When he saw the dancer, he didn’t register that it was Shadiya at first. He continued looking around, wondering if she’d started serving food rather than cleaning it up. Frowning when he didn’t see her, he looked back over at the dancer and jumped about a foot backward with surprise. That was Shadiya! Where had she gotten that outfit?!
The Shadiya he was seeing now was a brighter, more vibrant version of the Shade he knew. She looked so carefree and made the graceful movements look easy. Looking around at the crowd, he saw that everyone looked happy watching Shade. He looked back himself, feeling his stomach clench. What was she doing traveling with someone like him? She needed to be at some fancy ballroom, not in an old tavern...
He straightened up when the scarf fell, almost getting up to grab it. He knew she was touchy about having that thing covering her face. However, that bright and happy smile he suddenly got made him forget all about the scarf. She really was beautiful... Again, why was she letting herself travel around with him...?
The room filled with applause when the dance was done, and Dex could only stare as the glowing dancer walked by. She hoped she did well? How could she think she'd done anything less than wonderful?
Making himself sit back down to wait rather than barging into wherever Shade had gone, he watched the tip bowl get passed around, seeing nearly everyone put a little something into it.

Slipping back into her traveling clothes, Shadiya stared at the dancer's attire with a bit of sorrow. Would she ever get the chance to do such things again? A small smile tugged at her lips, "Surely." After all she was free now. As long as she could escape Oba then she could dance as freely as she wanted. That was all she wanted in life.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a serving girl who brought a pouch over towards her, "The owner said you did great." The girl flushed lightly, "I mean I watched and I couldn't believe it! We haven't seen someone with that much skill in a while..." She trailed off and handed the pouch over, "He already took out the costs and there was extra coin. If you want feel free to come back, if not stay a while. I'm sure they would love you."
Shadiya smiled, "Thank you, but no. I have traveling plans that cannot be pushed off." Even if she would love to dance and entertain this wasn't the place for her. Plus, Dex was waiting. The last thing she wanted to do was make him wait...or even worse separate from him. Even if they only knew each other for a little while it was nice having a companion. With him by her side she suddenly felt like she wasn't so alone in the world.
As Shade left the back room she held another parcel in her arms. The owner had allowed her the extra clothes, for another small fee of course, but Shadiya was fine with that. Dancing clothes... She had never owned her own before, obviously since her uncle would have a fit to find them, and so this outfit even if slightly worn was worth millions to her. As she entered the main room again, the Oban grinned like a child as she spotted Dex.
"Did you see?" She flushed lightly, "I mean....I might not be able to wash dishes, but I found something to help us out." Shade bit her lip and looked towards Dex, "I'm sorry I didn't ask if it was alright with you...and I just kinda bolted without letting you know my plans first." Not like he was her uncle with a frightening temper, but as her friend she felt she should let him know more. Smiling she held up the small pouch and a small key, "I know it's not much, but we managed to cover the rest so this was an extra bonus. Our room is upstairs as well. After that I'm ready to pass out if you are."

Dex couldn't help brooding a bit. Would Shadiya prefer to stay here and dance? She'd probably be guaranteed food and a place to sleep. Surely a better off than tromping around Matori with him...
The weight lifted when Shade returned to him with that big smile. And there was that bashful look again, like she was worried about upsetting him. Ducking his head slightly, he tapped a toe against the ground. "No, it's okay. ..You were amazing up there." He raised his head again to smile. "It's more than we had before you danced. You deserve everything you earned." Looking at the key, he nodded. "I'm ready to sleep."

"Not true." Shadiya wagged a finger towards Dex, "Some of this is yours as well since you helped out." She laughed softly, "Considering that I actually broke things after all." She paused thoughtfully as she turned away towards the stairs leading up to the sleeping areas, "Alright then, it's right this way." But there's one little detail... Since they had arrived at such short notice and had just made way for paying off a room, Shadiya had little choice in which room they were housed in.
I hope this is alright.
Unlocking the door Shadiya ushered Dex through and quickly closed the door, "I'm exhausted so we should sleep soon....just umm...one thing." She flushed and tugged on a stray strand of hair sheepishly, "Apparently they only had one room left open and this was it." Normally one wouldn't be disappointed with the room, it had a wash basin and some area for traveling luggage while being presentably clean. The only thing to worry Shadiya was that this room wasn't meant for a pair of travelers. It was obvious in the fact that while the bed was bigger than most, it still was a single bed.
"So make yourself comfortable." Shade smiled awkwardly before placing her bag down on the one lounge chair in the room that was nestled by the window. Still feeling like her cheeks were aflame the girl opened the shades to peek outside. The sun was already fading away. My last sunset in Oba. She never would have believed it before, but here she finally was.

Brow rising, Dex ducked his head bashfully. He might have earned a little, but they'd gotten the coin through Shade's spectacular dancing. What he'd earned was what the owner had kept already.
Following after, his head cocked as Shade began to sound nervous again. Rubbing at a little stiffness out of his neck, he walked into the room and looked around. They had only this room left? It took him half an age to realize what the problem was. Just one bed. Seeing Shade's reaction made his own cheeks heat up. Was she thinking they'd share?!
"I-it's not a problem, really." he said quickly. He peeked into the storage closet and sighed with relief, pulling down the extra blanket. Oban nights could get quite cool, and they were at the border of Matori. "See? This is fine." Spreading the blanket onto the floor, he stretched himself right out on one half and pulled the other half over to cover himself.

At Dex's protests, Shadiya found herself turning away from the window. Puzzled she watched as he moved blankets from the storage closet. Was he that cold? Then as the pieces made sense the girl shook her head, "Oh, no! You shouldn't have to do that..." She hovered over him as he laid on the floor, "Surely that's not comfortable." Her own back ached at the thought of it. As the chilled air began to seep into the room the girl closed the window tightly.
Perhaps I was a bit too spoiled. Sighing Shadiya sat on the bed, "Either we share or we contest over this." She pouted towards her companion, "I don't want you to think that I should always get the better deal after all." She could at least throw him a pillow or something extra.

Looking up at Shadiya, his instinct was to be perplexed, but he felt himself wearing a tiny smile. It really was nice to have someone concerned... "I'm used to it," he started to explain away. He sat up as Shade continued insisting, brow knitting and face heating up again. He wasn't about to share the bed! "But... but there's not enough room for the both of us," he said quickly, trying to make a reason for staying on the floor. "Besides, it's only one night, right?"

"But, still..." Shadiya pouted as she sat on the bed, "I just feel guilty about it." Her gaze shimmered with frustration before she turned back to the bed, "You're right though, it's only one night." Still it didn't stop her from throwing another blanket and the pillow towards Dex, "Take that then." All these men and their manners towards women. And the whole must treat her like a lady thing! She wanted to argue more, but honestly the strain of their travel was wearing even Shade down.
It may have been childish, but she smirked as the pillow bounced towards Dex. "Attack successful." Shadiya laid down on the bed with her feet against the wall so that she could smile at Dex while hanging there, "Next time though I get the floor. Promise?" She laughed. Or better yet she would find a way to get them both a bed.

As the blanket and pillow flew at him, he yelped with surprise before laughing. Shaking his head, he stood up to let the first blanket lay folded for extra comfort, and then laid on top of that with the second blanket covering him. With two blankets and a pillow, he felt downright comfortable.
Looking back up at Shade, he found himself smirking. "We'll see," he said with a playful tone, quickly rolling so that his back was to Shade lest something else be thrown.
As he turned, he glanced up at the window. ..They would be in Matori tomorrow.

"Uh huh." Shadiya rolled her eyes towards Dex. For him to have such a tone perhaps she was letting him get too comfortable with her! The teasing thought created another laughter as she rolled on the bed. He's just lucky that I'm out of artillery. He was lucky that she was exhausted else she may have reached down there to bop him herself.
Reaching over Shadiya blew out the remaining lantern, "Goodnight, Dex." She whispered into the darkness. Using her cloak as an extra blanket for the one thin one that she had kept Shadiya found herself quietly curling up on the bed. It wasn't the most comfortable one she had ever slept on, but with Dexurn nearby she fell quickly into a peaceful sleep.
Tomorrow they would be in Matori and then she truly would feel free.
