spaceAdalaide watched as her fifth years entered the classroom, seated behind the desk, what appeared to be a cherry lollipop in her mouth. On the desk, to lessen any suspicion concerning the 'treat', she had a jar of similar looking lollipops, of various flavors, with a small sign indicating that, should they be inclined, students were free to take one. It served a dual purpose; making her own seem less notable, and hopefully endearing herself to the students. She knew that she'd made a fairly good impression last year, at least, but she'd like to keep it up. She wanted her students to like her, after all.
spaceOnce everyone was settled, she waved her wand, and a set of instructions appeared on the board."Welcome back, everyone. Today, we'll not be brewing any potions. Instead, we're going to learn about Everlasting Elixirs. These are potions which have been charmed to either never run out, or for their effect to never wear off. We'll be learning about the spell to achieve this effect. I'm going to demonstrate the proper technique a couple of times, and instructions are on the board for you all to copy down and keep for future reference."She retrieved her wand from it's place sticking out of her bun, and stepped behind her desk. On it, a cauldron sat, filled with a simple boil-cure."You each have a couple of small cauldrons filled with a Boil-Cure Potion on your desk. You'll be using these to practice. I want you to be very sure that you have the pronunciation and motion down properly before actually attempting the spell, as consequences of an improperly cast charm can be dangerous. The incantation is as follows: 'Ay-TERN-um.' Say it a few times to ensure that you're pronouncing it correctly. Once you have that down, you'll move on to the wand movement. Tap the cauldron twice, then make a circle above it. When you're comfortable, attempt the spell on the two potions on your desk, bottle a portion of each, and label them with your house, name, year, and Attempt One or Two."Adalaide hoped she'd been clear in her instructions with this. She wasn't bad at charms, not by a long shot, but she was infinitely better at instructions for potions. But, she supposed that she'd find out soon enough. Hopefully, nobody made any crucial mistakes. Thankfully, the potions were just boil-cures. There wasn't much that could go wrong if the students were overzealous with their attempts.

Lesson 1 : Everlasting Elixers
Spell Information:
• Name of the spell - Aeternum • Pronunciation of the spell - Ay-TERN-um • Meaning behind the name - forever, always, eternally, for ever, also, perpetually • Effects of the spell - It casts an enchantment that causes potions to last longer than their intended duration ie: Everlasting Elixers. • Wand movements required to preform properly - Tapping your wand twice on the cauldron and then make a circle above the potion. • History behind the spell - It was made by an irate witch that hated it when she had to take a potion several times a day for pain. Unfortunately, the spell worked so well, that while she succeeded in making the potion last indefinitely, it had the unfortunate effect of making her numb to all pain and caused her death a year later since she didn't feel it when she got whalloped by a Whomping Willow. However, the spell has been refined since, leading to more controlled effects of long-lasting potions. • Is there a distance requirement? - You have to be in close proximity to the potion for it to work. • Are the effects lasting? - It is just as the spell description suggests. • Anything else? - It is a very tricky spell, requiring exceptional concentration since a miscast can have serious, even deadly consequences.

Siobhan'Hannah'Grey Hufflepuff Prefect │ Fifth Year │ Fifteen Years Old │ Single
'I'm never going to get used to these midnight Potions classes,' thought Hannah when she trudged through the dungeons. Thankfully she hadn't far to go from her warm Common Room to the dungeon where the Potions class was, unlike the Ravenclaws or the Gryffindors, but still...
At least Professor Whitethorne was nice, and she kept a jar of lollipops on her desk.
Hannah was glad she wouldn't be called upon to brew a potion, but she did stare blearily at the chalkboard at the notations on the subject of Everlasting Elixirs. It didn't look like it was the easiest of Charms to work when fully awake, let alone half-asleep. Needless to say, she was a bit nervous when it was time to start attempting to cast the spell upon the potions set before her...

Cy had always been rather weak at Potions, much to his disappointment. His mother was remarkably skilled with them; you would think that sort of thing might be genetic, but none of her children had ever seemed to show much talent for them. At least this particular lesson involved charms, which he happened to be very, very good at. It was probably his best subject, other than Healing. He took a seat near Hannah Grey, who was so petite and baby faced she looked more like a first or second year, rather than a fifth year. "Ay-TERN-um," he cast calmly on the cauldron in front of him, fighting back a yawn.

╔══════════════╗ Potions V Lesson Two: Draught of Peace Thursday, Block Eight, 11:00pm to 11:45pm ╚══════════════╝
”Hello students, I'm Professor Amorocho, your Ravenclaw Head of House. Unfortunately, Professor Whitethorne has fallen ill and has taken time off to recover. In the meantime, I will be substituting your class. Now, I believe last week you covered Everlasting Elixers, correct?” He waited half a moment, just long enough to gauge any shrugs or nods from the students before continuing on. ”Good. This week, you're going to learn how to brew the Draught of Peace. This potion is used to relieve anxiety, stress, and agitation. But let me tell you now, too much of anything is always a bad thing. So while, yes, this potion is very useful, it should always be used with caution and under supervision. Such as calming victims of a traumatic attack or experience so they may adequately explain themselves to the proper authorities; it's proven beneficial for mind healers to use this potion to help people learn to cope; it's even used by the healers here in Hogwarts to help fifth and seventh years to help overcome the stress of their upcoming exams.”
He paused then, clasped his hands together and with a stern look, gazed out across the sea of students. ”With potions like these, less is always better. Some people can develop a dependency on the potion if taken too much, too often. A quick fix should never be the solution to a problem. So, if you ever find yourself, or anyone you know, who may have this problem, please, don't be afraid to seek help...
"Now that that's out of the way, if you've copied down your notes you're free to begin working. Ingredients are in the cupboard, the instructions are on the board and in your textbooks. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to ask either myself, or one of your classmates.”

Di was going to manage an Exceeds Expectations on her Potions OWL. She was determined to. Never mind the fact that she'd never quite excelled at the class. She had to be decent enough to at least get an EE. Acceptables.... weren't really all that acceptable to her. Root beer flavored lollipop in her mouth, she was relieved to hear that they would actually be learning a charm this class, not doing any real brewing. She was no Charms genius, either, but she'd always done better in Charms than in Potions. She succeeded with the charm on the second try, thoughtfully chewing on the lolly stick.

spaceAdalaide was feeling much more confident this week, which she supposed only made sense. She'd met all her students, at least recognized most of their faces, knew a couple of names. More to the point, she didn't think she'd aroused any suspicion thus far, which was good. Once everyone was seated, the blonde stood and circled around to stand in front of her desk, leaning back on it, a hand resting on the surface to support her. The other reached to her bun and pulled her wand out, giving it a flick to write the day's instructions on the board.
space"Welcome back, everyone. Today, you'll be learning about and brewing what is known as the Draught of Peace. The potion is used to relieve anxiety and agitation, and is very popular for helping among those who suffer from anxiety attacks. Historically, it has had many uses. It's been used to calm victims of attacks so that they may more effectively explain what happened to them, to help people learn to cope with traumatic events..."The Hufflepuff smirked faintly."It has even, at this very school, been used to help students overcome stress regarding their upcoming exams,"she chirped, somewhat amused by this. Her expression turned serious again, however, fingers tapping on the desktop behind her."However, like anything used to relieve suffering, it can be dangerous; some people become reliant on potions of this nature, and abuse them to remain calm in situations where they would rather take the easy solution than actually cope with their anxiety. With potions like this, it is always best used sparingly, only in situations where it is absolutely necessary."She paused, pursing her lips, then continued on with the actual lesson, figuring there was no need to harp on the subject of the dangers of potions."The potion itself can be quite complicated, so don't worry too much if you find yourself unsure of what you're doing. If you have any questions or trouble, feel free to ask for help, either from myself or a classmate. When the potion is complete, it should be a white in color. You may collect your supplies from the cupboard and begin."She watched the students prepare to begin brewing, and moved to sit at her desk. Hopefully, nothing exploded... that did tend to happen in Potions classes on occasion.

Fianna Grey Gryffindor │ Fifth Year │ Fifteen Years Old │ Single
There were better things Fianna could have thought of doing at midnight on a Thursday night, with being in her warm bed sleeping probably topping her list, and yet here she was tromping down to the dungeons for her Potions class. It was a good thing she was a good study at it, else being a little sleepy in class could be potentially dangerous, and she needed to be on her A-game this year. Fianna was determined to post an Exceeds Expectations on her Potions OWL, as she needed the class, and it wouldn't do for the granddaughter of a potioneer to get any less. 'Acceptable' just wouldn't be ... well, acceptable. It also helped she liked Professor Whitethorne, as it made the class go a bit easier for her. "Evening, Professor," she said to the teacher, being reasonably awake and chipper, having taken a nap after dinner so she was functional.
Even though they weren't mixing up potions this class, Fianna still paid rapt attention, as the Charm they were studying could go hideously sideways if botched. Still and all, she was rather nervous casting the charm, and it took her a second try to get a satisfactory result. Fianna knew she would need to do better than that if she wanted to do well on her OWL.

space"Welcome back, everyone.

Fianna wasn't feeling particular sanguine about attempting tonight's lesson, despite having studied up on the Draught of Peace prior to her midnight sojourn to the freezing cold dungeons. The damp and cold seemed to cut through to the bone even though she took the precaution of adding an extra sweater, though thankfully her cauldron would grant sufficient warmth she wouldn't need to worry about working with frozen-stiff fingers. Fianna managed to score a jar of sour cherry hard candies which she brought with her and set on Professor Whitethorne's desk as she arrived, figuring she'd appreciate the gesture.
Once she tucked into the assignment, she found herself humming a little tune she'd worked out to help her remember the steps for making the potion. She'd been doing this for the other potions she'd learned, knowing she might not have the luxury of having her notes for the OWL. Despite her little sing-song chant, she faltered during the process; there were several very similar steps in succession ('Just how many times was powdered moonstone and powdered porcupine quills used?'), and as late as it was it was easy to mis-remember where she was in working out the recipe. She'd have to work out a refrain in her chant, obviously.
It took three tries, including a rather disastrous second attempt that nearly detonated in her cauldron, before she got the white potion the professor was seeking from her. Fianna was completely worn out from the experience, and when she handed in her potion for credit she had a much un-looked-forward-to hike all the way back to Gryffindor Tower before she could crawl into her nice, warm bed.

Turn your magic on, to me she'd say "Everything you wants a dream away Under this pressure, under this weight We are diamonds"
spaceAdalaide watched as her fifth years entered the classroom, seated behind the desk, what appeared to be a cherry lollipop in her mouth.
- It is a very tricky spell, requiring exceptional concentration since a miscast can have serious, even deadly consequences.

spaceAdalaide was feeling much more confident this week, which she supposed only made sense.
