In the Garden of Monsters

At first glance the women's words seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. Seconds after hge had stepped into the establishment the young Argyle had once more magically produced the feather duster from his sleeve, and was presently cleaning the rack where the Noctowl was perched. It was taking all his willpower not to go on a cleaning frenzy in this place. Granted he liked the relative dimness and colour choices, but dust was unacceptable in the eyes of any proper butler.

When the women spoke to him again however, post telling off the Noctowl, the boy would pivot sharply on one heel. Reaching out, Argyle would gingerly remove a mote of dust from the women's ruffled headpiece, looking her in the eye as he stated in a cool monotone "I'm looking for Marco."

">And apparently you're looking for a new cleaner. Whoever you had before did a crap job<" Jekyll would comment from the boy's shoulder. Putting a hand over his eyes to block out the nonexistent light, the Poison-type would scout about before adding ">Think you're gonna need a bigger duster kiddo. Anyone got a spare Pelipper?<" For a moment the Croagunk would actually look to the various patrons as if he were serious; but seeming to lose interest in the answer, Jekyll would turn back to the women ">Oh, and I don't do windows. Mostly because he gets to them first.<"

Bio:The story of how Argyle met Jekyll is a bit of an odd one. After purchasing a bulk shipment of skin rejuvenating mud from Sinnoh's Great Marsh (Guarnteed to take twenty years off your appearance!), Mistress Rosevelt had set aside some time for a fully immersive experience with the product, during which she received quite the surprise. It would seem the mud had come with stowaway in the form of an egg. Unfortunately it was about this same time the egg decided to hatch, splattering the aristocratic woman with muck and eggshell. After a shriek and shrill cry for the nearest Argyle to attend her, Verde arrived and was immediately ordered to dispose of the creature, although not before cleaning up the mess it had created. Whispering a snide remark just below his breath, both Mistress and Argyle were in for a surprise when the newly born Croagunk began to snicker devilishly. It seemed the Poison-type had heard the boy, and shared his sense of humor. Amused by this fact the young Butler then went about the task of convincing Mistress Rosevelt that the Croagunk would be quite useful in his regular duties, allowing him to make the manor to "shine as radiantly as you do Mistress Rosevelt". Little more in the way of convincing was required on the boy's part, and so he obtained his first and for the time being only Pokemon.

Since then Jekyll has proven a good match for Argyle, frequently snickering at the boy's comments be they made aloud, or simply implied. Unlike Argyle however Jekyll does nothing to hide his wicked nature, frequently mocking others quite openly and then laughing about it. Though cruel he is not crude, and more than willingly to amuse himself by catching the enemy off guard.

If the waitress understood Jekyll, she gave no sign of it... though from the way the Noctowl was now staring at the Croagunk, it was likely he did. And from the way he was licking his beak... the woman swatted the odd owl again, before giving Argyle an annoyed look. "If you're here for the job... you're like twelve. And it wasn't a cleaning job, it was a bartending gig. Can't hire you." She made a dismissive gesture were her hand, motioning towards the door. "Make like a tree and get out of here, kid. Marco's got better things to do than talk to you."

"You know that's a lie, Silv." The door had opened, and the smoking man Argyle'd encountered earlier stood behind the pair of them. He'd put out the deathstick, and looked quite a bit calmer. "Silvia, don't I pay you for something? Something that isn't harassing customers?"

The tall woman, Silvia, rolled her amber eyes. "You don't pay me damn near enough for that," she snarked, but took a step back. "Dylan okay?"

"He'll be fine. I sent Lenore after him," the man remarked, giving her a nod.

She sighed, but gave a nod. "Fine." Louder than she probably needed to, she turned on her heel and pushed back into the crowd.

He heaved a sigh, running his hand through his pale hair, before giving Argyle a surprisingly friendly look. "I'm Marco. Who are you, and why are you in my store?"

In the Garden of Monsters

Argyle would raise an eyebrow when the man said the word 'store'. Oh granted that was what it looked like from the outside certainly, but he'd hardly call it such a thing. Either way, the boy would take a moment before replying to the older man. He'd need a second to rub out the teeth marks from his tongue, he'd been chewing on it in order to resist more than a few comments directed at the waitress. Really, the women clearly didn't know the first thing about proper service.

Once the pain receded from his tongue, Argyle would place one hand over his heart, bowing low as if to a superior before stating in a clear voice "My name is Verde Argyle III. My exact instructions were to ask for you sir, and inform you that 'Iris sent me' " As he said that last part, the boy would actually go so far as to perform air quotes, indicating it was a direct quote.

While Argyle went about the formalities, Jekyll had turned around on Argyle's shoulder, watching 'Silvia' as he commented in a rather dry fashion for an amphibian ">Ain't she just a bucket of sunshine<" This was of course followed by a far louder ">Are you sure you're old enough to work here!? You've got the manners of a 9 year old!<" Not that Jekyll was a good judge. Partially because he didn't have any himself, and partially because he was riding shotgun with the most well mannered twelve year old in the world.....at least when adults were watching.

At the word "Iris", what little color Marco had drained from his face, and he frowned slightly. "What does that bi--" He halted suddenly, remembering that he was in front of a kid, and why exactly that psychopath would be sending children into his shop. "Right, right, you're from the Academy, aren't you." It didn't sound like a question, but more a physical manifestation of frustration. "Told me she'd send me a heads-up before... eh, whatever. This way." He'd turn around, casually motioning for the boy to follow him.

Marco led the way to the back of Idle Hands, navigating the crowd with practiced eased. Folks simply seemed to just get out of his way, though there WERE several eyes on him wondering why exactly he was leading this foreign child to... well, the back of the room. This close to the back wall, it became apparent that they weren't completely lined with book shelves-- a dark, shadowed gap in the line worked as the entrance to a path. Between the dark lighting, the dim coloration, and the crowd in front, it was almost impossible to see unless you were right next to it. Without hesitation, Marco lead the way into a tunneled hallway which dipped down in a steep slope.

For some time, he'd walk in silence down the darkened hallway. It wasn't particularly easy to see, but he'd spent enough time down here that he didn't need the light. Finally, he'd come to the end of the hall. Two doors sat on either side of the hall-- from behind the left, one could hear the tell-tale shouts and physical noise of fighting. The right door, which Marco took, was far more subdued...

... at least on the outside. On the inside, well... The room Marco entered felt barely big enough for multiple people, and not just because it was uncomfortably small. Rather, the room was decked out from floor to ceiling in weaponry. Blades of all sizes and colors, guns from derringers to hand-cannons, sharp spears, gloves built for fisticuffs, grenades, brass knuckles, what seemed to be a flamethrower... this was quite a cache. But that wasn't all-- strange vials of liquids, papers scrawled with red ink, bags bulging with something... taking a closer look might reveal what was going on, but it clearly wasn't legitimate. It seemed the frontroom was quite literally that-- a front for Marco's more clandestine activities. And that didn't even cover what was going on in the other room. These hands weren't as idle as they seemed.

"So!" Marco remarked cheerfully, leaning back against a counter that seemed to be nearly drowning under papers and heavy equipment. "I'm going to guess Iris didn't tell you why you're here?" He smiled, the sort of grin that didn't reach his eyes... from the casual way he spoke about her, it seemed he'd had some experience with the icy woman. "Typical. Anyway, in case you didn't know, you're here to receive a weapon. Something about you being in Longinus, the soldier class?" He shrugged; he'd only heard about the Academy through second-hand informants. "Whatever. Regardless, I'm here to help you make your custom weapon... though it's not just going to be anything. Iris gave me orders, and I got rules. Could you release your starter?"

In the Garden of Monsters

Argyle would follow Marco in relative silence as they walked down the long dark passage. The only sound was the clicking of his shoes against the floor, and well that couldn't be helped. Arms held casually behind his back, Argyle would view the weapons with a surprisingly placid expression, commenting dryly to himself "...the devil's work indeed." After that the boy would fall into silence again, arching a brow when Marco asked to see his starter.

A moment of absolute quiet would pass before Argyle would turn his head, Jekyll doing the same as they shared a look, then in perfect unison looked at Marco. The silence stretched a moment longer before the boy would and his Croagunk would look back at one another, the former gesturing to the later as if giving him permission.

Raising one hand to his mouth, Jekyll would cough as if clearing his throat. Then, gingerly, the Croagunk would remove the spectacles from the end of his nose and hold them out towards Marco ">Here, I think you may need these more than I do<" It didn't matter to the Fighting-Type that the lenses of his specs were fake, they certainly couldn't make this man's vision any worse. ">Might wanna get your eyes checked. Maybe get some better lighting in here. I'm thinking fluorescent bulbs! They could go on the ceiling! No need for mirrors to enhance the lighting! Just polish up your....<" The Croagunk looked about as if searching for the right word ">...collection.<"

Nodding after confirming that Jekyll was done his piece, Argyle would politely gesture towards the Croagunk with the hand opposite to the side the Pokemon was perched on "This sir, would be my starter."

"... well, they can't all be winners." It was unclear if Marco was referring to Jekyll himself, the Croagunk's flippancy, Argyle's attitude, or something else entirely, but there was a lightly sardonic tone to his voice. He'd shake his his before looking down at the mess of papers on the counter before him. Probably should organize before actual customers came in; Iris's new pets didn't really count. "Fighting-type starter means... gloves." He raised an eyebrow, contemplating briefly. "Boxing gloves, more streamlined battle gloves... could probably manage some brass knuckles if you brought me some extra stuff." He'd been more talking to himself that the kid in front of him-- these were the first weapons he'd been requested to design for the Academy in a while, and he needed to get his head cleared.

Thus satisfied, he'd look back up at Argyle. "Here's the way it's going to go-- you're going to bring me back the materials I need for your weapon, and I'll make it." He wouldn't have minded just using the materials he had on hand, but he was a busy guy... and Iris had explicitly said "don't make it easy on them". Typical. But this wouldn't stop him from pushing against her collar. "If you don't want that weapon... well, you're going to have to make a good case for it, and I'll probably need more items for it, but you can try me." He smirked. "But if you aren't going to be a problem, I need two items-- a Lucky Punch and a Silk Scarf. You can find them at Curious Curios and Rag-and-Bone, two stores not far from here. I, uh... you have a map, or something?" Marco couldn't in good conscience let a kid wander around Ostglass without some kind of guide "Aaaaaaaaand I'm supposed to give you... these." He placed two Pokeballs in front of Argyle. "Have fun, and all that. Any questions?"

Giving a gentle nod in order to establish that he understood Marco's instructions, the boy would state in a polite yet flat tone "Gloves will do just fine sir. A Butler must never unduly dirty their hands after all" This was not quite the context that rule was meant for, but the boy still felt it applied.

Once he had made this clear, he would loosen the draw strings on the cuff and collar bag at his side, unfolding the map Harlowe had bequeathed to him and presenting it for Marco's inspection. "The Professor felt it wise I know how to find my way here directly" He said. Honestly it was more along the lines of the women not wanting him to waste time getting lost, but that wasn't for him to say allowed....when anyone that mattered could hear him.

">Idle Hands, Curious Curios, Rag-and-Bone?<" Jekyll mused, quirking his eyes awkwardly ">You folks sure know how to name crap.<"

"Of course you mustn't." Marco remarked with an arched eyebrow. Iris would send him the weird ones, the sadistic b***h. But just because he had to help these kids didn't mean he was going to tolerate their idiosyncrasies quietly.

Still, at least he was prepared. Or Iris was prepared, and the kid didn't lose things. Grabbing a red pen from the desk, he leaned over and circled two areas one the map-- each on the other side of the city. "Curios is to the west, Rag-and-Bone is to the east," he said, motioning to each in turn. Realizing he'd been leaning out a key fact, he stated, "And if you need to heal up your Pokemon, come back here. If you go to the bar, I can get one of my men to heal up your Pokemon for free. We're cheaper than the Center, and you don't have to deal with... well, not everyone'd be happy to help some kid from the Academy." He pulled back, looking down at Argyle evenly. "Any questions?"

[As it did for Idle Hands, getting to either of your next destinations will require five non-combat rolls through the streets (using the same encounter list). Decide which place you're going to first, and get going when you're ready.]

"None at all sir" The bot, bowing as he continued "If that is all I shall depart post haste. The sooner I complete my task, the sooner I might return to your....fine upstanding establishment" Surprisingly when Argyle said it, he sounded rather convincing.

Jekyll of course knew better, and began snickering on the boy's shoulder.

Argyle would then leave without another word to Marco or anyone else. Only when he was back outside on the street would he look to the Croagunk on his shoulder and ask "So Curios or Rag-and-bone?

">So do we give the dog a bone?<" Jekyll croaked, smirking slightly.

"Well curiosity killed that cat, and I can't say I'm not curious" Argyle muttered, smirking to himself. His destination set, the boy would head off to the west.

">So we're going to learn there's more than one way to skin a cat?<" He asked, snickering in his usual ribbiting fashion.

A striking Glameow looked the pair over disdainfully from her perch on an awning. All this riffraff, wasting their time on the ground. The only way to travel was across the rooftops! She'd give a playful "hmph~!" before leaping way ontop a nearby rooftop. But scorn aside, there was nothing stopping Argyle from moving forward.

Argyle's eyes would narrow on the feline looking down on them from on high. It filled him with a deep desire to wipe the smug expression of it's furry face. Thankfully the Mistress had never owned one of the retched things....not that he could say the same about many of her social contacts.

Still, before long the creature was gone and so was Argyle's chance to make it a dust-mop. Attempting to soothe his more negative feelings, the boy would proceed forward.

Jekyll however couldn't stop snickering. After so many references to cats, the timing of the Glameow was simply spectacular. Alas he couldn't test outhow many ways he DID know how to skin a cat. ">There go my new violin strings<"

Unlike Argyle however Jekyll does nothing to hide his wicked nature, frequently mocking others quite openly and then laughing about it. Though cruel he is not crude, and more than willingly to amuse himself by catching the enemy off guard.

In the Garden of Monsters

Argyle would walk easily through the streets. That came as somewhat of a surprise given the bustling nature of the city. Though that kept the filth down. Someone really needed to clean up this place. Both figuratively and literally. Though he supposed it was the very scum of this place that allowed the organization to do business without being noticed. Times certainly had changed; at least according to the history books. As much as they changed however, some things always stayed the same.

Starter Pokemon: Croagunk [M]
Name & Level: Jekyll, Lv 5
[Temperament] Naughty

In the Garden of Monsters

The most curious thing here didn't seem to be the curios,m but that Argyle still hadn't met a single road block since the Glameow. Even that had been more of a distraction. Why was he suddenly possessed by the urge to ramble at length about useless ingredients for soups and stews?

A low, playful giggle echoed out over the streets. For as Argyle walked down the loneliest of roads, he'd be able to see pile of trash begin to shudder and shake. A Trubbish burst out of the heap, somersaulting to land in front of the odd youth. She landed with a flourish, unable to control her snickers as she looked up at the boy. >You smell greaaaaaaat~< she remarked in a sing-song voice. Whether the boy remembered or not, he'd been briefly covered in trash, and this amorous little Poison type was picking up on that scent. She shuffled forward, arms spread wide. Apparently, he'd have to put up with her advances... or suffer the consequences.
