Ganymede blinked, listening to his explanation... Before he would have declared that it was stupid and refused to do it, but now.... well, he still thought it was stupid but he supposed he could manage a "thank you." Thank you's weren't as bad as apologies. He absolutely refused to do that.
"Okay, I guess." He shrugged, and looked around, as if he were trying to figure out where they were going based off of their surroundings. But it wasn't like he'd been to this part of town anyway so... no luck there!
"Welllll it must be important 'cause you're taking me and normally you keep you-stuff hidden." He looked back up to Vaden, one brow quirked as if to say, 'I know you're keeping secrets.'

Vaden was relieved when it didn't lead to the argument he was expecting it. Maybe he was finally starting to get through to the kid that other people were people and important too. He could only hope, otherwise he had no idea how Gany would survive the rest of his school years, or adult hood if he didn't learn a little tact and some manners.
"It is." he glanced down and raised an eyebrow. He wasn't entirely sure what that look was supposed to mean. For the most part he was completely honest with the kid. He didn't have any particular reason to lie to him...for the most part.
They finished walking down the block and Vaden gestured to a little shop and opened the door motioning for Gany to go inside. "Here we are." he said. "You can look around while I handle this little tiny bit of business, but don't touch anything." his eyes locked on the little boy's form as he entered the building and just waiting for the reaction of what were they doing here of all places.

Most of Gany's reactions to others were pure instinct. Something seemed off about Vaden but he couldn't quite figure out what it was. He eyed the shop, taking a moment to realize what it was before he perked up, immediately getting extremely excited.
"You have business in a pet shop??" He scurried on inside, tendrils and markings flaring with light in a display of excitement. He immediately gravitated to the flitterats, and peered into the cage. "Ah...."

Vaden smirked just a bit and followed Gany in, his hands moving behind his back as he watched him immediately move to the cages that housed the rats.
He drifted around a bit seemingly on his own mission before coming up behind Gany. "Impressed by anyone in there?" he asked offhandedly and kneeling down next to the freshling, before also turning to look over the rats. There were a few active ones, and of course a few curled up in a huge pile asleep as rats were wont to do.
One was even on top of the little dome unit and investigating the top of the cage. Vaden smirked just a bit, he knew that look in a rat. She was trying to find the way out. Good girl, or at least he was impressed by her. The odds were she was an escapist and drove the owner crazy.

Oh they were all really cute... not as shiny as Charo, though. He watched them scurry around, sniffing the edge of the glass where he was, completely entranced by them. He didn't even notice Vaden coming up behind him. He blinked, then looked up at him. "Oh, um...." He looked back to the cage, eyes immediately landing on the little pink one with the spots currently messing around with the lid.
"That one. She's smart." He nodded, "It's a girl, right?" He tilted his head, looking back to Vaden.

Vaden nodded. "They're all female in this cage. Be rather problematic if they had the males in with them." he said, then pointed at the cage on the other wall. "That's where the boys are."
He looked back at the little pink girl. "She is, she's probably trouble." he said. "Just like someone else I know." he meant Gany, but Charo would also apply in this situation as well.
He paused for a moment seemingly thinking things over. "So you want her?" he said looking over at the child.

"That's what I thought..." He nodded and looked back to the cage, grinning when the little pink flitterat turned her head to stare at him. "Why's it a problem if the boys and girls are together? They do that in the dorms." He blinked, glancing back up for a second before returning his gaze to the rat as she started to poke and prod at the top of the cage with more effort.
He squinted, then looked back to Vaden again. "...Do you mean me? Y'know if more people just understood what I was sayin' I wouldn't be trouble." He shrugged .... and rolled his eyes when Vaden asked the question, not quite grasping that he was asking with intent to get her.
"I don't have that kind of allowance Vaden." He looked back to the cage with a small frown.

"Ah!..." Vaden froze up for a moment. That was true, the dorms were all co-ed, so of course Gany wouldn't see the problem. "It wouldn't exactly be appropriate for kids to walk in and see two rats uh...having relations, now would it?" he silently prayed he wouldn't have to elaborate on that. Please get the gist Gany, please.
"You or Charo." he said being honest and then he sighed. "Sometimes I don't think you even know what you mean." he said giving him a bit of a look, but then smiled. "I have the money though." he paused for a moment. "I told you you deserved a reward right? Well..." he motioned with his head towards the little girl in the cage. "That's a reward right?"

He blinked, squinting at Vaden... Relations.... What on earth did that mean? Vaden was clearly uncomfortable with the subject, though. Whatever "relations" was it was not something to be talked about, then. Hm. He'd have ask someone else later. "I dunno what you mean but okay." He shrugged.
He stared up at him blankly, "I do understand what I mean, Vaden." That earned the older boy an eyeroll. But he was quick to shapen up at the mention of getting the flitterat as a reward for good behavior. "Wait. What?? You'd get it for me?? I thought-- you tricked me." His emotions cycled between overly excited to upset he'd been duped into thinking they were going to the boutique shops.
"...But you do mean it??" And then the final blip of emotion, suspicion. Not even Vaden could escape his natural suspicion that all good things were just a hoax.

At least Gany was willing to let the subject drop, unfortunately he was also using the tone that meant he was going to ask someone else. Ohgods he felt bad for whoever ended up explaining this to Gany.
He accepted the eyeroll, but snorted a bit in response. He watched Gany flick between emotions and then nodded. "I did, yes. I'm sorry, but I wanted it to be a surprise and it wouldn't be much of a surprise if I told you it was going to happen." he sighed a bit. "Yes, I mean it. I will buy her for you along with a cage, a better lock, some bedding and food to start you off, after that she's your responsibility to look after. I'll help if you have any questions, but she's your pet so you'll have to look after her." he gave him a look trying to convey how serious he was being. Pets were something far to many kids under took lightly and it wasn't the kids who suffered for it, it was the animals they swore to love and care for.
"I think you're ready for this responsibility." he said. "Am I right in thinking so?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

Ganymede watched him carefully, analyzing, looking for any hint that he wasn't being serious... but he was. And it made him feel...... touched? Valued? He wasn't sure of the word, but it wasn't every day that something like this happened. "Oh..."
He averted his gaze to the cage, watching the flitterat... He did want her. He'd admittedly been thinking about getting a flitterat of his own since Vaden introduced him to Charo... "Yes. I do want her." He looked back to Vaden, and nodded solemnly. "I'll take care of her, I promise. You're not wrong." He nodded again, very serious of course.

Vaden nodded satisfied at the answer he got. "Okay." he stood up and pointed towards one of the aisles. "Let's go pick you out a cage and accessories." he took Gany's hand and took him over and looked over the selection. It was a little thin, but there was at least one decent one that should hold up to the little lady if she was as smart as Vaden thought she might be.
After that it was bedding, food, and a water bottle. "Do you have any old socks?" Vaden asked Gany. He figured he did, but he might not, the academy seemed to be on top of such things as holey socks so it was possible Gany didn't have anything suitable for the task he was thinking of. "If you don't, do you have an old shirt you might not want or something along those lines?"
He deposited the items on the counter and then got the attention of a clerk to fish out the little pink rat out of the enclosure.

"Ah, okay..." He trailed after Vaden, happy to pick out a cage for his flitterat-to-be. He watched as Vaden pointed out the good ones, and tried to help with picking out bedding, food, and he grabbed a little rat toy he thought that was good. "Oh, uhh...." He thought for a moment... Most of his old things got removed the instant they became old....
"I think so. I tried turning some of them into projects but I have them still." He nodded, then tilted his head curiously. "Why do I need old clothes?"

Again he wasn't surprised at Gany having to wonder if he even had anything old that he didn't want. "To help acclimate her to your scent. I usually give my new rats a sock to tear up to use as their bedding. She's going to be used to sleeping in a big pile so she'll get lonely and cold, so the warmer and safer she feels the happier she'll be, and the faster she gets used to the way you smell the less likely she'll bite you unless she's sick or feeling off. For the moment while she knows people mean food and water, she won't be used to being handled over much, because the shop keeper can't possibly play with every rat. Granted she could be very social and take to you instantly, but most of them need to go through a period of adjustment."
He looked back at the clerk who still seemed to be a bit baffled. "Are you sure you want that one? She's trouble, keeps getting out of the cage."
Vaden nodded. "I assure you, we're well prepared to handle that, so yes, please, the little pink one."
He waited as the clerk went and fished out the little rat and brought her back and put her in a carrying cage. Vaden took it by the handle and handed it to Gany while he settled the bill.

"Ohh..." He nodded, blinking as he thought that over. He supposed that it did make sense? "Ah... she won't be lonely with something that smells like me in there?" He tiled his head, that part didn't really make sense that much. Getting used to him, sure. Not being lonely? Hmm..
He watched the clerk get his new flitterat, then carefully took the carrying case from Vaden. Suddenly he felt as though he had to be terribly careful, far more careful than he'd ever been before... So this was responsibility? He supposed it wasn't that bad... "Thank you Vaden." He smiled a little, and lifted up the carrying case to peer inside one of the little breathing holes.
