Yeah like, I'm thinking changelings would basically just be humans that didn't die from radiation that underwent mutations like, in the weeks after the nuclear event. I imagine the actual plot might take place a few months or maybe even up to a year after the nuclear event, so that there's enough time for a new kind of society to be established, with new cultural norms (though knowing humans, they'd most likely attempt to make things as familiar as possible, and would probably pick changelings as the scapegoat for all their radiation induced woes - perhaps changelings could be immune to radiation?)
I'm thinking like, at first the changelings would be a minority, so humans would treat them with disdain (think X-men basically), but then someone comes along and bands them all together like bricks and mortar, and all of a sudden holy s**t! Changelings go from being this persecuted underdog minority of 'freaks of nature' to a kind of militant group with superhuman abilities, and -given that they used to be/still technically are humans - they know what humans are like and decide 'nah you guys suck at caring for planets, you go now, kthxbye'.
I don't know about the main plot (mostly because I've been pretty distracted with getting/moving house and haven't really paid much attention to anything but this room thus far), but I can probably ask around about it.
I'm glad you want to play a human, I was slightly worried people might all want to be changelings hahah (I'm more partial to playing a changeling myself).
Haha, don't worry! I usually like to play the kind of characters others don't want to so we can have a balanced co-host group biggrin That sounds really good! And it works really really well for a Fallout group. I'm excited for this! And I finally have the time to do the Ball again. Feels great. XD
PS: If this is in September then I'll be around to cover night shifts. I have very little time during the day during that month due to a job but that'll be good to have someone cover the nights.
Sweet. I'm getting pretty hyped for it too.
I live in Australia so I do the night shifts by default, so we could possibly have a side plot to bounce off each other to get some more story out there?

That would be lovely! The literal first thing I thought was Changeling-human romeo and Juliet HAAAAAAAH. XD

Heh, it probably wouldn't work if I was involved bc I'm aromantic and completely hopeless at RPing characters with romantic interests, but I wouldn't write something like that off entirely. Perhaps if we get more people joining the room we might be able to run something like that? I think we could probably do better than two angsty tweens lacking in luck and common sense though lmao.
Though for a side plot we could run with a few things, like for instance a spy infiltrating the humans or vice versa (I have zero ideas for motivations or goals regarding this, but it's an idea), or maybe something like a changeling having a change of heart and deciding to help the humans for whatever reason (it would have to be a /good/ reason though, there's really not much appeal to joining what looks to be the 'losing' side.
Or maybe even a side plot that could weave into the main plot of the room? So maybe two leaders of the human and changeling factions realise something isn't quite right about the Mysterious Person, and covertly meet to uncover their identity? Maybe they could have been human friends before the apocalypse and one of them changed?

Yo I'm asexual I feel that. And that would be really cool, if they were friends before and one of them mutated into a changeling and the other didn't. It'd be tough to be friends when you're at war XD
We can also work in the main plot once we know what it is!

Aww yis, high five for invisibility! But yeah, I think that would be good.
Once I've settled into my new place (and have wi-fi again, rip phone data), I'll get back into the swing of things and start pestering Newsies and whoever else for updates on the main plot.

Hey, if you guys could sound off and let me know what you think of the plot and what kind of character/faction you'd like to be a part of, I'd appreciate it.
Also if you guys are cool with whatever and don't really want to be/mind not being a part of the plot building for this room, please let me know, because otherwise I'm going to be pestering you all for critiques and ideas.
Sorry it's been awhile, I've been busy with a show (it's done tomorrow). I'm personally thing being a changeling would be neat, but I'll do either. I like the idea of the friends before apocalypse and one changes thing, it's kinda like a on romantic version of Romeo and Juliet in a way

Platonic angst is the new romantic angst lmao
Bear in mind that that would probably only be a side-plot thing, we still need to work out a main plot idea that is a bit more inclusive of all guests. Something involving the Mystery Person (really need to think of a name or title for them soon) and their end goals would be ideal. Do they want to wipe out humans/enslave them, how would they go about doing that? Who is going to stop them? How are they going to stop them? What's going to happen that would turn the tide in the favour of the humans (compassion? peace treaties and/or dividing lands and making new borders? etc.)?
We need to think up what kind of story events we want to happen over the course of the ball. Thus far all I can really think of is something to do with humans exposing the Mystery Person as a fraud or a liar, and the changelings becoming disillusioned with them and joining forces with the humans to defeat the common enemy. How the plot would actually get to that point is beyond me so please feel free to throw anything out there.
I'm pretty much just going to keep spouting ideas that come to me, but feel free to veto anything that doesn't appeal to you or sound like it'd be fun to roleplay.
(quoting everyone for the sake of keeping everyone in the loop)
The ball is three days, not four, as far as I'm aware.
The main plot is looking like it will have a single person (potentially a group) capable of interdimensional travel that gets stuck in Gaia and opens a bunch of rifts to access the five closest dimensions to try to find five things (crystal shards perhaps) to regain their powers (to what end, I don't know). This fits seamlessly with our plot, so now that this is covered, we need to get to work on what events will actually happen.
If anyone has quest ideas, or has fleshed out a character concept (perhaps even with art or a gaia avatar), that would be welcome!

First, we need to know who's human and who's a changeling. Is DJ Hope a human to have a host on both sides? I'm down with anything tbh

I'm going to put my hand up to be a changeling, there's a chance we won't even need to have someone from our room be the mystery person as they will probably be part of the main plot, so just pick a faction really. I believe you said being a human would be cool, so I'm happy for you to be the leader of the human faction if you want.
I haven't heard from DJ in a while, they seem to have gone awol, so for now lets focus on doing what we can.

Okay! I'm perfectly okay leading the human faction. We can lead an anit-changling attack during one of the days (probably the second).

Sweet. That settles Day 2's plot then. Day 1 could be the introduction of the Traveller and ensuing drama, but what about Day 3?

Okay, tell me what you think of this. Might be too dark, but then again, it's nuclear fallout, it's kinda gonna be dark no matter what we do.
“Is it like this In death's other kingdom Waking alone At the hour when we are Trembling with tenderness Lips that would kiss Form prayers to broken stone.”
It’s funny how things can become the norm so quickly. One minute you’re looking at the new Google logo, and the next, you can’t even remember it looking like anything else.
That’s what it was like for us.
The world was brought to its knees in a matter of minutes. Every nuclear plant across the globe was attacked in unison, with a level of orchestration never before seen in human history, and likely never to be seen again. It was over before anyone could do anything to respond to it. In those few days, the entire world became the new Chernobyl.
While everyone was busy worrying about the impending war with Russia and the Middle East, the real threat went unnoticed, slipping under everyone’s radar right up until it happened. At first they seemed like a regular Anarchist group, and people shrugged them off – after all, Anarchy had been around since the sixteenth century, if not earlier. Why would they suddenly be a threat now, right? - but it soon became apparent that that was society’s first mistake.
This group was different. If Anarchists were the common cold, these ones were a mutant strain; a super virus. They were an Anarchist group that broke away from Anonymous, disillusioned with how things were being run – if you could even call it that. They knew they were capable of doing more, of being more, but in the end Anonymous was just a bunch of white basement dwellers that liked their cushy positions in society too much. They were soft, and those that defected made sure they knew.
Even now, we don’t know their name. All we know is that they wanted to destroy society, and that they succeeded. You hear whispers every now and then that everything they did, they did ‘for the lulz’.
… I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree after all.
It’s been eleven years since the attack. Most people didn’t think radiation could even be that bad. Typically, radiation interacts with the body by depositing energy in the cells, and that energy messes around with things on an atomic level. When this happens to DNA, you get mutations that typically manifest over time as the mutated cells divide and propagate. But… if you have an extreme, extreme dose of radiation, the effects are much more immediate. The radiation is depositing energy in your body, much like a microwave heating a Hot Pocket. A high enough dosage can literally cook you, almost instantly... and that's just one effect. The energy can also flash boil all of the water in your body, making you basically explode. It’s surprising how quick people were to forget Hiroshima.
For those of us who didn’t die instantly, there was the radiation sickness. It killed slowly… and painfully. Many who had succumbed to it called the first to die, the ‘lucky ones’. People started to realise that the world was at an end, and they seemed to just give up on their old lives, as if they never had one. There were riots, looting and violence, and it seemed with this, that the last remaining threads of civilisation had been cut. There was no more law, no more consequences for your actions, there was just ‘you’.
But there were some of us who weren’t affected at all. Some of us survived, and thrived, despite being in areas of near fatal levels of radiation. We were immune. Nobody noticed at first because we were all too busy fending for our lives, but some of us didn’t get sick. The radiation affected us differently somehow. There wasn’t any real way to test the theory, but we hazarded a guess that some of us had evolved, like how some people had evolved to not have wisdom teeth. These days it’s not uncommon to see people with weird numbers of fingers and toes, tails, multiple limbs, horns, weird eyes, gills… even Janus heads, wings, or entirely different bodies, all functioning perfectly well, as if nothing else had ever been the norm.
We are the ones that survived, and those of us that aren’t focused on rebuilding what was lost, hunt down the surviving perpetrators of the attacks that day.
I'm not done catching up. I just want you to know I love this. Like ******** love. Like the amount of F-bomb in front of the word love there is potent. And if this is not our plot, I'm going to be nagging you to make a regular Rp with this with me anyway. Cuz. F-bomb love.
A. I am cool with being human mystery person. In fact. that would be super ******** fun for me.
MKAY so I already may have flash thought of a character concept.
The human that organizes the the changelings can be called several things.
1. The Shepard. (kind of a pun towards biblical things. I know. but thats why I like it, because. I'm awful) 2. I am open to suggestions cuz that's all I have after work stressed me OUT LOL
Character outline stuff
The human that joins the changelings together can defect because of events that what happened after.
She/he is a mutant that not only survived the initial attacks, but also does not get sick. When the attacks happened they were a rookie homicide investigator, just recently academy graduate. A long line of blue bloods was their family, and they have justice engrained into their systems.
Defection could be caused due to a murder that happens of a anarchist who was part of the original group that caused the worlds destruction. Murder is not justice. Murdering does not rewind the damage caused. Not only that, but they had already a preconceived notion that the 'changelings' were treated unfairly, after all they were once human, they were essentially human, they simply looked different - and capabilities that humans did not.
They eyes are opened to the fact that people will never change, they will always be destructive. Looking back on history, remembering war after war, and the atrocities seen in their short career as a homicide cop. Leaving the group of humans he meets a changeling and see that not only is their outside different, their souls have matured due to the injustice that they have suffered.
The idea is then conceived the changelings may be able to breed a new world with new concepts of unity and peace, if only they could rid the world of the pest that is the "normal" humans and the hate that they breed.
A villian and a hero at the same time, they disguise themselves as a changeling, with the intention of unifying the changelings, and leading a war against what remains of "humanity," install a new order to peace and unity within them, and then to end themselves as the final step to ridding the world of the destructive force that had caused the worlds destruction.
This is of course a rough draft, and I'm writing this at work, I need to refine it, and need your guys opinions.
