Newgrange had been out of Destiny City more times than he could count this past month, and without a single normal trip to keep him sane. To Olympus, to his Wonder, to Olympus again…
He wasn't sure if this was a sign of good things—that he was finally coming into his role as a Knight—or if it was a sign of bad things—that things were finally heating up. All he was sure of was that if he was going to try to do his job better, he needed to get out more. This was probably as good a start as any, and maybe if he hung out with enough Knight, some of their good habits would rub off on him.
But for now, here he was. Sitting at Olympus, n the same seat that always seemed to call to him. He wasn't necessarily disinterested in what was going on—he had come, and he was listening. He was just preoccupied.
He had taken his first visit to his wonder—his first real visit, that meant anything. All just to get some ring.
But the whole trip hadn't gone in any way like he planned.
He sat on the bench at Olympus, listening but with his head bowed. He was hunched over, elbows on his knees and hair falling around him. Originally he had been able to focus on what the two were saying, but the more he stared down at the ground, the more words just seemed to turn into white noise. Nothing they had said was particularly life changing—or, at least, what he'd heard. Maybe he'd missed something important in his zoning out.
It was the ring's fault. He'd stared down at it, but quickly found himself compelled to play with it. It was easier to focus when he was playing with it, so he sat still and twisted it, round and round. But they had finished talking—at least, the ones up front, so he drew in a breath and forced himself to sit a little straighter. He picked up his head at least, and chewed on the inside of his cheek.
He wasn't the sort to speak up in front of a group; he didn't like the attention. He liked the back row, liked to watch and listen and learn from others. And now was no different.
He kept his lips pursed and tried to focus, but the more he was around other Knights, the more he thought about the one at his Wonder. And he might not have had any idea what to do about some guy that tried to chase you away—and for all the questions he had, he just couldn’t bring himself to ask anything.
Instead, he glanced from the Knights that had the floor, the ones asking questions, and the plaques the Cosmos Knight had mentioned earlier. Not that he knew what to do with anything, but they looked…interesting. He wanted to get a closer look—to see something so old, that withheld the test of time.
Something that had survived the Negaverse.

How many times now had he felt this same tug? This sense that there was somewhere he needed to be?
Three times he'd answered it and found himself on Mars and Mercury respectively. His trips had led to a strange adventure through a maze of tunnels that he only found out later could have killed him as it had done so many others in the complex. That was when he had started ignoring the summons.
Ys valued his own life over that of some knights he barely knew. He valued the well being of the Carnival that was the center of his existence more than the city around it. He was only one man... he couldn't keep a whole city safe and his absence was not going to make a difference. He could keep one place safe, however, so he did, and let the rest of the world take care of itself... at least until it started intruding.
Zia was gone, had been for months, and it left his boss and friend gloomy and upset, prone to tipping himself into a bottle to dull the pain. He hadn't seen Megs in that long either. The few friends he had managed to make here were slowly trickling away and he was surprised to realize he felt their loss keenly. Well, maybe not so surprised. He was a social creature by nature, but... he hadn't realized, really, how important they had been. And they made the Carnival feel... empty, somehow. Despite being filled with people.
It was that nagging little feeling that made him answer that call, that need to reach out. Maybe answering that god awful noise in his head would make it stop and, just maybe, he might get something out of it. Information was always good right?
Squire Ys's arrival on Mars was Heralded by the chiming of silver bells all over his person. Black boots sunk into the sand and light glinted off the new metal armor he worse, catching him in the face when he moved his arm the wrong way. With a grimace and a scowl, the tall man began the trudge to colluseum, there to find a gathering of knights and pair who seemed to the ones playing Teacher today.
An orange-eyed glance about didn't reveal anyone he knew terribly well... The girl in white at the podium was possibly the one he recognized best, though the guy in fur beside him was kind of familiar too. No one he had ever talked to, of course.
And there was no Meggido. No Luxor.
Uncharacteristicly, Ys hugged the outer ring and didn't push into the thick of things, leaning back against the wall in the shade of the stone while he watched and listened. The information they delivered was eye opening and he frowned at the silver ring on his hand, the purple stone in the center bearing the face of a harlequin. Zia had been with him when had gotten it, but that had honestly been the last time he'd been to his wonder. Being chased out by an angry ghost did not make him want to return to the creepy mansion overlooking the sea.
Ancestor? Was that what that had been? Whomever it was, they had not been happy to see him and the cat-girl inside. He really should make another go of it, but it just didn't appeal... he'd much rather take a look at that upgrade he'd been putting off forever, if it did as that Hvergelmir woman claimed. Much more convenient than writing notes.
The summons was an interesting concept too, and the aspect. Saturn got stealth huh? That would be cool to try out...
Hopping up onto one of the benches to a jangle of bells, Ys thumbed his ring like he'd seen the girl do. Suddenly, his form went dark and the acrobat rolled through a cartwheel, making his way down the bench with the smooth, graceful motions of a professional... all in complete silence. Not a bell rang as he moved, even as his braided hair flung the ones on its ends.
Ys was grinning as he turned on a heel and tipped into a handstand, rocking onto just one hand as he extended his legs outwards.
Yes! Now this was useful magic!

Andronicus was getting really ******** tired of the damn Code's nudging notifications. It would be one thing, if it just blipped up on the ring. She could hit ignore, she could go back to sleep, or she could, oh I don't know, not suddenly vanish from her job because an incorporeal piece of paper demanded her attention. The Uranus squire stood in the back, arms crossed, and hair pulled into a tight bun on the back of her head.
In fact, save the uniform, it almost looked like she'd been getting ready for some sort of... performance or rehearsal. Stage makeup covered her face, there was enough hairspray in her hair to keep it intact in case a sandstorm hit, and extra decorations (that had somehow known to change to Uranus-themed objects) adorned her head. Her mouth drew into a thin line and she almost ported the hell out of there once opening words were finished.
Almost.
It had been voluntary (kind of), and technically she didn't have to be at rehearsal for four hours. Something in her told her to stay, to watch, to listen, and to see the climate of the knights in a setting that wasn't Mistral giving out upgrades or death traps. Maybe it was her being distrustful, or her skepticism of the Code itself, but she felt a need to observe.
She didn't care about the 'Academy'. Give it to Negaverse, let them keep their Rift and keep it out of the city. Heraldry, coats of arms, it wasn't going to help them keep the cosmos in peace. Andronicus saw it as frivolous, as unnecessary, when real problems exposed themselves.
Then again, it was just like a villain mastermind to distract people from the real issue with other things. She eyed the Code, wary of its continued presence in any meeting. And the lack of weaponry sent warning bells off in her head.
An actual overview of knight information was nice, though.

He had not intended on talking to anyone - he never did these days - but the sound of a quiet voice next to him made him jump, the golden coins on Celsus' uniform jangling noisily. He glanced around wildly, but the source of the voice was merely a young man standing beside him, looking at him with a bottle of water extended outwards.
Calm down, Celsus. It would not do to act so irrationally.
A smile eased its way across his face, if not a little bit forced. "Thank you," said Celsus, and reached out, pulling the bottle into his own hand. He didn't drink it, however, instead just absently turning it over in his hands, his chest tightening as he watched the others.
"You been a knight for long?" he asked.

kuropeco trying to tag on phone. Pardon any issues. Havasu smuthered a snicker when the other knight jumped at his voice. He covered the amusement with a cough and focused on the crowd of Knights but turned back towards the knight when he took the offered water. "As a squire? Not long. As a powered yahoo?...." He shrugged and tried to explain. "I awoke like three years ago but took like a year to realize this crap was real." He gestured to the crowd with his bottle before opening it with a sharp twist of his wrist. After taking a swig he capped it and asked, "you? This 'for dummies' lesson seems a bit below your level." Havasu smiled and shrugged, "then again I didn't even know about the whole ring upgrade till the last time the code called us here."

Dominic was on his way home on his bike when he got the call. Obviously it was a little unsafe to just let himself vanish into thin air while moving at 40mph, so he wound up driving the rest of the way home before letting himself get whisked away yet again by the Code. It was no surprise to him when he opened his eyes and found himself faced with the sight of Olympus again; however wary he was about picking up where he'd left off as a knight before the February fiasco, a small smile had settled about his expression and he walked on inside. On the stage were two knights he recognized but wasn't personally acquainted with, but he helped himself to a handful of granola bars and two bottles of water before he took a seat in the back and munched away.
Ashur laughed and groaned on cue at the various jokes and such that were tossed about the room throughout the lecture, an abundance of questions rising up in him as they explained several aspects of knighthood he'd never been familiar with. With the information being practically thrown at him it was hard to believe he'd been a knight for a whole two years already and knew so...little...about it.
No wonder he'd been frustrated.
When the forum was open for questions he dusted off the remnants of granola on his hands and off of his face, took a swig of water and raised his hands.
"I've got a question, kinda a follow-up to that first one," he said, then cleared his throat a bit so he was sure everyone could hear him clearly. "I mean I've been to my Wonder and all, and I gotta say...there's a whole lot of nothing out there. Aside from my ancestor it's basically just an empty city full of buildings not unlike this one. Are we basically just...I dunno, expected to visit and keep our ancestor--if we've got one stuck there--from getting lonely?"

Hvergelmir considered this question. "When I first visited my Wonder," she said, "it was covered in gigantic layers of dust. I don't have any ancestor to guide me when I'm there, but it seemed to me that I might as well try to clean the place up. Your Wonder may not seem like much, but something made it special -- something gave it power and worth. I wouldn't be so sure that there's nothing there worth seeing or learning.
"Remember that, as far as we know, your ancestor is not there by accident. They lingered on, at your Wonder, waiting for you -- and they've waited a thousand years, now. They weren't waiting for you to come help them, to keep them company -- they were waiting to help you. For those of you who are reincarnated, like I am, regular visits to your Wonder can be important because they're our only known way of recovering memories about our prior lives -- and those can be valuable. But for descendant knights, like you, your ancestor is your memory keeper.
"You're also the only person -- aside from whatever prince or princess shares domain over whatever larger world your Wonder resides in -- who has access to that ancestor, or that Wonder. If there's information that only your ancestor holds, you're the only person who can possibly bring that information back to the world. If there's something of value at your Wonder -- a relic, an artifact, a tool -- no one else can reach it but you. None of us will ever benefit from it without you.
"If your Wonder was a city flourishing at the bottom of an ocean, or in the middle of a desert, or high among the clouds -- ask yourself how. And then ask your ancestor how. There might be some answer there worth knowing -- something that might benefit the world, even if it doesn't benefit the war." She shrugged. "What you do with your own Wonder is up to you. Obviously we hope you'll make the most of it -- but each person makes their own choice."

Mont Blonc was torn on answering the pull to Olympus, although for a whole different reason than he'd been the last time. He knew this time, at least, that he was bound to see at least one familiar face there, and that was reassuring - and even if he'd ended up mentally exhausted after the last visit with all the new people he'd met, the squire still ultimately felt it was worth the energy expended to meet the people he had and to take in what there was to be said.
This time, it was more his body's limitations than his ever-present anxiety that was the thing holding him back. The bandages around his head were the most visible, the blow having thankfully landed across his hairline rather than his face, although it hurt no less for it. His hand, too, the left one, it was also bound and bandaged, and the way it vanished up into his ruffled sleeve gave no indication as to how far up it went.
The way he moved was less subtle, stiff and stilted, strain etched clearly across his face no matter how he tried to mask it with a subtle, soft smile.
In spite of that, he was instantly glad he'd come - not just for the information, but already, he'd spied not one but two Saturn knights he did not recognize. Before the meeting was through, he thought to himself with determination, Mont Blonc wanted - needed to seek them out and introduce himself.
Neither seemed particularly engaged in conversation with anyone else, although one seemed to be playing with aspected magic - which was good to see - and so Mont Blonc zeroed in on the other, a page by the feel of it, sitting alone.
He passed by Celsus on the way, though, and if he hadn't been in the midst of talking to someone, he probably would've approached him right then and there. Instead, he simply passed his friend a wave, a smile, and a very concerned look in passing. Mentally, he made a note that it would not just be fellow knights of Saturn he'd be approaching tonight.
He resisted a wince that was nothing to do with his wounds at Hvergelmir's words about her wonder, and about wonders as a whole. It wasn't the first time he'd felt guilty about his relationship to his wonder, or his lack of one. It was something he knew he had to amend, he knew that, just - god, if things would just stop for awhile -
Shaking his thoughts aside, he settled down neatly beside the page of Saturn, tucking his hands neatly into his lap and flashing Aaru a smile. "Hello, " he greeted softly, "I've not, uhm, seen you before - I'm Mont Blonc, squire of - well, you can probably guess. And you are?" His voice was soft and gentle, and he was fidgeting idly with his bandages as he spoke.

Powered yahoo?
Celsus mulled over this phrase in his head briefly, turning it over and twisting it until it didn't make any sense anymore, and the syllables fell away into nothingness. He offered the young man a slightly bemused look, still fiddling with the water bottle without actually opening it, and eased out a sound that was something like a sigh.
"Ah - well, yes," said Celsus, flashing him a quick smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "I've been awake for the better part of four and a half years by now, though sometimes it seems like much longer. Or maybe much less, depending on the day."
It was true that he did know most of what was being spoken already, though Celsus didn't find it "for dummies." Maybe if someone had told him what he was doing in the beginning like this, he wouldn't be where he was today. Maybe if the damned Code had given him any sort of guidance whatsoever, or if the people he had surrounded himself with had not disappeared because of him then maybe - maybe -
Celsus pushed the thoughts away, blinking rapidly.
"It's good there are people who are willing to teach others," he said, forcing the smile back onto his face. "It wasn't like that when I first awoke, there weren't many of us."
He saw the familiar face of Mont Blonc passing through, and though Celsus gave him a nod, it was somewhat strained, his eyes darting from the dark haired knight to the woman with the pale hair, the one that was called Hvergelmir. A question burned at the back of his throat like acid, but asking it would just mean the reiteration of things he knew already; a confirmation of his lack of abilities.
It was a mistake. You should never have been chosen.
You should not have awakened.
Celsus cleared his throat. "What's your name?" he asked the young man instead, returning his attention to him. "I'm Celsus, of Chronos."

This was a surprise... He didn't expect anyone to talk to him at this event. And while that normally would've bothered him [he was used to being the center of attention at most gatherings], it was strangely relieving to just sit back and observe while he learned. Apparently that wasn't to be the case when some one that was obviously a saturn knight, came up and sat next to him like he wouldn't be angry or weireded out, which he was neither...But still, did he come off as friendly? Probably. Besides the other knight looked adorable in a way despite the bandages, so there was that too. "Sup? Im Aaru, page of the same planet~ Nice to meet you Blonc! How long have you been a squire?" Aaru's attention was drawn to the bandages, a bit of concern shown on his face. He wanted to ask where the injuries came from, but something was telling him that now wasn't the time, so he just settled for idle conversation. He really needed to make new knight buddies after all...Oh was that Ashur?! Well, a familiar face! Awesome! He'd have to go say hello later if he can catch the Uranus knight in time. Maybe Erebus was here too? That would be nice... _ p a o cx Noticing u Ashur, for Aaru is ALWAYS watching 8D

Isaiah was fully intent on reveling in his misery, with Tastykake for his companion, and a pint of ice cream for him alone while he sat through every last rerun of old Spanish soap operas. He didn't care that he knew nothing of the language, and he didn't care that he hadn't shaved in a week, and he didn't care that his hair grew out now and his roots were showing. He didn't care because Kam didn't care, or Kam simply didn't know what to do with him now.
Not that he cared.
But Olympus called yet again, in its grating voice, thus interrupting one of the most poignantly delivered lines in the current 80s soap opera that showed on Telemundo. Instead he tried to ignore it. But the Code had a habit of repeating itself, he learned, and that regardless of how well he tried to smother out the voice resonating in his head, it would persist until its demands were met. So when Isaiah finally sat up and thrust the spoon back into the carton of ice cream, he shot Tastykake a reproachful glare (which she returned in catlike spades). And then he decided, as he watched his cat slink from the couch to disappear beneath it, that he would respond just this once. He would obey just this once, fulfill whichever banal meeting required of him, and go back to his newfound sedentary lifestyle.
And when Isaiah powered up into Scholomance and obeyed the chiming voice, he was taken back to Olympus in its desolate, sandy austerity. He saw many knights as he had before, with a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces, yet at the podium this time stood not his ‘wife’, but Babylon and Hvergelmir (who, he supposed, must be husband and wife now). Slightly late as he was (for they already ventured into their talks), Scholomance found a seat markedly distant from the rest of the gathered populace. He sat on the warmed, sturdy stone bench without much thought of it. Luckily he hadn’t yet spotted Mont Blonc, for which he was slightly glad - and Gehenna wasn’t here either. His miseries could be his own today.
So he remained, and listened to the jingle of restless knights coupled with bad jokes from the crowd. He listened to Hvergelmir and Babylon go on about aspects (which he now knew more about), and magic, and summons. He learned of the opposing factions in a way less colored by Hvergelmir’s personal opinion. He learned that Blaine might simply find him the most atrocious knight in Scholomance’s long history of atrocious knights. But, of all their points, there stood one that Scholomance had never even heard of before - a place called the Academy. And while he looked at the stall plates rescued from the depths of the Negaverse, he realized that none looked familiar to him - none were his own. And, perhaps, that was fine. Maybe his was elsewhere.
But what was such a relic of the knights doing in the bowels of the Negaverse? He considered asking, then he considered the lot of knights around asking further questions of Hvergelmir and Babylon, then decided against it. Whatever he had to say - whatever he had to ask - what worth was it now?
It all comes back to corrupt or die, he reminded himself with a sigh.

Havasu picked up on both the quizzical look and the smile not reaching his companion's eyes. He was use to the confused look but the smile thing had him wonder just what the knight standing next to him had seen and done for the last few years to look like that. Havasu himself found that he was spending his spare time doing more exciting things or spending time with his friends, trying to center himself after each night of paroling that ended in a fight. Anything to prove that he was still himself. The squire nodded and added, "Normally less when something goes spectacularly wrong. You think you get a handle on this knight thing and something or someone comes to prove you wrong." He knew this feeling quite well since it was why he was now a squire. The cowboy sipped his water and watched as more people started to ask questions and talk among themselves, "It sure would have helped me." The comment was said quietly and with an air of sadness. How many people would have been better off if only Havasu had actually known what he was doing? "You didn't have the senshi to help?" He tossed a quizzical look at the knight. He and Phact didn't work together all the time but they did help each other out a lot, even before they started to date, so it seemed odd to him that knights didn't work with senshi. Havasu absently played with the bottle in his hand, watching as the water sloshed back and forth from the cap to the base and back, it was tempting to ask where the knight had gone mentally but everyone deserved their own thoughts. Besides the knight cleared his throat and introduced himself. "Havasu. Havasu Falls of Pluto. Chronos hun? Can't say as I've ever met a knight of Chronos. Granola Bar to wash down the water you haven't opened yet?" He fished out one of bars he had picked up earlier and offered it with a cheeky smile hoping to get a laugh or something out of Celsus. He seemed like something was weighing on his shoulders and Havasu didn't mean the knights cape, tho he did mentally wonder how much those shoulder pads weighed.

She'd been tempted to not go. Sorely tempted. Painfully tempted. Her skin prickled and her hackles rose when she felt the call of the Code. If there was a way to explicitly state go ******** yourself to the Code, she'd have done it.
Violently. Explosively. With lights and thunder and the whole freaking shebang.
But such was not her option. So she... went. Eventually. It felt calming--slightly...--to be on Martian soil. The red sand got into her sandals and she didn't mind the feel. The sun warmed her exposed skin and she breathed in the air of her old homeworld.
This was the second time she'd powered up in... a very long time. She glimpsed faces she hadn't seen--at least powered--in months, and a part of her.... relaxed. A hand lingered on the golden chain at her hip, playing with the slender links as she made her way through the rows. Though she did meander up to grab a water bottle. She'd just finished grabbing a meal at a cafe before being summoned, so food wasn't a necessity at the moment. Water on Mars though? Totally happy to grab it.
Too bad they couldn't post images online. HEY NASA. WE BEAT YOU TO THE WATER. Actually. They kinda beat NASA at a lot. She was still half-expecting one of the Martian knights to start sending around images of themselves with the probes in the background or something.
Her head in the clouds, she meandered up through the benches till a familiar Earth knight caught her attention. She grinned. Last time she'd seen him, he'd been a Page. But there he was, a Squire. Hopping up a few levels, the armor-clad Martian flopped down on the bench beside him, clapping her back across his back.
"Newgrange! Look at you!" Her voice was light and chipper, holding none of the unease and seething rage she held within. "How've you been? Looks like you've at least been keeping alive. Been working on that fighting at all?" She wanted distractions right now. And to not look at the Code.
She didn't want to look anywhere near the Code...
...or she'd probably go down there and start picking a fight with the ******** thing...

He wanted to say he was getting used to getting pinged with a summon to go to Olympus, but that, in his estimation, was sort of like saying you were getting accustomed to a Telemarketer. This time though he could almost see the point, even if he wasn't entirely sure he'd take lessons from someone who he still hadn't quite gotten over side eyeing for a list of behaviors including 'why did you try and cram two star-seeds into a single star-seed space' and 'you lied to the group and got someone killed and also you kissed me when dosed on some kind of Mercury-manufactured-aphrodisiac-powder. But it was a primer, and one he knew any number of the faces in this crowd might need, even if he'd bumped and banged his way into learning much of it already, and he refrained from interrupting the bit about 'your ancestor is a wealth of knowledge', with quips about how he'd met himself and he was pretty sure he wasn't. (Besides, Hver had covered the reincarnated bit pretty well.) He thought he saw a few faces he recognized, and shot an amused look at the water, wondering what NASA would think if they found not just water on Mars (He wondered if it had been found in someone's wonder, or near it...) if the discovery was followed by finding bottled water. Probably not though. Magic and all that. For all he could tell they could strap bunny ears on the rover and not be caught. There was Themi though, and that was in and of itself a breath of fresh air, at least he assumed she was done picking on him for getting scratched up by CInnabar. That was one plus to powering up, no one knew your room mate had replaced all the band aids with sparkly pony band aids. He picked his way toward the other Mars Knight and the Earth Knight she was chatting with, reaching out to tap her on the shoulder and offering a joke. "Next time we should stock up and bring some beer. If International waters are safe territory for nonsense I think we'd be safe on another planet..."

Newgrange blinked when Themiscyra flopped next to him, and even managed to flash her a quick smile. "Working on it," he assured her, even as he eyed the Knight who approached. He couldn’t comfortably say that he was familiar with him, but he nodded and offered a quick wave to the stranger.
While he wasn't much for drinking himself, he could certainly see the appeal of having a few around for things like this. Olympus made him uneasy, and maybe it was just his own paranoia but he was an Earth Knight. He belonged on Earth.
Arguably these Mars Knights probably felt right at home, but they had the luxury of attachment to both Earth and Mars.
Newgrange didn't know if he'd ever got used to this whole thing, but…
Maybe one of these days he'd settle in.
At the very least, it was good to see a friendly face.
