Araceli frowned and eyed Detraeus for a moment before closing her eyes and shaking her head. “No...I meant it when it was said all those years ago...and it still holds true. I would never get rid of a child. I just…” She chewed on her bottom lip and sighed. “This is not your fault.” She paused a moment, eyebrow raising as she glanced back to him. “Well, it kind of is...but it’s mine too. We both should have been more careful.” She didn’t hesitate to move back towards him, tucking her body close against Detra’s and laying her forehead against his shoulder. “You really want this?”

Detraeus eyed her, tail flicking and then eyebrows raising as she said it was not ‘his’ fault. It had best be his fault. The alternative was unacceptable. After she finished, though, he grunted.
“I…had not said, but…” His lashes flicked low, gaze angled to her belly. Words occurred to him — ‘The thought is appealing…’ ‘I would not mind another…’ ‘I could grow used to the idea again…’ — but none seemed right. None as fitting as the truth. So instead he said simply, “Yes. There are few things I want more…” His gaze flicked up again, to hers. “But your happiness is one such thing. It is first. What would you have us do?”

Araceli opened her mouth, frowned, and closed it. What did she want to do? Rewinding time might of been a good option — had it been an available one. It wasn’t that she disliked children now. If she’d been younger she would have been ecstatic about the prospect of another child. Now, however, it wasn’t exactly something that made her jump for joy. And yet, there was a small, tucked away, part of her that was happy. This was supposed to be hers and Detra’s time now, though. They were older and not getting any younger. Ara ran a hand through her hair and sighed. “What else is there to do?” she asked as she pulled away once again. “We’ll keep it, of course. I...want to talk to Lithian though…”

Det blinked and then nodded with a dip of the head.
Together, they trekked back inside and, on finding Lithian, discussed the situation as it was including, among other things, the health of the child, gender, and — an apparently important question in Araceli’s mind — how many there were. Lithian, however, assured her there was just one, too early on yet for him to know the gender, but healthy so far and growing. They discussed the future of the pregnancy and plans for what she intended to do upon nearing delivery, including the possibility of Lithian and Casseth simply travelling to stay with them for a period as she grew close.
Eventually, a day or so later once fully assured that Araceli’s health was back to its usual and steady, they departed again, making their way back to their home on the windy continent. This time, Detraeus promised himself — and his mate, besides — there would be no leaving for calls of war. The rest of the world’s business was its own.
And they had a child to prepare for once more.
