It was a commendable sort of chivalry that Gretchen found severely lacking in modern society. However, it was the sort of thinking that could get him into trouble in their line of work. Being sorry didn't seem to make him hit any less hard, though. He was kicking her a**, thoroughly and soundly. Another heavy blow, this time to the chest, and the trainee went down with a grunt as she hit the patchy grass with a thump. That one had stung a bit, her shield was starting to weaken, and each successive hit held a touch more impact. A little more bite. ( On your feet, ghoul. You aren't finisssshed yet.) No, not yet. Back on her feet, she went for him again, swinging the staff down at his legs, as if she meant to take his feet out from under him. HP: 12 DMG: 3 CHG: 3/3

He watched her go down, a momentary look of concern was on his face, it may have been a little bit foolish but it was hard to simply toss aside the thought of harming another human. Anything not human was not really a concern, it wasn’t even about looking human it was the thought of being. Her staff collided into his legs, bringing him down to one knee as a hiss erupted into his head. (Don’t you dare drop me.) Matt scrambled back onto his feet swinging his spear just barely missing the blades of grass with the tip of his spear. Another hiss erupted as a grin showed on his face, he jabbed towards Gretchen aiming for her shoulder. HP: 36 DMG: 6 CHG: 3/3

( You are going to lossssssee!) So help me, then! There was a vicious hiss, then a flare of purple runes along the wrapped ends of the staff as Devika released the charge. A coldness, like a rush of icy water, and then...nothing What happened?( You're not ssssstrong enough yet for my help.) HP: 6 DMG: CHG: 0/3

Matt watched as Gretchen’s weapon started a charged and thing nothing as it fizzled out. (You should do the same.) The matter a fact voice snapped in for a moment. Instead he swung low from the ground up, again aiming for her side with the full edge of the butterfly ignoring whatever Kasi screamed at him. There was no reason to do any sort of overkill on her, if it had been something else he would have obliged. HP: 36 DMG: 6 CHG: 3/3

That was all it took. Gretchen felt her shield break under the impact a split second before the wards kicked in to absorb the rest of the damage. They helped, a lot, but as she hit the ground again she knew she'd be bruised. An occupations hazard. "Uncle!" At least she was laughing and she held a hand out to ward him off. "In done, you win, darlin'." Her weapon hissed, furious, but the trainee was getting better at letting that disapproval roll off her shoulders. "Sir, you hit like a sack of bricks." Or maybe that was just the difference in their ranks.

Matt immediately de summoned his weapon as Gretchen went down, Kasi of course screamed knowing that it was risky that the hunter would have easily attacked if she hadn’t agreed. He ignored Kasi holding out a hand to help her get off the ground. “Sorry about that, I hope I didn’t leave too bad of a mark. To tell you the truth this honestly is only the second spar I have ever won. Usually I struggle.” Or maybe it was finally starting to show that Matt had spent a lot of time training. Of course he was still bottom as an intermediate in battle, but he had at least gotten better from his trainee days.

Gretchen reached up for the hand gratefully, smiling as he pulled her back up to her feet with only the smallest of winces. "Really, it's alright." It was training, she expected to get a little banged up, especially against someone a rank above her. She wasn't going to hold it against him. Him doing well was good for his survival, and would help her get better. "Didn't struggle to day, that's for sure." The girl lay a hand gingerly on her side, checking for tenderness, and decided against further inspection. Definitely going to leave a bruise, but that was alright.

There was a faint smile on his lips; at least she didn’t at least hold a grudge for him beating her so easily. Honestly he was still a little surprised that he had beaten her, usually it took him some time and the utterly failure at the end. “You weren’t bad yourself I swear a lot better than when I started. I dropped my spear the first few times I sparred.” It was awful, Kasi was still pissed at him for it, the fairy could hold a massive grudge if she wanted. “If it still bothers you, your side, I am sure I can give you something in the infirmary for it.

"I'll probably be fine, but I appreciate the offer," she drawled out cheerfully, brushing grass and dirt off the back of her pants. "It's mighty kind of you. "'N you don't have to sugar coat nothin', I know i'm not all that great at combat. S'all right, that's what practice if for." She didn't sound as though the loss had wounded her pride much. Gretchen didn't like combat, really, but it was a necessity of the job, and she'd take it seriously. "Fightin against you is good practice."

“You’re welcome. It’s my job to at least make sure hunters are in top shape health wise.” That was what happened when you spent all your time in the infirmary. You treated everything like the infirmary. Matt gave a nervous laugh. “I wish I was sugar coating it, I was terrible, I am sure I am still terrible sparring against people in the same class. Fighting isn’t my strong suit, medic is but have to do some defense so may as well train for it.” He had started to like it more after practice, lots of practice but it still wasn’t he was great at, or enjoyed over caring for others.
