Mont Blonc shuddered violently as Xenotime's hand withdrew from his chest again, and he knew he should be fighting - he knew he couldn't just lay here and accept this - but god it hurt. His breath was shallow and his vision kept fading in and out of focus, and the squire had curled into himself, as if somehow trying to shield his starseed, his broken fingers, and his broken and bloodied nose all at once.

He knew he should move. He knew he had to. But he just couldn't, could hardly muster enough to be able to try and pull away from the general's unwanted touches and caresses, his eyes squeezed shut and hot tears gathered at the edges of his eyes - half because of the pain, and half because - because this couldn't happen. This wasn't supposed to happen.

Her palm again his cheek was less soothing and more like an oppressive weight that sought to consume him. This was a bad dream, righ? Like all the rest? - god, please let him wake up.

The squire thought maybe he heard something - and fearing the worst, he shut his eyes tighter still, pale, shaking, and sweating in a heap on the ground. At least until he heard a voice, loud and commanding, but familiar, and his chest ached in a different way. His eyes opened into crescents, not really seeing, but trying.

"P-Plou...?"

Xenotime wasn't prepared for the attack. Not because it came from behind, she was aware of the chaos presence that had appeared there, but because there was any attack at all. She heard the whistle of the blade as it sliced the air just past her shoulder, and silver eyes widened, startled, before narrowing at the voice that followed it.

The crystal slipped from her fingers, but instead of grabbing for it the general lifted her head, turning to look over her shoulder She knew that voice. She knew that weapon...

"Ashanite." The woman's tone was leaded with resigned disappointment. Shale, you were right. Good news for the hunter, perhaps. The squire in her lap was all but forgotten as silver eyes locked on the captain at her back. His head slipped from her thigh as she moved to stand, letting him lay where he fell at her feet. "You wound me." Almost literally. She sounded, if possible, hurt. He wasn't thinking, couldn't have been thinking. This was suicide.

The hood came down with a brush of her fingers, and violet hair caught the light from the moon and held it, like a bright halo. "What do you mean by this." And he had better have a good answer, because even if she hadn't healed completely yet from her clash with Thraen, she could still beat him.

Ashanite moved closer, taking the risk that she might grab him or attack him. "I mean exactly what I said. I'm going to take him and we're going to leave. That's all."

He dropped his voice, praying only she could hear him. "Trust me, please," he hissed, "I promise I'll explain." And then he dropped to gather Mont Blonc in his arms, a gentle hold that he hoped wouldn't agitate any of the Squire's injuries. If she chose, she could kill him. She could tell Shale, which would end exactly the same way. He was panicked, running entirely on adrenaline, because this could go completely wrong in a heartbeat if she decided to not trust him.

"Hang on, Mont Blonc," he said. "Please." If Monty died, all f this was useless. He had just risked whatever he had built with Xenotime - whatever trust there was between them - for nothing.

Bits and pieces of their conversation reached him, and he felt himself slip onto the ground in a heap of limbs, still curled into himself, trying to somehow - just exist right now. Mont Blonc wanted to escape from the pain, the agonizing tightness in his chest, but he knew he had to stay away. Especially since now he knew as he forced himself to focus, trying to will his eyes to open into more than the narrow slits that they were.

He heard the woman question him - and he heard Ploutonion's voice growing closer, and could have sobbed when he heard the words take him and leave because that's all he wanted, please, please - trust me and explain danced on the edges of his awareness, although even if he recalled the words later, he'd in no way connect them to anything suspicious.

Then he felt himself being gathered up by Ploutonion, and he couldn't even bite back a soft sound of pain, still hunched, his uninjured hand curled tightly into the fabric of his shirt over his chest, enough for the white of his knuckles to show.

It completely figured that the first words that left his mouth, his voice raw and impossibly broken from screaming, were, "I-I'm sorry..."

But he would not die; not now. The main intention here, after all, had not been death.

Silver eyes narrowed at his curt answer, fingers curling loosely at her sides. He knew her well enough, by now, to read her body language. To know he was in trouble here. The set of her shoulders, the tension that sang through her arms. Posture rigid as he walked towards her and the squire at her feet. He'd see it also, the desire to reach out and grab him, to drag him down to her level and make him explain himself here and now, not later.

But she didn't move--couldn't move--least she do just that, or worst. Only her head, turning slowly to keep him in view as he knelt beside the knight, Mont Blanc, to gather the man into his arms. That he cared for him was not the issue here. Xenotime had already known he cared, it was why she had done this, why she was going to bring him over.

It was that he'd stopped her. And for what reason?

What reason was there not to corrupt the squire now? None that she could see.

Her anger radiated off her small body in waves.

Ashanite held Xenotime's eyes, wishing he could say more than a whispered plea to trust him. He hadn't given her or Shale much reason to, and he knew it - had acknowledged it, out loud, when he had acquiesced to Umber's insistence he report all of his movements in his efforts to corrupt Victoria. This was, he knew, especially delicate. She was furious, it was in every line of her body - but she was standing still, letting him hold onto the Knight. She was, apparently, going to trust him long enough for him to actually accomplish what he was trying to do here. A minor miracle.

He wasn't going to test her, not when testing her would be death for both of them. He pulled out an energy sphere and crushed it between his fingers - teleporting both of them to the nearest hospital was going to be tiring.

And then they both flickered out of existence.
