Rather than light up, however, Stormy pocketed the cigarette, keeping her fingers around it. "How've you been?" she asked, a little stilted in posture--caught between just leaving him be and remembering polite conversations required certain amounts of, well, talking.

9:23 am - Life LabsIf Stormy had taken the cigarette and run, Ever at least wouldn't have been offended by that -- in fact, he totally sympathized with the urge to split before making awkward small talk, though he personally never minded a little conversation. It meant he grinned at her frozen position, between here and there, and rolled one shoulder in a brief shrug. "No complaints. I've barely been out of the building for a while, but at least that mean's nothing's tried to kill me for a while. Except for that whole Delta thing..."

A rueful laugh followed another breath of the cigarette, as Sin tilted his head back- giving Ever a look over his shoulder. He understood very well. Before, smoking was merely a hobby to pass the time and to enjoy with others. But as you stayed at Deus longer, it became a coping mechanism. When you were surrounded by the darkness of monsters, the only path was to sink deeper into it. And the further down you sank, the harder it was to maintain your sanity. It was evident on some hunters' faces already, the weariness that showed the toll their bodies and mind took.
If it was a marginal consolation, at least they were in this together. The way Sin stayed at Ever's side was enough to convey that. "But I hope your friend doesn't give you too much of a hard time about the whole smoking issue." And by friend, he meant his weapon. His weapon always complained about it, and for good reasons as well. It was too bad that Sin wasn't always there to do healthy things. This entire lifestyle was pretty crazy.

Unfortunately, Ever's mind went somewhere totally different: went to something he refused to call a relationship, despite the shared beds and weekend trips and afternoon check-ins. It made him fidget, just a little uncomfortably, and roll one shoulder in a shrug. "No one really gives me s**t for it. They just, um. Bum cigarettes..."

Oho? He had meant it as a completely innocuous question. But the way it made the other male fidget made Sin tilt his head in an amused smile. By then, he was fully facing the other hunter. So Ever had a different friend he was concerned about. Though he really shouldn't be embarrassed, since Sin was fond of having friends of a sexual nature as well. He preferred having friends with benefits rather than a committed lover. "You don't call them friends? What suits you better? Acquaintance? Comrade? Companion? Whichever one floats your boat!"
"Well." He didn't pry too much into Ever's affairs. However, Sin wasn't above good-natured teasing as he warned him; "Be careful of where you and your friends smoke then. For example, imagine if your dorm room caught on fire, and Caelius had to come in the middle of it!" Any hunter leader really, not just Caelius, would certainly be a problem.
That scenario made him laugh out loud after he stated it, since it wasn't his problem.

She leaned a little more into staying, curiosity piqued. "What happened there anyway?" she asked. "Other than us getting a bunch of new runic people."
