Let me tell you a story: Tree Crane Crumble Not the best story teller unless it was about himself, Blue Blood figured it was worth a shot. "Hrm... Have you knowledge of why the cliff side weakens and falls apart after the first thaw?" He motioned to a distant ledge. "It's due to tree roots rotting from the cold, and when cranes, hawks, bird return for spring, they gather on the tree, sending them down. At least, thats what happened to the one near my home a few winters back."

"Me?" grinned Wild Green Stones. "Yes, I've got plenty of stories about my personal heroism!"
Let me tell you a story: river, acha, swim
They were probably all lies, but Death Brings Change didn't know that. "Once I was just walking along a river bank, minding my own damn business. But then this acha came by - you know, they've never seen water in their lives, or something. And he was just - being pulled along by the current, ya know?" Wild Green Stones shook his head. "Awful swimmer. Awful. Well, you know me - I was the generous guy. I pulled him out. Maybe scratched his leg a little - a bit more than - a lot, okay, on the way out. But I was definitely the hero. Apparently he was running from a dragon."
Yes, dragons were small, but - but that didn't matter, right?

Let me tell you a story: Twig, Songbird, Crumble In an action that would surprise absolutely nobody, Watch Me had abandoned his own booth in order to chase a fine looking Acha through the busy winter market, leaving Prize alone (give your pity to those kin given performance prompts from an unhappy Prize). He’d lost his quarry but stumbled across the story telling area instead, something he was absolutely certain he was good at. He made up the story to plays all the time! “Oh, a personal, hm? Well, let me think.” The Kiokote stood proud, eyes squinted in thought. “Ah, yes! Of course. Gather around!” He looked around, as if expecting a group to have already settled in to hear him talk and seemed disappointed when there wasn’t one. “I’ll begin anyway. This is a while back now, when I first came to the swamp. I’d just arrived and I was glad to be away from the plains. Horrible place. Well, one day as I was walking along I heard the distinct snap of a twig. Hello, I cried! But there was no answer, then up I looked and there sat a songbird. It was beautiful creature and I tried to befriend it, mimicking its song. It was a rather silly bird however and it flew away. When I followed I wasn’t quite paying attention to where I was going and oh it’s just a small detail but I was next to a river bank and it might have crumbled underneath me. I plunged into the water and was saved by the most magnificent creature in all the land. An Acha so sublime I-“ “Watch Me!” “Never mind, I have to go. Toodle-oo!” The Kiokote returned sheepishly back to his booth under Prize’s frowning gaze.

20 DecemberLet me tell you a story: ( Tree ), ( Songbird ), ( Burp (eeew) )
Whispers Softly likes to tell stories for any kin that has the time to stand still long enough to hear the end of it. She started off with a whisper and made her voice sound clearer as the story went on..
"Let me tell you a story," she started, and watched you with careful eyes. "When I was out with Endless Climb, we passed by groves and shrubs to get into our secret meeting place surrounded by trees. It was called a secret for a reason since they always send my little brother after me to follow me around like a shadow. Everyone knows I cannot stay away from Endless. He is my soul mate, my love, my everything..." She blushed a little but remained calm and full of love.
"Last year, I gave Fly to You to always watch over my darling when I am not around. When we made it to our secret place to get away from everyone, we laid low between the grass gazing at the stars until I started to hum a tune following the one our little songbird began to sang. It went well and it sounded lovely. Because the mood was so lovely that night, I thought asking Endless to hum along with us would make the evening even better before we parted again for a short while, and sneaking out later to see each other again. I looked at him and and asked him to sing along. He nodded in agreement, smiling at us and all, and when he opened his mouth to join in, the loudest burp came out and ruined the moment..." and she gave a nervous laugh. "We spent the remainder of the night in silence.
The end."

Let me tell you a story: Berry, Kiokote (m), disgust A personal story, was it? This would be a treat. Streams of Silver smiled. "I suppose I should tell you, then, about the first time I met a Kiokote– he was a buck, newly come to the Swamp because of the terrible flooding. He gawped at me for a little– he was sunstruck– and then tried his best to hunt, but the waters were bogging him down and he could barely find his footing, let alone catch anything.
"I tried to offer him help– but he refused, and found himself to a bush of berries, helping himself to some with a declaration that he didn't need a doe to hunt for his supper– and found himself to be sick on them, because they were far from ripe. Eventually, he consented to share the dinner I caught, and we shared stories with each other. He left without so much as a goodbye, and never offered a word of thanks... probably to save his pride."

Let me tell you a story: lightening/lightning (not sure which one you meant lol), sand dog, tremble
"Oh," said Lily. "This one's easy."
She smiled. "Sorry, I'm not much of a storyteller, but, you know - some things just happen, right? My sister and I had only recently arrived to the swamp. This was back when my sand dog was still alive - you know, their lives are so short compared to kins'. And there was a thunderstorm, and of course there was lightning. Well, we'd never seen anything like it - and we didn't understand that we were supposed to lower ourselves. Fortunately there's trees here - but a bolt of lightning hit a tree - just over there." She looked over her shoulder, as if imagining it. "That way. Compared to my body, I mean. And my sand dog screamed, and she wouldn't stop trembling until the sky had lightened up and there was light again. Even though we did find shelter, in a cave. Poor baby," she said, shaking her head.
"Thanks for listening!" she added, with a nod.

"Have I," began First to Strike, "got a story for you."
Let me tell you a story: sun, female zikwa, cold
"So I was wandering around with Grumble - as I am wont to do, ya know, I'm just that kinda guy - on a nice, sunny day. That part's normal." He shook his head. "Then this zikwa jumped at me, and I was like woah, and I stepped on Grumble's paw! I had to find him so many berries to make up for it. It was the worst. The. Worst. The worst part is? The only thing she said was that winter was coming! Of course winter was coming - it was cold!"

21 DecemberLet me tell you a story: ( Thunder ), ( Giant Spider ), ( Cold ) A zikwa with glowing eyes crawled out of the earth, having heard enough stories down below, began to speak to Death Brings Change.
"Let me tell you a story of the tragic death of a giant spider.
The seasons changed and the weather dropped in temperature. One day, this giant spider complained to his wife how cold he was and she said to simply knit something to wear with those legs of his. He refused and whined about the weather and wanted to be warm.
Up ahead the thunder rolled in followed by lightning. The giant spider was still being a big baby and his wife simply replied: 'Dear, do something about it, whining gets you nowhere.'
A bit stuck-up and upset that his wife did not pamper him in warmth. He walked outside of hiding and complained to the sky. 'Why won't you warm me up!' he shouted, raising two angry legs into the air.
At that moment, a roaring crackle was heard and the giant spider was hit by lightning, burnt to a crisp, instantly dead.
What happened after? Well I don't know where his wife may be today, but he sure was a delicious warm snack for me," said Empty Promises showing a veryyy creepy smile.

"Any genre?" asked First to Strike.
Unfortunately for Death Brings Change, First to Strike definitely had a go-to genre. And it wasn't one that was very interesting, for most kin. Or very applicable to any of the genres that the zikwa was offering.
Let me tell you a story: moon, male acha, hate
"...Grumble hasn't met any male acha, I think," said First to Strike, confused. "Oh! Have I introduced Grumble? This is Grumble. He's a minibear. And a great bro." Wait - hm. Had there been any male achas running booths? He sat and thought for a while, before - "Oh!" It looked almost like First to Strike's tail was wagging. But he wasn't a dog. "There's this buck, with rocks that you're supposed to hit! Grumble kinda liked him. His flat spider silk things were fun. And I was playing his game in the moonlight. That counts, right? Um...hate...I hate that he only ever gives me one token. I mean, come on!"
There was a pause. "That was a story, right? Grumble didn't feature too prominently...sorry about that!"

23 DecemberLet me tell you a story: ( Clouds ), ( female Acha ), ( Hate ) The same zikwa that showed up a while ago crawled above ground again as he had yet another story to tell.
"Have you heard of a story of the acha who hated clouds?" he asked Death Brings Change, not really waiting for an answer or response.
The girly acha loved sunshines and rainbows but whenever the sky became cloudy, she would turn angry and start screaming at the sky to make the clouds go away.
Sometimes when she knew that she could not win, well she would simply dig a long tunnel like hole and hide in there until the clouds have passed. It was strange for most days were full of clouds and she would starve herself, refusing to witness the things in the sky.
That's when I come in. I would look for her and feed her grubs and mushrooms. If she died, well, the caveworms would have a feast down below where I live..."

Soothe was not the greatest of storytellers, but she had a lot of things to say about, um, cranes. And healing. She didn't have very much time, though, so she stuck with a true story.
Let me tell you a story: ran, giant wasp, hate
"I'm not sure what it is about this market," she began, shaking her head. "But there's this booth - I'm sure you've seen it?" Actually, she wasn't sure whether the zikwa had been exploring. "It's, um, an animal sparring booth." She waited for the zikwa to respond - weren't stories the best when they were interactive? She certainly thought so. "I don't know - there's a legendary watching to be sure there's no serious harm. But some kin...I think some kin just hate animals, or something. It's awful. They have - they've got eight of them. And one of them is a giant wasp! That one's fine, I think - I'm glad she has an exoskeleton. But someone was just awful to the caiman, and the eaglehound. And someone else stomped on a swan's neck. I don't know what to say. When I heard about it, I had to run over." She'd been trying to nurse them back to health ever since - although she'd refused to participate in rounding up more of them for that torture. "I think...sorry, I guess there wasn't much of a plot to that. But I'm looking after some of their animals, now, so that's a good thing. As for those kin...well, I'm not sure if they're going to be invited back, to be honest."
She was certainly glad of that, even if Death Brings Change didn't seem to care.

stars, Kimeti (m), Crumble
Rumbling in thought, Breaks Bones thought long and hard about how to explain a story with what he was given. Then he thought of something simple.
"Do you know why buck kimeti do not sparkle like stars unlike the does?" He asked, snickering. "Because if they tried to be just as beautiful they would crumple under the knowledge that they'd never be as bright at their counterparts!" He gave a deep laugh as if it was such a wonderful joke of a story. "Thats just how the Motherfather made them! Does always sparkle likes stars, bucks just kinda... eh."
"Eh."

Let me tell you a story: Leech, Songbird, Hot "Oh, this is a tale I know very well," Rob said, folding her hooves, one right over the other.
"Once, there was a pretty, naive little doe with a pretty, sweet little voice. Whoever saw her, loved her. Whoever heard her piled gifts at her hooves. She was not only fair, but kind. She used gifts of grass and berries to bake sweet treats for foals and the other creatures of the swamp, and was well known for her charity.
But these sorts always attract other, wretched individuals who are not fair, kind, or naive. And this other, wretched fellow burned in his want of her.
She, however, did not burn for him.
Kindness can overcome many things, but not often evil. When he at last killed her, all of her fairness became rot: like him. All of her kindness was extinguished: like him. But not all things can be destroyed so easily. Those who had loved her did not forget. They piled their gifts at her resting place, and the love for her only increased.
When he went to his grave, it was a lonely place.
To have something good is to be envied by those without.
Those who live in light may still die in shadows."
Rob stretched, "not a nice story," she said, "but that one seldom is. Me, I only take what I'm given, and don't reach beyond my means." She smiled a little sharply, and took a token for her trouble.

Let me tell you a story: sun, male zikwa, burp
"What'm I choosing?" mumbled Whistle blearily. He'd much rather be with his home tribe, in all honesty - but, well. He wasn't, was he? Well, maybe this was a learning experience.
Actually, if it was a story - maybe the zikwa wouldn't mind a bedtime story?
But he couldn't really think of one that fit the, uh, themes. "Um - so. There once was a very punctual zikwa. He was sweet, dependable, and loved the ancient tradition of passing on lore. Every morning he woke with the sun and walked through the caves to seek out answers, and every sunset he went to sleep again - even when he could not see that the sun was setting. But it was the only thing he knew how to do. Certainly, he could forage and eat and drink - but he never did anything for himself. It was always the work, and learning new stories, and remembering them, and passing them on. He was a very dull zikwa."
"Once, he'd been set the task of helping a brood mother teach her children the tale of the MotherFather and their eggs. He told it with great gravitas, of course, but the next day, none of the foals remembered a whit of it. So he did it again, telling the story exactly as he'd first heard it - preserving every bit of authenticity.
"Of course, his retelling was still a bit dull. The foals fell asleep, or decided to play while he droned on and on. The next day, he still could not remember it.
"Well, of course he told the story again! But he was very unfortunate: just before visiting the foals, he ingested a large meal in preparation. Just as he got to the crane's hatching - well. He couldn't help it! He burped.
"But that was the catalyst, see. The foals all sat up and paid attention - and the next day, perhaps they couldn't have recited it verbatim. But they all remembered the eggs hatching.
"Thus, the zikwa learned the value of spontaneity."
