Whatever Horace was expecting, it wasn't that. A rain of what seemed to be blood hissed and popped around him, stinging like sparks, like tiny pins, like heating a wire and just touching it to the skin of his upper arm. Horace made the mistake of breathing in and the powerful smell of blood and decay filled his lungs. He nearly choked. Through the mess of it, he rushed at Austin, hooking his fingers around Hey just enough to yank the weapon down. Then he aimed a punch at the his jaw. HP: 24/50 DMG: 9 CHG: 3/3 and be blue its a s**t tag but its a tag, sorry

Horace hit hard enough to knock Austin's head back a bit: left him seeing stars, with a shield that felt...not broken, but perhaps a bit bruised. It was clear enough, at this point, that this wasn't a fight he could win. He was wobbly, and one more hit like that would have him flat on his a**. All the same, grapple to grapple, Austin wasn't about to back down. He didn't swing for Horace's face but kicked at his knee, instead, trying to tug his weapon free. HP: 9/40 Charge: 1/3 DMG: 6

He stumbled and nearly went down. "Ow. Jesus ********! First the gross blood spray and now this?" Horace paused. "Good job." He stuck out his foot and tried to hook it around Austin's. HP: 18/50 DMG: 4 CHG: 3/3

Yes. The battle was definitely lost. Austin didn't go down this time, at least, but he was off-balance, with his shield pressing in and his head spinning a little. He swung back at Horace but it was weak, just the end of his bow catching him across the arm as Austin righted himself again. HP: 5/40 Charge: 2/3 DMG: 1

< Jannisari whispered in his head. Horace ignored her. It wouldn't do to unleash something on a trainee (assuming he even hit). He would, of course, go until one of their shields popped. He swung and missed as Jannisari's incessant hiss broke his concentration. "You can do better than that, Austin." HP: 17/50 DMG: 0 CHG: 3/3

"Your sarcasm isn't helpful." Sharp, he swung again -- and hit just a little bit harder this time. Whether or not Horace intended his words genuinely, it seemed Austin would take them as salt in the wounds, and he wasn't about to give up either. HP: 5/40 Charge: 2/3 DMG: 3

Horace nearly yelped at the hit. "Looks like my sarcasm is helpful, though." He was getting more tired; he could feel that familiar pull on the edges of his sense that meant his shield was weakening. Horace wished the spar could drag one and on, just teasingly close to shattering. But he would need someone else for that. Suddenly irritated, He swung grabbed hold of Austin's arm and twisted before shoving his blade into the other man's side. HP: 14/50 DMG: 10 CHG: 3/3

It was a tidy little hold; Horace broke Austin's shield and retained hold of his arm as he buckled under the sudden draining of strength, legs gone to jelly and a slow ache throbbing from the spot where Horace's sword had hit. Hey whispered in the back of his mind, a warning that he was undefended, and Austin immediately dropped a hand to the spot -- expecting blood to well out from between his fingers, expression more started that afraid when they came back clean -- "s**t." He didn't quite go down in the dirt, but a slow thrumming started behind his eyes and his weapon disappeared down to just a slim pen in one hand.

Horace watched as Austin's weapon disappeared almost sadly. Austin had given him such a good show - maybe when Austin got stronger... For now, he continued to hold on, hoping his grip might help the other man. Horace remembered how his shield breaking always made him feel weak in the knees, among other things. "You alright, Austin?"

"Let go." Austin wriggled in his grasp like Horace wasn't helping him but was, instead, restraining him -- eventually tugging his arm free, rubbing at his shoulder in an uncomfortable kind of way as he straightened. Two steps away, and he scowled at the other man, eyebrows knitted fiercely. It wasn't a bad expression, on his mouth, sullen as it was. "Where's my beer?"

Horace rolled his eyes at Austin. "Touchy." He let go, content to let the other man stand on his own, especially since he neither wanted nor apparently needed his help. "And beer's over there." He jerked a thumb at the base of one of the practice dummies. "As promised."

Austin didn't say anything, then: obviously not exactly a graceful loser. Not in anything. He didn't even look at Horace as he crossed to the beer and grabbed it, shoving it into one of the deep pockets of his coat and starting away. His knees were still wobbly. It made his storming off look all the more petulant.
