading out soon. "We might have to stay the night." It was her own observation she spoke as she looked around the encampment.

Idle times lest the sun set without prior notifications.
Angelou was so mused in his tales he barely noticed the sun slipping slowly as if by magic leaving a flickering in its pronounced spot. Now his ears flicked to a chillier breeze as it sidled upwards from the rump to his withers. Essentially, he admitted that one was more of a warning in retrospect. While he wasn't hearty like some of the stallions he was more smaller statured leaving the winds severe in nature to topple him over like a two-legger child tipping a nonchalant cow in its own world. "Hmm" he pondered as his ears flicked toward the teepee, "I think that we both could stay here if you wish. The winds have been testing us with those nippy breezes. If we do stay here tonight I think by first morn we shall be off on our quest Whinny".
Daylight truly wasn't an ally as an owl hooted far off in the distance.
He pondered a moment looking at the teepee flaps knowing if they shrank a bit they could spend the night within the safety of the warmth. His attention though slid backward to her questions content to answer them, "Many times throughout the year the departed herd will reunite like my parents after their adventures out in the islands. Each one has their own paths in life but all will return to pay respect to our elder.
"Ahrooooooooooo" came the call of a small wolf as the iced elder reappeared from whence she came, "In my own eyes young Angelou and Whinny there is a snow incoming. It would be in your best interest to stay here rested heading out first morn. Trust me when i speak of frost when it glitters upon the ground. Both your wings are fragile within such conditions."
]The knight looked upon the maiden for his eyes momentarily traced the softness of her delicate wings as the chilly nipped at them, "Alright then. We'll stay here and hopefully get some of those spiced hot apples. I'm sure Tiranna will have everything ready for us. Whinny would you like to visit the area more or prepare for dinner I'm sure is cooking right now." Truth be told his tummy gurgled with the scents of spiced hot apples in his mind. Those delicacies were amazing when the wind turned against one's liking.
"Whinny? have you ever tried spiced apple rings or heated apple brew?"
He surely was being polite in the matter as he waited for her reply. Tirranna was a mastermind at keeping everyone set for outings and delicious meals. Decent rest would be needed if they were to make up time heading out. "Wing warmers" as they were nicknamed were a soft material that fitted over wings to keep off the chill. If there was indeed a winter frost coming to the settlement then they'd be safer walking with warmed wings then frozen membranes. Too many times he couldn't forget that his wings froze together and had to be carefully thawed.
Walking forward to the teepee flaps he turned back to Whinny, "Shall we?" Bowing his head to her he opened the flap of the teepee for her to enter. Not once had he gave her a disregarded look but closed his eyes in promise he was adhering to his role as a "protective knight"

As the sun drifted ever lower in the sky and the chill crept across her backside, she pulled her wings into her sides tighter. The prospect of a warm place to sleep sounded promising. A normal place to bed down for once where she wasn't shivering all night in the cold or held up in a knot hole hoping she didn't accidently grow inside the tree while she waited for a vile soquili who wanted nothing more than to kill her for fun went on it's own way, it all seemed like a far off dream. and that was why this adventure was going to start. He had his home, but she lacked hers so they were searching for it. "It truly must be interesting to hear so many different stories from where they've all been." It was a fascinating thought to have all those different stories from different lands. She'd seen her fair share of travels though and if one thing, she'd found them quite, lonely.
As the elder mare returned, she listened carefully. The way she spoke sounded most like a prophecy of some sort. Well, far be it from her to argue with some one who appeared to as though the had the gift of sight. If she were wrong then what was the wors? They spent the night resting before a long journey loosing a little time? She shook her head slightly, it was better to hold up for the night and continue their journey in the morning refreshed and fed.
Nodding her agreement with Angelou, she began to follow his lead. Her spirits perked at the prospect of a warm meal to go with their warm bed. "I don't believe I have." She thought long and hard on what sorts of things she'd eaten with the woman who'd raised her. "Are they as delicious as they sound?" Her ears perked farther as they edged towards the entrance of the dwelling. "What is Apple brew though?" Her tilted her head to the side with the question.
As he opened the flap for her to enter, she ducked her head, nodding him her thanks. "Thank you Angelou." She offered a small smile as she walked into the dwelling walking around the direction she'd learned from living with her long time human companion. At once, her wings relaxed their clinging hold on her sides. the warmth was a welcomed feeling to the bite of the setting night's chill air. For once, she wouldn't be forced to thaw her wings in the morning from the harsh chill of night. Once settled into a place near the door, though not barring entry, she waited for Angelou to follow her. "I was thinking that in the morning we might find a blanket or two to cover our wings if the coming frost is true. From here, we can make our way towards the big river and start there." she was already working on steps 'A' through 'Z' as she went over what areas she'd already scoured in her search.
