Evan listened, nodding slowly as he took in the name and information. "Oh. Just sticks? I've got, like." He glanced towards his bag. "…Pepper spray and, uh. This."
Hesitantly he opened the messenger's bag he had thrown his shoulder and plunged his hand into it. After a few seconds of fishing around he withdrew a fairly sizable knife, straight from his kitchen. "But uh. I mean, I'm used to cutting up food, not monsters. But I don't know, it seemed like it was stupid not to carry a backup plan. Plus, I heard that if you let the monsters get to you, they can do something awful. Like, worse than death, awful. They mess up your soul or—starseed? Or whatever."
He shifted positions on his feet and slid the knife back into his bag. "…I heard that if they mess that up, it's bad. And considering how bad death is, something worse than death? …No, thank you."

Oort's reddish eyes widened slightly from beneath his glasses as he stared at the knife that Evan had produced from his bag. Because it was a pretty big knife.
A really big knife - and whilst he guessed that the other was right in it being able to deal with the monsters - he had just kind of stuck his hand in and fished around...
And fishing around randomly for pointy objects was kind of bad.
"Aren't you worried about cutting yourself?" he asked - well more half blurted out before adding "Although I guess that both that and the pepper spray would deal with the monsters."
Because actually the pepper spray would probably work on the monsters much better than the sticks that he tended to rely on.Kyuseisha no Hikari Apologies for taking so long with this Kyu

Evan opened his mouth to say something but promptly shut his mouth. Whatever he'd had on his mind to shoot back was apparently not something he wanted to share with a stranger—much less a kid.
"Well, no, I'm not really worried about cutting myself. I work in a kitchen, I know how to handle a knife. I'd have a really hard time cutting myself on accident. But I guess, I mean, you know. It's not just for…the youma," he finally mumbled, shuffling on his feet.
"…If my options are, you know…get turned into a monster that does bad things and hurts people with no chance of ever getting saved, or, like…dying…"
His eyes were on the ground and he shrugged. "…If it came down to it, dying kinda seems like the better option, you know? And…and if I died, I'd be reborn one day anyway, right? In the whole…soul…thing. I don't know, a Knight told me. But she said your soul doesn't get reborn if you turn into a youma. You're just…not yourself, and evil. Forever."

Oort considered Evan's words seriously for a few moments. "I wouldn't want to be a monster either" he agreed at last.
Because the monsters hurt people and Oort didn't want to do that...
But he didn't want to die either, because that didn't particularly seem like a better option to him - more like something that would just beyond suck.
"Well I don't mind helping out with monsters" he offered at last. After all it was part of his superhero duties and Oort was keeping an eye out for them anyway.Kyuseisha no Hikari Apologies for taking so long to tag this Kyu, I should hopefully get to our other open one relatively soon-ish

Evan chanced an awkward, hopeful smile. "Yeah?"
He sounded like he'd lost his confidence, but there was a little spark of enthusiasm. "Well, I'd be grateful to you. I don't know how I'd repay you. Usually I invite people back to the bar I work at and offer to feed them, but most of them look like they could slip in back without things being too awkward. But you're even shorter than me, and if I stick out like a sore thumb, I know they'd spot you in a second. But, uhm. I mean, I can give you the address and if you're ever hungry or anything, you can drop by? —Or you can text me, maybe, and I can make you something to pick up? I know it's not much, but…"
His voice trailed off for a second and he shrugged. "Making food's just about the only thing I'm good at. That and, you know, attracting trouble but I get the impression that you see enough trouble without me, so food seems like the best thing to offer."litian I never mind the wait! Especially when you are so patient with me!

"Sure" Oort said and whilst his reddish eyes were serious, his voice was matter of fact.
He smiled himself then and whilst the smile was small and on the serious side, it was still a smile.
"Dealing with the monsters is part of the whole superhero thing - so I have to watch out for them anyway but..."
He hesitated for a brief moment "I like cookies - s'pecially chocolate chip ones."
'Like' was perhaps a bit of an understatement - Briar and therefore by extension Oort - loved chocolate chip cookies.

Evan's mood picked up again, almost immediately. "Yeah?" he asked, and scrambled to peel out a piece of paper from his pocket. He had crumbled sheets—recipe fragments—and a pack of matches from the bar. He debated for a moment and then tore off the cover of the matches—with the name and address of the bar on it, before scribbling down his number on the inside. He quickly shoved the rest of the matches, his paper scraps, and pen back into his messenger bag. "Text me, then—or drop by, if you're feeling sneaky."
He wasn't much of a baker—at least, he liked to cook, more, but he could make cookies. "Any time you want, just let me know and I'll whip some up for you."
His adrenaline was fading, just a bit; he was exhausted and despite his enthusiasm for repaying Oort, the fatigue had started to show. Home—sleeping, in a nice, safe bed with all the doors and windows locked and a blanket over his head seemed like the best thing he could hope for right now.

Oort nodded at the question "Yes they're the best" he said seriously, because cookies were serious business "Especially when they're warm."
He reached out take the cardboard of the match box cover from Evan with a small smile as he said "I will and I'll make sure to deal with the monsters too."
Although he probably wasn't going to be doing much of that tonight - since it was getting pretty late.
Which meant that he should probably get back to heading homewards.
Oort turned the piece of card carefully away before looking at Evan as he said "I have to head back now, but thank you for the cookie offer and be careful."
A small wave and then he was trudging out of the alleyway.

Evan understood—and a part of him was relieved when the Senshi started heading back. It didn't matter if Oort was obviously capable, Evan had a strange anxiety grip him when he thought of any kid out so late—and then the same sense of dread washed over him. He lingered in the area only long enough to watch as Oort disappeared, and a part of him wondered if he should trail after him to make sure he got home okay…
But Oort was stronger than Evan. Oort could take care of himself in a way that Evan had never been able to.
So, instead, Evan focused on getting himself back safely.litian Thank you, I had fun! I always love RPing with you! <3
