Listening to the other he watched him write and nodded slowly as the other explained. he'd done well but he had slipped up a little bit, he knew he hadn't gotten it perfect though. When Arian went over B and P and the sound from each he did note the differences but could he produce the sounds for each and separate them?
Well he did have to try, no point in not trying as that would go against why he was even here. When he tried it again, taking his time to separate the word by it's syllables he was able to better sound the b out but still not just right - but better. He would have tried again had the other not moved on to what he also needed, and wanted, to know. When to use which sentence.
Ok, so informal but not as informal as he'd have thought and treated it as. He could use it with family - ok. That worked and the other was strangers and older. He understood that. They weren't as strict in things here, he'd found that out and still was, so to hear this backed that up. He wondered if his sister and cousin knew this, if not they'd be finding out of course. Anything he learned he told them and vice versa, they were helping each other as they learned something new.
he was learning a lot in school but only things which helped in his classes, nothing which helped outside of that - nothing that wasn't relevant. So he understood the others words and explanation, the words he said, as he heard them all day as various questions of his were answered and he was told how to use different words and sentences. He knew he'd be hearing these words and similar ones often as he was told when and how things were used and he was fine with it.

Arian hadn't been sure if his attempts to try and explain the difference between 'p' and 'b' had been clear enough, however Seung had nodded slowly during his explanation and when he had tried sounding out the word library again the 'b' had sounded more like a b even if the word still didn't sound quite right.
Arian was pretty sure that with a bit more practice Seung would get it as - at least from what little he had seen so far - the other was really working hard at studying English.
He hadn't realised that Seung wanted to practice a bit more because if he had then Arian would have held off on answering the other's other question in order to give him the opportunity to do so and as Seung hadn't said anything it meant that the other had managed to miss the flustered apology that he would have given.
Instead he waited to see if Seung had any other questions on what they were currently looking at - and/ or anything he had said so far - after all these lessons were at the end of the day for the other's benefit and Arian wanted to make sure to do a good job.
If he was going to be living here, which he was, he needed to get the language right and learn it. It was that and his usual habit for studying which drove him and had him trying his best here and elsewhere where he was working on his English skills. He had to learn it, where as back home he needed it for his exams in high school and that was it. Here he needed it to simply get around and just - live. So he was throwing himself into it was he tried and hoped to do better, he hoped to push himself like he had back in school with all his subjects. It was why he was trying to force the odd sounds from his mouth, and to mimic the other.
He was also a fast learner, good at copying and just learning something by mimicking he was good at copying things and repeating things. It was the same with other subjects, it was how he and his fellow classmates had all been taught. You went down a list and memorized it and that was how it was, that was how something was done and how you learned it. Some may think it a bad method to learn, or that it wasn't quiet learning but it was as far as he was concerned.
"Manners...proper manners...used more with strange people and older, but no family even if older or friend?" He asked, wanting to know if it allied to things in general. "Is general rule?" He asked wanting to make the question clear on what he meant.

Arian considered Seung's question for a moment and then nodded "As a general rule yes that's correct" he said. "You will want to be more formal with those who are older and strangers to you and more casual with those who are younger or with family and friends."
He continued "Not everyone does" because there were people who tended to be casual with everyone, just as there were others who tended to be formally polite all the time. "However whilst it's okay to be casual with those you know or with those who are your age or younger it is generally more polite to be formal with those who are older and strangers." Well at least from his viewpoint it was.
Nodding at the confirmation to what seemed to be how things worked here, which was slightly different from back home, he understood it and would keep it in mind when dealing with people. It hadn't come up in school as it didn't need to, respect was always granted to a teacher and not so much to a classmate. Since they were in the same grade and about the same age he didn't show the respect to his classmates. Had he younger or older classmates it might have come up, he might have asked, but that hadn't been the case.
"Thank you, that will help. Is a bit different back home." But here it was looser and a bit more lax and that wasn't so bad, especially as he was learning things it gave him a bit more freedom.
"Next place?" He asked looking at the other and wanting to continue with locations, as he was likely to need those words at some point in the near future.

Arian looked at the list "The next one is drugstore" he said, making sure to carefully pronounce it as he had with the word library.
And then as the term had confused him when he had first moved to the States, he continued. "It's kind of like a chemist's or a pharmacy." Again he made sure to enunciate the alternative words. "You can get two types medication there - prescription medication and also 'over the counter' medication and they also sell more general things - like magazines and sweets."
He paused to see if Seung wanted him to go into any further detail or explain further.

I am kind of going on wiki's description of a drugstore so lmk if I need to tweak this Sleet
Drugstore...that was a word he hadn't heard yet, though he supposed he must not have needed to? Hearing the other pronounce it, carefully, he nodded slowly and made to repeat it. He was slower than the other but he tried his best especially with the r, as he had a habit of his sounding a bit like l's at times. He wasn't too bad, an accent yes but he didn't butcher the word. When he heard what the other called it he nodded his head. His father had talked about a pharmacy, he'd had to go to one soon after they'd moved here, and so he knew that word and knew what it was in his own language so he knew what hey were talking about.
"Is...pharmacy back home." Here he wasn't as careful and did slip a bit on the word but he had at least told the other what term he knew and used. The explanation of what they carried he didn't get fully but he already knew what these sorts of places carried, at least he thought so.
Since they were on the topic of a pharmacy he did wonder if there was anything he needed to ask about it, anything he might need to learn to ask at one. Taking the time to think he finally came up with nothing, though he was sure he'd wind up thinking of something later, and nodded his head. "Can continue." He said after a moment.

That's fine. I had to check up on a Korean one also. ::Nods:: which term is used for one and such. But yeah you got it right. Some I know sell other things also, soda, paper towels, beer, hair care products, makeup, and other things.

Arian nodded and continued to work through the list that he had jotted down taking care to carefully pronounce each word - well at least as carefully as he could - and sound out the syllables.
A couple of times Arian had also added in a brief description as he had done with the word drugstore, as well as any alternative names that he knew off, however for the most part he had taken his cue from Seung as to what to go into detail on - well at least he had tried to.
He had also mentally made notes noticing that in addition to the p versus b that he had mentioned earlier, that the other also had a tendency to sometimes mix up the letter r with the letter l and as he had done earlier had done his best to sound out the differences between the two letters.
The list hadn't been the longest one however and so it was with a mental start that Arian realised that there were only a few words remaining.
"I know that there's only a few words left, but would you mind if we take a short break so I can get a drink?" He asked because he hadn't realised just how thirsty talking for so long would make him.
The fact the other was taking the time to go slow, to pronounce each syllable, was appreciated by Seung as he had taken notice of it. It helped a lot as he could do it slowly and break it down himself, knew how it was broken down, and it allowed him to work on each part to try and get it right. He wasn't perfect, by any means, but he wasn't terrible either. There were slips, as there were bound to be, but he was learning the words and learning what some of the places were.
He did have input as well though, pointing out where he was lost or wanted to know more - where he needed clarification on what something was. He was going to help with his education as much as he could, plus it helped the other to help him better.
Nodding he motioned for the other to do so, also surprised by how long they'd been here and how busy they'd been. "Yes, I can be paying." He offered quickly, since the other was here and helping by his request...even if he was paying the other it was still because he had called and asked.

"Thank you" Arian said as he stood up, realising belatedly that he felt a little stiff too - although the walk over to and then back from the counter would probably help with that a little.
"And also thank you for the offer, but I'm okay." It wasn't that Arian didn't appreciate the gesture - because he did and hence his quiet thank you. However Seung was already paying him for the lesson and Arian didn't want to make the other feel like he had to buy him a drink. "I'll be back in a few moments." a pause as he added "Would you like something to drink too?" Because after all Seung had been at it for the same length of time as him and Arian knew that he could just as well pick up two drinks.
