"Oh, Yes. Well. I, um arrived in Delta shortly before the so-called 'day zero', in one of Mark's golems, and ended up joining the civilian group that used a mall for their base of operations. I used the alias Shawn Wilson, or 888. My mission was to... find the location of the Grail."
There was a lot he could have said, about the forty or so civilians that had ended up under his oversight, the true nature of the 'green eyes' virus, and the pitfalls awaiting them in every zone of the fallen city. But none of it was relevant to what he assumed Caelius wanted to hear.
"I think I know where it was." He shifted uncomfortably. "I think it never moved from where it was all along. There's a very tall tower, in Delta. I believe it's the same place Charlotte was before - um, you were there, and Gale, and Rep, and I. It was, uh, full of vines at the time. There was a network of them, like a brain, but bigger. But it looks like the same place as before. I checked - I checked all the rooms there. Same marble meeting room, same garden. A lot of dead Ouroboros in grey uniforms. Notes about people being replaced. Something happened there, I'm not sure what, but I think they sacrificed a lot of their own people. To the Grail. I'm not sure why. But there were obvious signs of Ouroboros involvement in the area before that. Some civilians had access to runic weapons with red runes."
Another pause. Remembering this also brought back the memory of being disassembled and harvested by the Legacy, and the disconcerting way it seemed to get inside their heads and read them from the inside. Unwelcome, unlike their weapons. "Also, about the Grail... it kept repeating something, about knowing of a secret weapon. That it will find it... It was in all of our heads."
"There's more, in the report," he added unhelpfully to fill the silence that followed.
