════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Ambiance's unorthodox spin brought her sword to clash with the Wolfo's claws, leaving a ringing in the rocky walls nearby. Link, on the other hand, had managed to throw off the first Wolfo and was on his feet again. Ambiance's next attack wasn't as effective. The Wolfo was prepared, bringing its massive claws up and keeping them there to block. It was like the beast's hands were themselves made of metal. After taking the hit the Wolfo danced and darted around the arena again, looking for its opening. After a moment of this, it got bold and charged Ambiance head-on. There was a slight pause in its movements, though, and if Ambiance was quick she could capitalise on it.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking As before, ambiance tried to make sure she was facing this wolf at all times. She was relieved to see Link on his feet again, but given the intensity of the situation, now didn't seem to be the best time to express this relief. This creature before her was worrying. She had seen suits of armor march about and haunt the roads. She had seen spindly spiders crawl out of the dirt. She had seen dragons in whirlpools lift their heads and spit fire at those who were on shore. She had never been required to fight a curry creature that could probably eat her face and be happy.
"I don't suppose we could talk about-"
It charged and whether or not it understood remained unanswered. Ambiance dropped the point of the sword as she stumbled backward. The pause, when she did see it, convinced her to plant her feet and tighten her grip on the sword, and try once again to strike at the creature, aiming for its head or neck.
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════The Wolfo made a weird gurgling noise as its throat was pierced. It spun around, giving once last pathetically neutered howl before using the remainder of its air to try running away. Ambiance would have her chance to finish it.
The others, distracted by their comrade's shrill sounds of defeat, gave Link the opening he needed. Using his shield and sword as one unity, he became like a wrecking crew and took the two Wolfos apart with an impressive burst of strength. Afterwards, however, was a different story.
Link fell butt first onto the cold stone. Epona reared up in distress. His leg looked as though it wasn't going to be of much use to him from here on, unless he was treated. The important thing, though, was that the immediate danger had been dealt with and the trio could go on to thinking about solving the puzzle without triggering any more fights--if they could help it.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Ambiance felt her heart fall from its normal place at the creature's dying noises. Adrenaline motored her limbs into action and she struck again, hoping that the death blow would put the creature out of pain and out of misery. Though, on the combat had come to an end, she felt drained and conflicted. She wasn't in the habit of killing, so adjusting to the reality of being the cause of a creature's death did not come easy.
Link finished off the last two, a bit worse for the wear and appearing to have been hurt by the last fight. Ambiance blamed herself for the injuries he took. She had opened the door to bring in the wolfos. She lowered her sword, setting it on the ground as she approached Link and began to attend him. Solving the puzzle without triggering more dangers was best....
She did need to think about it. Perhaps she could do that while she helped Link. She was silent as she knelt by his side and drew out some loose fabric from the bag at her side. It wasn't fancy, but a bandage it would be for now. It was thick and wide enough to also be used to make a cast, if needed.
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Link, being the tough guy he was, waved a hand to dismiss Ambiance's help for a moment. ... But eventually he agreed to a simple wrapping as he dug a small bottle of red liquid out from his tunic.
That mess would take its own time sorting itself out, but it was a sure thing Link would be ready for the next batch of baddies. What wasn't a sure fix was the pillar situation. Rather than pull them all around, Link casually suggested they look under the straw.
All that revealed was more bones and the occasional node-thing that made it look as though a pillar was supposed to be there. What was really puzzling was the fact that, although the pillars came from the edges, where no monsters were called, they seemed to be called toward an arrangement in the center. This and their height pointed toward something, but what?

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Well, for now the tough guy was getting a bandage. When this effort was settled, the puzzle received their full attention. As per Link's suggestion, they began to clear out the straw and the dust that had obscured where the various poles rested. There... should be a pattern here. Ruins favored the idea of leaving pictures behind so that decedents and followers could overcome the challenges and do their people proud. Or, at least it felt that way when she found herself surrounded by symbols she didn't understand carved into structures that seemed to be able to last forever.
Ambiance turned her eyes skyward, wincing for a moment in the wind and the light, and she tried to follow the height of the pillar. Was it meant to point to something that was up there? Was this structure meant to trigger something?
She bit her lip and circled the area, this time with her eyes on the ground, where the indents and markings were. Instead of pushing the various pieces... could they be picked up and moved to new places? Pushed from these new starting points? Ambiance looked to Link. Her expression betrayed the doubt she had in her newest idea.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Link didn't seem too crazy about the idea. If Ambiance tried to pick the poles up he would be quick to dissuade her. While she was working with the clues they had the Hero started to have a look around the place. The platform was big, with a half-roof of overhanging rock. They could stay there the night if they needed, but Link was determined to find the way out of this mess.
That meant finding the entrance to wherever it was the sword was being kept. Although, it was entirely possible there was no inner sanctum here and the blade was simply on the top of the mountain. A look up at the beast said climbing was a bit of an impossibility, though, so it was probably best to keep on as they were.
Link was at work checking out the rock wall nearest them. He couldn't explain it, but something about how the wall set didn't sit right with him. It looked more like a giant door was slammed down on this would-be open section of wall. Upon discovering this he called back the news to Ambiance. It should be pretty clear now what they were trying to do, but they still needed to figure out what. ... Maybe it was the shape of the circle which threw her off?

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking The search and study continued. The pillars were what they were, the markings the same, and there were notches that suggested movement that was allowed. Link informed her of the odd rock formation, and on closer inspection, she felt that it wasn't supposed to be there, either. It could move? Had done so before, if the worn sections of floor were to be believed.
A secret door.. opened by the poles? She could believe it. Did it have anything to do with the central firepit? In some of the various tombs and dungeons in Labrynna a door opened in the presence of fire. Sadly, she had no ember seeds with her to encourage fire. Putting this thought aside for now, she studied the circle again. Did it catch light in a certain way? Was there a pattern that suggested the angle these poles should go in? Which of these markers was the most worn? Then again, just because it was worn down didn't necessarily mean that it was the right way, just that it had been moved the most.
She circled the firepit again.
She took a slow breath in and picked up her sword again. She didn't want to touch anything at this point, and she wasn't favoring the idea of summoning more wolves. Maybe they were going about this wrong...
She went around the circle once more. The poles and the way they were situated, certainly at an angle, were familiar and not exactly symmetrical. No... it wasn't even a true circle, was it?
She tilted her head and moved back to the start. "Link.. what does this look like to you?"

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════Previously frustrated, Link was beside himself with excitement. She knew Ambiance was onto something; he knew it too. Waving his hand at her ocarina and back to the shape they were rethinking, he stepped back, giving her room to do her thing. He had his sword ready, of course, in case they were wrong, but he was pretty confident that this was the way.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Both times they had moved the poles, they had triggered violence. Thinking perhaps that the physical world needed to be altered to open the door, they tried and failed. The world responded.
She lifted her ocarina again and brought it to her lips. She contemplated the poles and the firepit and its relative position. There was only one set that was arranged here. Was it a note?
Ambiance inhaled and released a cautious breath, yet played no note. Music hadn't hurt her yet. Was she nervous about being wrong? Or was it the worry that if this wasn't the solution that something worse would happen? She tried not to think about this... mostly because these guesses were illogical and they wouldn't help them proceed to the goal. She brought this instrument from another place. The songs she learned came from another's teaching. If it worked here, was this merely proof of more than just fate's hand?
She played the note and held it steady.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════The note rung out into space and perhaps time for a long moment after Ambiance stopped playing it. As if to follow its sonorous journey up the mountain, Link looked all around to the walls and rocks to see if anything had changed, coming to rest finally on the obstacle at hand.
... Nothing. Link took this moment to give the pillars another once over. There was something about the nodes which intrigued him. They seemed to be set at different depths. It wouldn't make sense, then to put the poles in any old place; no, these were going to have to be precisely done, moved, and they both knew what that meant. Link looked to Ambiance, after calling her over to see what he had, and drew his sword with a very adult look on his face as he nodded to his adventuring partner. It was up to her now to put the poles in the right divots.
(In the interest of time we'll skip after your next post.)

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking And... well, it had been worth a shot. She breathed a sigh of disappointment as she looped the cord on her ocarina around her neck. She didn't like the prospect of moving things around, as when things moved, it brought out the wolves. Though... if, maybe, she had her ocarina ready when the creatures came, perhaps they could be convinced to stay calm and they might survive this long enough to proceed into the actual hidden chamber.
With more study and consideration, she pondered and considered the next pole to move. It took some working up to get her nerves together, and after deciding which one to relocate, the effort was made. She was quick to bring her ocarina back up to begin playing. The wolfos would be coming any second now...
Though, with time, they would complete the puzzle, and hopefully with few casualties and injuries.

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════And they did come, but before they reached, their howls held in the low clouds, a satisfying "click" was made by the pole entering the correct node. Link was able to handle these first three somewhat easier than the last time, apparently growing used to their attack patterns. Ambiance would definitely have her fair share of action too, and hopefully she would learn as Link had done. The two had a chance to really work together on this one. Link could hold them at bay with his sword and shield while Ambiance, if she knew of it, could exploit their soft backs' weakness to finish them. Of course, even with all this the last five and six were still troublesome.
But they did it. Link, tired, cut up, sat at the top of the circle sipping on his red potion. In front of Ambiance now was an obvious arrangement of six notes, not simply a hand configuration for one note. Whatever song this was would undoubtedly open the door.
Whatever was waiting on the other side of that door only appeared in one shade of dark grey as the rock, sliding upwards with tremendous force--which spooked poor Epona--by some kind of magic, revealed the entrance to the real obstacle. This, Link was sure, was the only thing standing between him and his fateful sword. A quick look to Ambiance and he lit his lantern.

Ambiance~ Aura of Peace Oh, if only I could have been there I'd be a hand for the sinking Practice and patience made perfect. With adrenaline fueling her actions, Ambiance became a capable assistant in the art of taking down wolfos. The process itself took a bit, but fortunately, Link had been nothing but encouraging and patient through this process. At the end of it, there was relief that they could feel, a number of more bodies whose bones would join those on the ground, and there were definitely more notes to play.
Ambiance cleaned off her blade and she slid it into the sheath at her side. Then, her blue eyes studied the notes displayed before her. That was more unique than the original and boring solo note that she had attempted earlier.
With little further ado, she brought out the tool for the task, raised it to her lips once again, and she played through the short and simple melody. It was good to have success. However... all that solved was opening the door.
Hopefully, in a sealed dungeon, no monsters were able to live. If all that was in the darkness and the depths were spiders and tiny bugs, she could probably survive. They would survive.
I wish I could protect you here Oh, please don't cry, now, smile
