Lament's heavy blade sunk into the ground where Zeke had been only a moment before.
"Don't worry," She started with an innocent smile. "When we're evenly matched again, I'll mop the floor with your pretty face." It was a promise in a sweet tone, but almost immediately after she was back on the defensive. His weapon whipped at her, but she wasn't fast enough to grab it. This time, she vaulted herself forward while gripping Lament's handle, and pushed both of her feet into his shoulder at the same time.

Her comment earned a bark of a laugh, though it cut off as she drove her heels into his shoulder to shove him back a few stumbling steps. It resulted in a grunt, a handful of seconds to rub at the point of impact, then he was shaking his head at her, smirk stretching across his lips again. "Yeah, but when will that be?" The space she'd won for herself was eaten up by quick steps, and he was on her again, Axe back and already coming around for a broad swipe. A little too quickly. It barely scratched at her shield. "Whenever I get around to it, handsome." Hattie smiled sweetly. In truth, she was going to be applying for it in the next few weeks, once she had a couple of ducks in a row - and a few things she thought she might need before she ranked up. Like an actual match on a battlefield, outside of the safety of the island and it's buffers. The last time she tried, she ended up making friends with a Pumpkin-headed fellow. Clearly not the sort of field experience a Hunter needs.
He'd eaten up her space, and without the ability to shove him back without getting those axes of his between them, she was at a loss. At least, she was, right up until the incessant whistling in her head reminded her of something she had only used once, for good reason. With a quick shift, she took a step towards him as she hoisted Lament forward, letting the weapon fall to the ground, the axe too close to her feet and the handle against her chest. Her free hand reached out in the short space they had left, grabbing a handful of Zeke's shirt and using it to yank him forward, completely closing the space between them, she trapping Lament between their bodies.
"Enjoy this while you can~" She whispered before she leaned up to get a kiss. The hand on Lament twisted. FEAR gathered quickly, and suddenly, hundreds of metallic bone-like spikes protruded from every ounce of the weapon itself, piercing both them from chest to feet. She gave nothing but a small, pained whimper against his lips as her shield shattered, though not without giving his quite a bit of damage too.
The spikes vanished as the weapon did, and Harley leaned away from him, letting his shirt go. She let out a more obviously pained whine as she stumbled back and finally fell back onto her butt in the dirt. <******** ow." She whined, poking at the scratches and small pinpricks of red along her shins. Everything would heal in a moment as if it never happened; for now, these were the remnants of her broken shield. "Guess that makes us even."

She was always unpredictable, and that didn't change in a fight. Her actions, her motivations, they were hard to anticipate, hard to read. Something that didn't really call for much cause for concern, but something he probably should have taken into consideration. Something that crossed his mind a second or two too late, as slender fingers snapped out to grab the front of his shirt to drag him in. Or maybe it was on his mind as she pulled him in against her and murmured sweetly up to him. Maybe it was on his mind as she rose up to catch his lips in a kiss. Regardless of what was going through his head, the sudden affection was rather thoroughly disarming (It always seemed to be, whether he was facing Ever or her.) Distracting in a way that seemed to shut down the rest of his mind to allow other things to the forefront. In that instant, as in most cases where devious tactics were used against him, the fight was over. Least til the unexpected(it should have been expected, by now) spread of piercing pain that shot through him from shoulders on through his legs. Her whimper was taken, and returned in kind as pale eyes snapped open. And for the briefest second, even after the spikes disappeared from between them, he was just too stunned to react properly. Instead he blinked at Harley as she stumbled back from him and fell, weapon gone. Tiny bursts of crimson appearing all over her long legs. "Girl, that is brutal." It'd taken a massive bite out of his shield, and seemed to have destroyed her's as well. Wincing, he stepped towards her, reaching down so he could pull her back up to her feet before scooping her up completely into his arms. "now I know why you don't like using it." If it damaged her as much as it did an opponent...

"Yeeeeah…" Harley heaved a heavy sigh around the word, extending it with exasperation. "It might be a little more helpful if I used it as the beginning of battles, or when I have a partner to capitalize on it." She mused, thinking nothing of the way he scooped her up and held her against him. In fact, it seemed like such a natural thing to do that she lifted one arm, looping it around the back of his neck and shoulders, to make it all the easier for them both. "Otherwise it's a terrible charge and I hope my next ones aren't as cruel." Despite all of this, she didn't sound terribly upset about it all.
Though she did wrinkle her nose and make a rather discomforted face.
"I don't like when my shield breaks. I feel very squishy and…" She paused, trying to search for the word. "…mortal." She finished, for lack of better words. Without her shield, she felt weird now. As weird as it had been to get the shield in the first place, really. It was amazing how quickly she had adapted to having that extra ounce of magical protection.
"So!" Suddenly perking up, she peered at him suspiciously. "What am I doomed to doing for the rest of the day, Master?"

It really didn't seem like that useful of an attack, except for maybe as a last ditch effort to take your enemy down with you. Which, if Zeke were very honest with himself, he hoped Harley never found herself in a situation like that. If he could have figured out a way to keep her safe and whole on the island, without her resenting him for it, he'd have done so by now. "I hope so too, gingersnap." Her nose wrinkled up, and he let out a soft sound of amusement. "Trust me, I know exactly what you mean." He'd spent a month not knowing how well his shield could protect him. A month of wondering if he was protected in anyway, should anything happen. It had been a bit sobering, to say the least. "It'll come back." Give her a couple of hours, and her partner would be there again, like a second skin. The question earned her a rather smug look, white teeth flashing as he grinned down at her. "Anything I want." He certainly had s few things in mind, but she was still bleeding, and he was nothing if not a complete gentleman where she was concerned. Without another word he started heading back to the dorms with her still held effortlessly in his arms, head dipping as he walked to lay a kiss against the side of her mouth.
