Dagger in the back didn't help; if anything, he stiffened more.
"Point taken," he all but muttered, side eyeing the slew of options with a resting b***h face that made the woman exiting from that store stare back awkwardly. He forgot that scare like his and Chel's weren't exactly normal either, everything from demeanor to hair color suggested wild, though both had different definitions.
"Don't know about the Star Wars thing, but I think there's a new movie or something out, yes." Jack shrugged it off, although..."Anyone we know a fan?"

"A new movie?" Chel asked, incredulous. News always trickled down slowly to the island and Chel had heard nothing of a new movie. Now that she had, she had a hand on Jack's arm and a serious look on her face. She was a fan.
She pulled out her phone to send an important text, shooing Jack to a section with pinked stuffed ... things? (Was that some kind of egg? Or was it a creature? It had eyes ...? Japanese stores were weird ...)darkheartedsorrow Text to P Diddy: THEY MADE A NEM STAR WARS??????

"Well, that's one fan...Make it two." Jack gave the shelves a cursory look, finding that they all looked the same to be honest, at least to his eyes. "You want something from Star Wars, then? Most of this is for kids, though..."
Beat.
"Guess that makes it perfect for you anyway."

Chel only looked back at Jack once she was sure the text had gone through. This was important news and needed to be delivered with reverence.
"What? We're shoppin' for Abbi here. You can't tell me what yer gonna get me that ******** it all up." She crossed the few steps to his side and began rifling through the shelves herself. A coin purse? No Abbi had plenty of those. A stuffed animal? Maybe a safe bet for Jack- she held one up as if to say what about this one, from you?

"Just because you know it's Star Wars doesn't mean you know exactly what I'm getting you," he pointed out. And it was important to get something good: he found it almost irritating that her gifts were too thoughtful.
Scrutinizing the plushie for a few moments, Jack shrugged. "Doesn't she have a lot already?"

"Yeah but now I know it's Star Wars," she informed him, which apparently meant the present was somehow tainted.
She wiggled the stuffed animal a little bit before setting it back on the shelf. "Yeah, but that's how you know it's foolproof. She got a ton of 'em so you know she really likes 'em and wouldn't be pissed 'bout more." Easy logic; unfortunate that Chel didn't use it in more places.

"Exactly: she's got a ton already." Translation: cheap b*****d territory. Jack moved to a different section, sifting through clothes with a disgruntled expression.

Chel rolled her eyes and followed after, but there was a smile on her face. She liked watching him suffer a little. It was a nice change of pace from her usual flailing at the academy.
"You know, half of a present's just the way you tell it. Pick anythin' out and I can spin it for Abbi, watch." She waited with anticipation for his selection.

He didn't want to indulge her and it showed, even if the intention behind it was genuine. It might as well have been another spar between them, with Chel offering the heal this time.
"Fine." Might as well try to make it a challenge. Picking out the most random thing in his field of vision, Jack plucked out a box and looked at her expectantly. "Spin away."

Chel snickered at the ... thing he handed her before imitating its expression once. It almost would have been cute had it not been a face covered in scars and piercings.
"What's that say-" She took a moment to decipher the symbols, then said, "-Oh 'the lazy egg.' Huh. Well I'd probably tell Abbi somethin' like I been noticin' she's runnin' around a ton lately and that she needs t'be lazy sometimes." She wiggled the box in Jack's face- not her best summation, but still something that she knew would have made Abbi laugh.
She put the box back on the shelf and said, "You know what you should get her? Tights. Girl's a** looks good in short skirts an' tights make her wear 'em." Chel looked downright determined as she walked towards the leggings section. Thankfully patterned leggings were still a thing and they had many to choose from. "You shoulda seen the dress she had on the other day-"

He scoffed at her attempt, but a corner of his mouth tugged up anyway; she always did seem to manage it somehow.
Chel was tuned out, however, because the last thing he wanted to imagine was Abbi in any sexual light whatsoever. However, she did have a point: tights were a good idea, and a little more practical than just some boring plush toy that would get lost in her collection. "Jesus Christ, the way you go on about her, you should've gone and asked her out instead."

"I tried," Chel said bitterly. Abbi was not one easily caught and Chel regretted it every single day. "I asked her a shitton of times."
Jack could pick his tights out; Chel had already picked out a present for Abbi long ago. "Which ones you want? 'Cause then I need yer help with Finn's."

"It was a rhetorical statement," he muttered, back to being dour as he selected the closest set of tights for purchase, just to get it over with it. "Don't need the god damn details, Jesus...Now what kind of help do you want with him?"

"I never know what t'get Finn. There's booze, but everyone gets him that." Just like how everyone got Jack coffee mugs and everyone got Abbi cute things. For good reason, but it was cliche.
She leaned into him, pulling on his arm as they walked towards the register. "You know him and Rips best. Gotta be somethin' they been wantin' lately or s**t."

Jack gave her a look. "I'm not that close to Ripley. Sounds more like your territory," he replied with a verbal shrug as he got his wallet out, for now not reacting to the tug son his arm. "Ian and I pitched in to get Finn a guitar a while back. Maybe a book of sheet music? Or something related to Kingdom Hearts or Adventure Time, those are the two main ones I go to."
