No worries!

"I think I would probably melt into a little puddle in that kind of heat!" Dith grinned. After a moment he snorted and amended to; "Okay so a large puddle but my point stands, I can't imagine being anywhere so hot! You must have really good air conditioning to survive it and still be able to get anything done. Heh, and yes, I can imagine that will take some getting used to! I hope it's not too much of a distraction to you."

At that point food arrived, much to Dith's relief. He had ordered a large double cheese burger with bacon along with sides of slaw, salad, a large order of fries, onion rings, and some mozzarella sticks. Dith picked up one of the mozzarella sticks, dipped it in the garlic mayo, and gestured to his large volume of sides. "If you'd like anything please feel free to dip in! There is plenty here." He could quite happily eat the whole spread unaided but he wouldn't miss it if Citrine felt like picking.

She laughed at that. "Yes, a very large puddle." Citrine agreed. Her eyes widened at the food that came. She hadn't realized just how much Dith had really ordered. "Whoa." She said, as he small french dip sandwich was set out. But at his offer of sharing, she grinned happily. "Gladly! Thank you!" And she snatched up a mozzerella stick. Yeah it was still tongue scaldingly hot, but she ate it none the less, breathing in as she pulled on the cheese to cool it as it went into her mouth. After the stick of delicious cheesyness was devoured, she spoke again.

"Nah, AC is pretty wasteful. Gotta wear light clothes and drink lots of water though. And shade is your best friend. Though water and shade can be kinda hard to find sometimes. Though big places like malls and stuff have AC. But most houses don't really." She thought about it, trying to think of other places that had AC. "Maybe some businesses? Places with lots of computers probably needed it. I wonder if the schools had AC? I donno." She was sort of talking to herself as she pondered.

Dith grinned in response to Citrine's expression of surprise at the volume of food he'd ordered. "Heh, I'm only a little bit hungry you understand, and all I had for breakfast was oatmeal followed by two poached eggs on toast." Mmmmh, chips. "But I did do a couple of hours at the gym after that." Ah, he had to remember to get that bagel for Lovelace on his way home. Humm. Perhaps she would agree to meet Citrine at some point? It would do her good to make more friends. Perhaps he would text her in a bit and ask.

"Lots of water, shade, and a spritz bottle sounds like a start," Dith continued with a slight shake of his head. "I can't imagine anywhere so hot! So did you ever see snow while you were living there or was it a new thing when you moved away?"

"No wonder you're so tall." She laughed. All your food makes you grow up, not out like most people." She liked Dith, and the more they talked, the more glad she was that she contacted him over anyone else. People her age would probably never let her live down her panic anyways. She took a bite of her sandwich just as Dith asked her about snow, and she almost spit it out, trying to talk with her mouth full. "Mumph." She held up a finger to ask him to wait a moment. When she had swallowed, she was able to answer him.

"Nah, I never saw snow. So being here was a shock. I mean, rain is pretty rare back home, and when it's raining, it's still warm out. But you know, not hot. Hot rain sounds really unpleasant. And really, it wasn't until last year that I saw snow, when I met Santa and Betty. I uh... I was trying to ski when a resort opened up for a day for free." She rubbed the back of her neck a little. "That day could have been a disaster... But I did make some new friends, so I guess it worked out ok. Even if I did eat more snow then I would have liked." She had fallen more then once, after all.

"I'm constantly amazed how different Kodo is from back home. I mean the climate is so different for one, sure. But it's so... small. Traveling between villages back home could be more then a day's travel by car. And there are more types of pokemon. We have a lot of rock and ground types back home. And some fire types. So seeing all the different ones here is really amazing. Even the people here! Everyone, pretty much, has been so... nice to me." She was smiling, though it did turn a little distant after a moment.

"Ha! Well I have grown out enough too," Dith replied with a grin and a lift of his huge shoulders. When he had been twenty, twenty one or so and boxing competitively he remembered being almost entirely muscle with chiselled abs and all. Honestly he felt a lot more comfortable in the body he had now, just as much muscle but with a comfortable stomach rather than hard maintained six pack. "You should have seen me when I was, oh, say fifteen or sixteen? I looked like a noodle," he pulled a face and then grinned again. "I was already six foot by the time I was thirteen! I looked very silly until I started to bulk out in my late teens." Yes, even the ridiculous abs had been better than being a beanpole.

"Small is right though," Dith agreed with a shake of his head. "In the wilder, far flung parts of Russian you can drive for a very long time without passing another car let alone a town or anything. I do love it though, I sort of ended up here by accident really, I was just travelling all around at the time but then I was caught up in the conflict with Team Rocket and," he shrugged, "how could I leave? Once I had settled in for a while I was glad it worked out that way, I became happier here than I had been for a long time before." It had given him a purpose in addition to his work, and he had made new friends far away from the mess he'd left behind. How was Anyuta doing? He hadn't heard from her in... he wasn't even sure how long. He hoped she was well though.

"You're too old to have ever been my age." Citrine teased him as he talked. The idea of him being a skinny beanpole was actually really funny. Hard to believe too. "But as long as you only looked like a noodle, and didn't have noodles for brains, I don't see a problem with it. But hot damn, you were so tall! I'm jealous. Well, you're still tall, but you're also like... old enough to be a dad. Aren't dad's supposed to be tall?" She looked at her drink suddenly. "Are you a dad?" She asked sheepishly. She didn't really know much about Dith, if she were completely honest.

"I came here because there isn't much to do as a pokemon trainer back home. We don't have a gym circuit either, or not anymore. I heard we did like 30 years ago, but because it's so vast a region, people didn't want to do it. In the sun. In the desert." She thought for a little while longer. "I'm happier here too, but if I were to be honest, it's kind of miserable back home for me."

"I know, it's strange but true!" Dith grinned with an exaggerated shrug. "It certainly feels like it was another lifetime, well almost anyway." He was definitely feeling a little bit old lately, fifty was getting uncomfortably close. He knew that it was just another number but arbitrary though it was it was- well it was half a century. Wow he was old. "Ah, but no I'm not." Dith smiled wryly and shook his head. "I always thought I would be but it never happened. I was married once but my wife didn't want children so," he shrugged, "and by the time we divorced it seemed a little late. Heh, and also I haven't met anyone else since." He did regret it, a lot sometimes, but honestly his young friends made up for it a lot. With the thought in his mind Dith grinned and added; "But I have plenty of young friends like you who I can coddle, so it's not so bad.... What's miserable about being home though? If you don't mind talking about it."

"It practically was another lifetime, right?" She decided not to poke fun at his age (again) though. She listened to him talk about wanting to be a father and sighed. "Well, see I don't have a dad." She stated simply. "I know that's not the worst thing in the world, but my mom wasn't married when she had me, so I am by definition, a b*****d. And there's a cultural stigma back home about bastards being worse then the dirt on your shoes. And of course, kids are real jerks, so I went to school online because boys are dumb and girls are mean." She snorted. Citrine hated that about her home. "It's not like I had any say on who my parents were." She took a sip of cider. "Mom won't talk about who my dad is either." She sometimes wondered if she should look for him. But she didn't know where to start.

That sounded like it did suck, no wonder she was glad to get away to Kodo where pretty much nobody cared where you'd come from. Dith offered Citrine a sympathetic smile and pushed the mozzarella sticks closer to her. "You're right, kids can definitely be jerks- people in general in fact. I'm sorry you were treated like that, like you said it's not as though you got to choose right? None of us can determine how we come into the world, we can only choose what to do once we're here and choosing to be a- ah, to be unkind to people for things they have no control over is not a good choice if you ask me. Heh, and if you need vaguely paternal advice and bad dad jokes I'm always here. I know it's not the same," Dith shrugged, "but the offer is there all the same." She had come to him when she thought she was hearing voices, that said something right? If it did then he was glad of it, he liked the idea of Citrine coming to him for help and of being able to actually offer it.

She shrugged a little. She wasn't home NOW though, so... She was mad at herself for moping. When Dith pushed the fried breaded sticks of cheesy goodness towards her, her face lit up a little. "Thanks." She took another and crammed it in her mouth.

"Hmmph, I could always use more bad dad jokes." She nodded. "You're also kinda the closest thing to a dad, besides my grandpa, but between you and me, he's oooooooooooooold." She was poking fun at him, and maybe a little at Dith too. "So should I start calling you papa-Dith?" She quirked an eyebrow up at him.

"I bet he is!" Dith grinned. "As old as my parents probably, they are seriously old... and yet somehow cooler than I have ever been. It's unfair, but I make the best of it." He suspected that Citrine would like his Dad, as for his Mother... always difficult to say with her; some liked her, some were rightfully terrified of her.

But- Humm. Dith considered Citrine's question as he chewed a mouthful of burger. Well why not? If she wanted to that was, and honestly it would kind of make him happy; sort of informally adoptedish family-kinda.

"Heh, well only if you'd like to," he said once he'd swallowed. "I wouldn't wish to inflict my fussing on an unwilling victim! Only willing victims."

Dith might be sad to know that her grandparents are only about 60-ish. xd

She was tempted to tell him how old her grandparents were, but it slipped from her mind as he talked on. "Yeah, my mom is really cool. My gran is a free spirit. Grandpa says that I get it from her." She nodded.

"Ah, can't say I'll do it regularly." Couldn't even promise she'd remember, but it was nice that Dith was... actually willing to be the father figure she didn't have, that she actually desperately wanted. She picked up her drink before adding slyly "You know, you might actually like my mom..." She wasn't serious, but she kinda wanted to see his reaction.

Lol, he would be too XD

"Ha!" Dith grinned and shook his head. "Oh no, no I know how this goes! I have seen enough movies and if this conversation goes any further I have a lot of Comic Mishaps in my future. Heh, not that I'd object to meeting her; I can totally understand if she would want to vet my suitability to be around you." Citrine's mother would be well within her rights to be thoroughly weirded out by a man of nearly fifty hanging out with her seventeen year old daughter, especially when said daughter was far from home and therefore vulnerable etc. Perhaps it would set her mind at rest to at least have a conversation sometime? Well, that was up to Citrine he supposed; she knew her mother best, and therefore if she'd worry or not.

Dith grinned again and gestured vaguely with an onion ring. "So feel free to give her my number in a non weird, not trying to pick up your mother way."

I laughed way too hard at that.

Citrine started laughing. This was a far cry better then how she'd come into the cafe. She was no longer gloomy and distressed, and was really enjoying herself. "Comic mishaps?" she snorted. "I think if my mom were too worried about me meeting people she proooooooooobably wouldn't have let me come back to Kodo by myself." Maybe that said something about her mom. Citrine wondered if mom just really trusted her, and that made her smile.

"Nah, she'd probably laugh if I tried to fix her up with someone. And since she's on basically the other side of the world... Yeah, that'd be too hard. Long distance is one thing. This would be ridiculous. And it might be weird if she started calling my friends to check up on me. ... Mom's never been a helicopter parent before. Oh man, that would be so creepy! AUGH!"

"Heh, well that's true; all of the above," Dith agreed with a grin and a shrug; to be fair Citrine had been running around Kodo for years now so her mother must trust her judgement. "When my mother wants to helicopter she comes personally, stalks me all day, and then breaks into my apartment to comment disparagingly on its security. I guess she thinks it needs more machine gun turrets and secret weapon stashes? She a very practical woman, if a liiiitle over zealous." Just a little.
