Entry: [Have your character either meet a child at the orphanage, OR write a letter describing their wish to become a parent.] Einridi chewed his lip and eyed the letter again, trying to decide if he should send it. There were a lot more qualified parents, but... then again, nothing ventured nothing gained, and he had rarely been the type to let nerves hold him back. You learned by doing, and sometimes the learning came from the failures. Even if he didn't walk away from this a parent, he'd learn something. My name is Einridi, I'm... not sure where else to start. I was a Cashe child, and I know that may... make me possibly less qualified than others who weren't to be taking in a child, but it won't be for lack of trying. I suppose I could argue I've seen more types of being a parent figure than I would have had I not been raised by caretakers. They certainly didn't leave me lacking in love or encouragement, and I'd like to pass that along to someone who needs it. Our world is a big and wonderful place and it would be wonderful to re-experience some of those wonders with someone who hasn't seen them before but would like to, whenever they're ready. I've certainly got enough stories in the mean time, and can share a few interesting stories to make studies go by faster. I make a pretty decent chili too, but I hope we can pass on pancakes unless you like them with ceiling plaster. Apparently there are some things that could be approached with a hair less enthusiasm I guess.
I've got a room ready, if someone says yes, maybe we can decorate it together? Your own space, I remember how much that can mean. Maybe you'll consider doing it with me, maybe with someone else.
Best of luck I guess, I'm not the best at this.
-Einridi. ((TwT If this doesn't work than just disregard.))

Dorian was not sure he should be following advice given to him by a man he had only met as a friend of a friend who knew of a story where this had all ended in a warm, heartfelt tale of love and wonder. To Dorian, children were curious little things prone to being awkward and often confusing as they never seemed to able to decide if they really just wanted something because it was their, or because someone else had it first.
In that sense okay, he wasn't too different than children but they were small he was not and they needed help with things and had to get fed and dressed and bathed and- As Dorian walked up to the orphanage he sighed heavily tapping a bit of dirt from his shoes. He wanted to take care of someone. He was lonely, and kids needed role-models. He was an excellent one. That's what he'd been told anyway, and he had the income to support a child and well- the kids needed homes. He had one and a room for said child. It would help them and help him. Give him something to look forward to.
He'd done his research, done his numbers, his counseling, he was positive he could do this even if he was.. hesitant. It would be good it would be.- A small tug on his pant leg showed he'd already attracted one. It made him stop walking peering down at the youngling with a sort of suspicion. Did children just latch onto people like that? They shouldn't, what if they attached to a leg and got knocked over? "Pardon, but you would mind letting go of my leg?" The chil looked up at him and slowly, let go of his pant. They remained fixated, staring at Dorian until after a short while, Dorian realize they were just sort of... not doing much. "...Do you want to go inside?" A tiny nod of the head, yet no movement. Yet another sigh passed Dorian's lips as he offered his hand down. "You may hold my hand if you like. Holding my pant leg and I'd have just knocked you over." The reaction was immediate, tiny hands grabbing his own and getting as close as possible yet remaining out of the way for walking.
It was cute in a way, and had Dorian smiling a bit. Children, really, such fickle things.

Adela somewhat anxiously waited outside the orphanage. She had never known her own parents - becoming one for another lost child seemed like the perfect thing to do now that she was out of the Academy. She inhaled, briefly, and then pushed the door open.
Whether she was qualified to be a parent was up in the air - she thought so, certainly, because she had room in her house and her heart. But she was also young, and inexperienced, and maybe this wasn't the best idea she'd ever had. But that was okay, because surely part of being a first-time parent was learning as you went. And these kids needed someone. It might as well be her.
It took her a moment, but there was a little girl sitting alone at a table, doodling. Adela sat down, across from her, making sure they were at eye level rather than her looming over. She didn't want to scare the little thing, or make them nervous, not first off - that would be disastrous when she wanted to be a good mother.
"Hello there." She said, and the girl looked up, with wide, surprised eyes. "Do you like to draw?" The girl nodded, and Adela gave a gentle smile. "So do I. I'm not very good," she laughed, "but it's still fun." Common interests would be important, after all.
"You'll get better if you practice," the child said, as if they had the wisdom of very many years. It was adorable, and did more to charm her than anything else so far. That was the certainty of someone who had heard the same advice many, many times in her young life, and that she was passing it on so sagely made Adela laugh, a little.
"Maybe we can practice together," Adela suggested. The girl lit up, nodding excitedly.
"Okay!" She said, pushing over a pile of papers and some crayons. Adela started doodling idly, the beginnings of a flitterrat. They sat in easy silence, except for a few moments of sharing drawings and giggling with each other, until Adela finished hers.
"Do you have a name, sweetie?" She asked, her voice still gentle.
"Yes," the little girl said, and then she turned her picture around to show Adela -- a group of wisps, all in different colors. "It's Shaila."
"Well, Shaila," Adela said, "would you like to come home with me?" The little girl lit up, even brighter than when Adela had offered to draw with her.
"Oh, yes! Yes, please!" She said, and she dropped her crayons and ran around the table, leaping into Adela's arms. She squeezed the little girl tight in a warm hug.
Yes, this felt like a very good idea.

Alex tapped the pen to his bottom lip in thought as he stared at the blank paper on the desk before him. He had thought long and hard on what he was about to do and even though he had come to the conclusion that yes, he was going to try to adopt, he hadn't figured out the way he would word the letter. At least not in a way that perfectly clicked. He purposefully didn't look at the balled up paper sitting in his trash can as he once again put the pen to the paper and started to write.
~Hello,
My name is Alex and while I have no partner, and I have no living family left, I would very much love to give an orphan a family of their own. I would ask to be allowed to adopt so that one less child would be left feeling unwanted, unloved, and alone. Any child I adopt would never be left wanting love, or left needing any necessities. Any child I welcome into my house would find themselves welcomes with open arms, someone willing to spend time with them, someone to help them grow up to be the best they could be. If I can give a child a happy, loving, fulfilling existence, then I would be very grateful.
Thank you for your time, Alex~
While Alex wasn't sure they would pick a child out for him or if they would have him come in to meet the children to choose, he decided to make a letter for any child he might be allowed to adopt as well. No matter what he planned on making sure any child he adopts gets it and he started to write the letter with a soft smile.
~~Hello little one, My name is Alex and I hope you are as excited to be coming home with me as I am. I promise to always be there for you no matter the circumstances. Don't be afraid to let me know of your likes and dislikes, your hobbies and your dreams. I promise to help you achieve your goals to the best of my abilities, to help you reach for the star should you choose. I look forward to becoming a family with you, even if a small one, so lets give it our all. Your ....~~
He paused as he finished the second letter, unsure how to end it. Would it be presumptuous to address is a 'your father'? Should he go with something more neutral? After a few minutes of thought he finally ended the letter with these last words:
~~...Your hopeful father Alex~~

It wasn't long after she entered the orphanage that Nora found herself being crowded by tiny Nightmares of all sorts. There were some that were noticeably mutated among the ones that weren't, but those sort of things never bothered her. Mutants were just as valuable to society as she was, and nobody could change her mind about that. A caretaker eventually shooed most of the children away so Nora could continue the tour, but before she could get too far down the hall, a face peering out from behind the curtains caught her eye. She knelt down and smiled.
"Hi there, sweetheart." She said, pulling the curtain aside. "What's your name?"
"... Milo." The freshling stuttered, his eyes moving toward the other children as they resumed playing. "W-who are you?"
"You can call me Nora, if you'd like." Nora replied, offering Milo a hand. "What are you doing behind the curtain? Don't you want to play with the others?"
Milo shook his head rapidly, but took the hand he was offered. Nora couldn't help but relate. She hadn't been very social as a freshling either, espescially since she'd been so afraid of being bullied by other children. However, maybe Milo wanted to do something else?
"... Do you like to draw, Milo?" She asked, pointing toward an empty table with crayon boxes stacked on it.
"Y-yes!" Milo exclaimed, grinning. "D-do you want to draw with me, Ms. Nora? I can draw trees really good! Everyone tells me so!"
"Of course, I would love to!" Nora laughed, allowing herself to be dragged toward the table.
The pair settled down at the table and started to draw. Milo drew a lovely forest picture with a river, while Nora opted to draw the cotton candy she'd seen at Haunted Hallow when she was little. They hung both of their drawings up on the wall and laughed as the other children 'ooed' and 'ahhed' at them. However, to Nora, the true masterpiece of the day was the smile stretched along Milo's face. Drawing was clearly something he loved and had a great deal of pride in. That sort of hobby could become a beautiful talent if it was given the right kind of nurturing, right? She smiled.
"You know, I see you becoming the next great artist, Milo." She said, giving the freshling's hair a fluff.
"R-really? Thank you!" Milo chirped, wiggling against Nora's hand. "... Do you think anyone else would think so?"
"Oh, absolutely." Nora replied, kneeling down to Milo's level. "You've got a lot of potential! If you keep practicing, I'm sure some really important people would like to see your art!"
"Okay! I... I think I'll go practice right now!" Milo cheered, wiggling off toward the table again. "See you later, Ms. Nora!"
"See you later, Milo!" Nora called, before shuffling off toward the main office. Though she'd seen more than enough to convince herself of the right choice, she wanted to have a few more meetings with this budding artist before she picked him up and took him home. It would give her time to make an proper playroom full of all the art supplies he'd need, too!

Entry: [Quest parents ahoy~]
The plan had always been for a large family. The trio had a lot of love to give and the quiet house was a sort of byproduct of this. Their daughter was off at college and the three of them were planning on buying a couple of soul stones in a month or so to continue on with the baby love. When Eudoxia and Berk had imbued the stone that became their daughter, Dana had entered their lives very shortly after. They had opted to wait to let their new arrangement settle and for them to best prepare their home for a child. To cement their bond and ties as a family, Dana was the one to awaken the stone so that each parent had a part in bringing their baby into the world. It had been beautiful.
After dinner Doxi had been sitting on the couch, awash in nostalgia as she flipped through the family album, she hadn't noticed when the menfolk in her life joined her on the sofa, at least until they leaned in to sandwich her properly. She had looked between the two of them, kissing them each on the cheek. "Remember her first flying lessons?" She asked, looking down at the lightly yellowed childish drawing tucked into the pages.
Berk, who had been acting flight instructor, laughed heartily at the memory and nodded with a sigh. Dana shook their head, patting their hand over the heart, though a smile graced their face. "By the Nine, I thought I was going to just about expire right then and there, but it was so very wonderful watching her learn. Just drinking in every lesson and trick you taught her, Berk." The two of them just beamed at the recollection.
With the parental love sufficiently warmed up, Doxi let go of the album to lace her fingers with those of the lights of her life. "My loves, I know the plan was to wait a month or so and buy a couple of stones for the three of us to imbue together, and I still very much want to do this, but what if we adopted as well? We can be a home and a family to some little orphan out there, give them the chance to have what we didn't when we were their age." Sure, the caretakers at the Academy had been wonderful, but there was something special to be said about parents. "They wouldn't be alone like Nel was. After they get settled and we're certain they're happy, we can still get the stones we're planning on. They'd have a couple of little siblings to play with." Her heart swelled at the thought of the sound of three or four little freshlings playing together, laughing, talking, each getting tucked into bed at night. "We can do it. I know we can. Don't you both think we've got room for another little light in our lives?"
The rest of the conversation was relatively brief, but enthusiastic and heartfelt. An accord was reached and the triad decided to divide and conquer. Doxi and Berk went to scope out rooms and spaces available within their home, while Dana slipped off to their study. The Litch withdrew a blank piece of paper and a pen, setting themselves to the task of writing a note to the orphanage to express their desire to adopt a child.
To whom it may concern -
I am writing to you on behalf of my family, those I already hold near and dear in my heart, and the member that has yet to find their way into our motley household. We've been of the mind to grow our family of late and that is our purpose writing to you now. We've never adopted before, but it's an avenue that we're eager to explore. None of us knew our own parents as youngsters, so becoming parents in our own right was exciting, very enlightening, and certainly taught us a thing or two. Now, with our daughter off in college, my partners and I feel we are ready to open our homes to a child in need of just that, a home, a family. Though we've seen our daughter through to university, we don't wish for the child raising chapter of our lives to end with her. This is why we are writing to you, whomever you may be, whatever job you may hold. I don't know how to best convey the sincerity of our desire. Just know that for the family member who has yet to come home to us, we will do our absolute best to provide all of the care and love they may need. There is no shortage of those things in this house. We're so looking forward to giving of ourselves again. Please help us to make our family more complete. Help us bring our family member-to be home.
Respectfully yours,
Satisfied he got the point across, Dana left plenty of space at the bottom of the letter beneath 'Respectfully yours , '. He signed his own signature, considered the note overall and brought it out to the kitchen where Doxi and Berk were standing, puzzling over room arrangements. The Litch smiled to their loves as they entered. "We should all sign, I feel, to let whomever may be in charge know that we're all in this together, a unified front." Extending the letter and pen out to their partners, they took a deep calming breath as the letter was given a looking over. "Does it look and sound alright?"
Doxi looked up from the letter, flashed him a winning smile, and plopped the letter down on the counter, signing it near the bottom alongside Dana's name. She slid it over to her Chimera mate, laying the pen down alongside the page. She moved to the Litch's side, taking their hands in hers. "It's pretty darn perfect, Dana. Thank you." She kissed him and looked to Berk as he finished signing his name.
The Chimera looked up, carefully folding the letter into thirds. "My darlin's, I think we've got a real chance here. Let's send this on and make an appointment to visit the kids while we're at it."

Entry: Madla stood before the doors of the orphanage, frowning slightly. The Geist's talk with her daughter had reminded her of a place she didn't think she'd return to, honestly. Still, she had to check the place out, had to see if it was nicer than she remembered. Madla hadn't had a very fun time at the orphanage, for various reasons (most her fault, probably) and she remembered it with poor favor. Stepping through the doors, it was both the same and different than the image she'd held in her mind.
The place was bright and filled with children, toys, books, activities and laughter. Most of the orphans were running around, some even eating a few pieces of candy. It was a far cry from her experience, but she had normally been grounded for stealing,so that probably wasn't saying much. Walking through, Madla stopped and chatted with a few of the bolder children, cooing over Halloween drawings and admiring the decorations the kids were doing. As she complemented a little bapho on their adorable drawing of a cat (black blob) on a jack-o-lantern (orange scribble) she caught the sound of a tiny whimper and a mean little laugh.
Turning, Madla caught one of the freshlings grabbing a paper from another freshling's hands and waving it around tauntingly. Well, she wasn't going to stand for that. Protective mother instincts activated, she came up behind the bullying child with the silence only a mother could achieve, she put her hands on her hips, and used her 'mom voice'. “Excuse you, sir, but what do you think you're doing?” The bully jumped and spun around, confused and surprised at being caught.
“I-I....”
Madla held out her hand, no nonsense face still firmly attached. “You will give that paper to me, and you will turn and apologize.” She was calm but firm, certain that this child would do as she said, just as Anastara did. Sure enough, after a couple of stutters and Madla's unrelenting look, the child handed the paper over, said a quick apology and ran off to get lost in the pack of children. “Are you okay?” The Geist asked, getting a silent head nod indicating 'yes'. “Do you want to talk to me about it?” The boy shook his head but Madla remained where she was; sometimes all it took was a little silence and the willingness to listen.
“I don't draw good.” the child finally replied, looking down at his feet. “It always comes out stupid and wrong. I did the bat wrong, so it should be ripped up.” the orphan made a half-hearted grab for the paper, but Madla kept it from him.
“What do you mean, wrong? Let me see.” The geist looked at the paper, and tilted her head to one side. “it's a nezubat, right? It's got an extra eye and a couple of extra wings, but you've drawn a recognizable nezubat. You didn't draw him wrong, either, just creatively. My daughter, Anastara, she drew me a cat with five legs and two tails, and I hang it proudly on my fridge for all my friends to see. I would be proud to hang this one too, if you'll let me keep it.” The geist got a suspicious look and a teeny nod. She'd take it. “Great! Well, all artists need to have their name on their work. Tell me yours and I'll write it down for you.”
“My name is Thayne.” The boy said, sidling closer to watch her write his name on the back. “Are...are you really going to keep it? And put it on your fridge?” Madla looked down at the boy and the glimmers of hope and happiness in his eyes from her simply offering to hang his picture up, melted her heart. She stood and held her hand out to the boy who bit his lip before taking it.
“Well, the only way you'll be sure that I put it up on my fridge is if you come home with me,” She stated matter of factly. “Come along, Thayne, let's go talk to the people in charge and see if we can get you out of here.”

Entry: Amber was actually nervous. This was pretty rare for her, but also what she was about to do was something she had been thinking about for a while now. Her roommate, Yue, was discussing having kids with her partner, and while Amber didn't have anybody like that in her life, over time she'd started feeling like she would love to be a parent as well. Imbuing a stone on her own was still a little outlandish in her mind, but there were plenty of orphans in need of loving families. That was a good enough way to get started, in her opinion. Now, hopefully she could connect with one of the children well enough..
After a moment of going over the technicalities and such with the staff, she entered the playroom, looking over the little freshlings absorbed in various activities. She had brought a bag of Hallowed Haunt treats and toys with her to share with the kids, and soon enough she was surrounded by little eyes staring at her as she began handing out the sweets and toys. A few children however didn't join the group, instead they stayed at the back of the room, simply looking at the imp timidly.
Once the flock was gone from around her and all the other kids were enjoying their treats, she made her way to the quiet little group, smiling widely as she sat down at their table. "What are you guys up to?" she asked in a friendly manner. The freshlings looked at each other, and finally one of them spoke up. "We, um.. we're playing cards. We didn't wanna go with the others, they're so noisy." Amber chuckled and nodded a little, and then she noticed another child at the table was looking at her bag with doe eyes. "D-do you still have any of those treats left, Miss?" they asked in a small voice. "Do I? I may have just saved the best for last~" she whispered playfully, immediately took the bag on her lap and handed out the remaining goodies to the kids.
"So.. mind if I play with you guys for a while?" she asked then, leaning closer in with the little group. All of them nodded, dealing her a hand of cards as well, and briefly going over the rules of their game. Over the span of the next few hours, she slowly managed to get the kids to open up about their life at the orphanage, about their interests, their favorite subjects at the academy and various other things. One child in particular seemed to begin taking a shine to her, eventually scooting a little closer to her and even snuggling into her tail. One by one, the kids began to tire out, and Amber helped the orderlies get them all to bed. Before leaving, she went back into the office, asking if it would be possible to make the arrangements for one particular child to come back home with her..

a babbin for you~! drawn by Geyser Eelborn. (dropped by nepsah) no mutations! 10/26/2015 8:24 AM - Tweaked some pronouns
Username: mewmew kittykat94 Do Not's: I'm cool with everything! [I will also be questing Elsie!]
Entry: Elsie nervously paced outside of the gates, looking back to the orphanage and back to her feet. She felt like she was going to wear a hole into the sidewalk if she kept this up, but she was nervous, nearly nauseous at this point as she clutched her bag even tighter.
She was never good before an important decision. She needed this to go well, otherwise... well, she wasn't going to think of the otherwise. She needed to succeed. But there was someone in particular that she needed to see again. The first step was making her way into the building. Now was the time!
She made her way up the steps, trying to ignore the note of blue from her shoes left upon the sidewalk and stepped inside, heading to the receptionist, "Hello, I was hoping it would be possible to see Ash?"
The receptionist smiled, welcoming her in with a soft smile. She didn't seem much of a talker, but Elsie followed afterwards without hesitation. She was lead down the halls and it felt like a fair hour before they made it to the playroom. "Right this way," so she did talk. Elsie was nearly surprised as she walked in with a soft thank you.
She walked to the little one that she had met before, tapping them on the shoulder. They turned, offering a smile when he saw that it was Elsie. "Elsie!" She sat beside them with her own smile. He sure had a contagious one, that was for sure. That was one of the first things she noticed when she had met them. She was lucky to have gone to the museum when she did, to find the orphanage doing a small field trip.
"Hey buddy, I have a small surprise for you!" Pulling out a present out of her bag, she offered it to them. She prayed that he would like it. She saw how his eyes lit up as he saw all the paintings and charcoal pieces, and she wanted to give them a taste of it. Art had a special place in her heart and she wanted to let that desire bloom in someone else's as well. As the child tore into the wrapping, Elsie smiled, but kept quiet until he was finally able to see it. "Ash, I had a reason for visiting today...
"I don't want this to sound like a bribe, but how would you feel about coming home with me? I'll do everything I can to make you happy. We could draw all the time or.. maybe go on more trips, or whatever you want really, um..."
The sound of the sketch pad and pencils hitting the ground nearly made her stomach drop, quickly closing her eyes for the no that was sure to arrive.
But little arms wrapped around her neck and she opened her eyes to a grinning Ash, "Elsie, should I call you mom now?"
She bit back the tears, "If you want to, then yes," she said as she wrapped her arms around the child.

Colleen slipped into the orphanage and took a deep breath. There was evidently an open house going on today and while she didn't really approve of children being paraded around like livestock at auction, she supposed that perhaps for these city folk if you didn't trot out the poor dears and make them do their "tricks" they'd never get noticed. Wasn't fair. Least when her parents had died she'd had an aunt to take her in. Granted at the time she hadn't known she had an aunt, a falling out between her and her father some years prior to her even being imubed, but at least it had been something. That had all it had been at first, something. Maeve, her aunt, of course, hadn't wanted her brother's daughter invading her home anymore than Colleen had wanted to be there. It had gotten better though, slowly but surely.
Maeve had clothed her and fed her and raised her right, so wasn't it right she try to give back to some poor child that had suffered a tragedy that was no fault of their own? She'd done the math, even with her taking classes at Leviathan and working, she could swing this, provided she passed muster. Little did the kids know they weren't the only ones being checked over with a fine tooth comb. She smiled a bit at that, feeling just a touch better about this situation she'd put herself in. She picked up a clipboard along with a pen and took a seat to fill out the paperwork that even allowed her to catch the smallest glimpse of a child and once finished gave it to the individual behind the counter. She then took a seat to wait for them to pronounce her fit or otherwise.
It only took twenty minutes, but it honestly felt like forever before someone came into the waiting room and guided her back to the playroom where the children were carrying on. Colleen was then told she an hour to observe and interact with as many of the childern as she liked and after that could arrange a one on one meeting with her favorites. The redhead bristled a bit. "Favorites." What if they were all her favorite? She wanted to make a snappy retort but decided against it and simply nodded and made her way into the room.
She was swamped almost the minute the youngsters noticed her, and they reminded her strongly of kiddens when you had a carrot, all wide eyes and eager tail wags, well those that had tails, even then she was pretty sure those that didn't were still wagging them. She smiled and laughed and tried to remember names but there were just so many, her head was honestly spinning after five minutes.
An hour went by fast though and eventually she'd at least spoken to a majority of the children even the shy ones in the corners. There were a few that had struck a cord with her but none seemed just...right? Was that an okay feeling to have in this situation? She glanced up at the clock and saw she still had fifteen minutes left on her hour, most of the children, however had scattered back to their own devices in the last five minutes or so. She stood up from the spot on the floor she'd been occupying and dusted off her skirt. She supposed she could go set up the private meetings now...did she really want one though? She brushed hair behind her ear and made for the door that lead to the hall and as she closed it she heard a very small sound, a sniffle?
She turned her head and out of the corner of her eye saw a small child peeping from around a door way. "What are ya' doin' out here, little one?" she asked gently going over and kneeling down just in front of the child.
" 'M sick." came the sniffly response and the girl proceeded to wipe her nose on the back of her sleeve. "Suppos' to be in bed."
Colleen tilted her head slightly and appraised the child. "Then why aren' ya in bed? Ya won' get better if ya don' rest." she said gently.
"I know." the girl looked down at the floor and shuffled a bit before looking back up at her. "But i's open house day...an' I won' get adopted if 'm in bed..." there were tears in the corner of those eyes.
"No' this time, no." Colleen agreed. "But there will still be other times, right?"
The girl stamped her foot slightly in protest. "I always am gettin' sick though! An' it's feels like I always miss open house day! I never get to meet anyone!" a few tears escaped, but the girl's little tantrum caused her to start coughing, causing Colleen to frown and reach over and rub her back until she stopped.
She wondered how much was childish elaboration and how much was true, but decided to to give the girl the benefit of the doubt. "Suppos' that is rough, but yer health is still most important, little one. Standin' in cold hallways won' help you much."
Downcast eyes, small voice. "I know. I jus', I jus'..." the tears were real now and one hit Colleen's hand that was resting on her knee.
The Demoness' heart broke a bit then, and she gently tugged the child into her arms and gave her a hug. "There, there. There, there. It'll be alright." she gently rocked them from side to side as she got the tears to stop. She then pulled back and used her thumb to carefully wipe away the stragglers and tilted the girl's head up to hers. "What's yer name?" she asked.
"Celandine."
Colleen nodded and then stood up. "Okay, Celendine. I'll be righ' back. Don' move." she gave the girl a smile and then went in search of the woman who'd escorted her to the play room. She knew who she wanted her meeting with.

a kidlet from nepsah for you~ u w u Diamond Pupils, Colored Pupils, Double Tinywings, one Feathered, one Webbed Username: Roserain Do Not's: Not a fan of cyclops, more than two eyes, or eyes placed in odd locations.
Entry: Rapping the end of his pen, Draven stared off into space rather than attempt to focus on his coursework again. Thoughts chased themselves back and forth as he leaned to rest his chin on his fist. Glancing at the clock on the wall, he sighed and sat back again. Yue would be in classes most of the day, and he’d picked up an extra shift but he still had about two hours before he had to get out the door. He had planned on getting through this chapter first but he wasn’t going to retain this when he couldn’t give it any attention.
Frustrated, he rubbed his face with both hands. They had talked several times on the topic of kids since that first conversation. The search for soul stones was still a fruitless one so far, but more than the disappointment of that there was just this thickness in his thoughts, memories of his own childhood. Yue’d brought up adoption again, something he was sure was just a matter of time for them; especially with Yue’s track record in the big sibling program. For Draven, though, there was another driving force to it.
Even though he knew what he would see, Draven shifted the chair so his back was now to the desk as he gazed out upon the apartment. Shade slept on the couch, most of the flitterats were busy going about their lives, and Yue’s nezubats seemed content to doze on one of the many perches, though he wasn’t sure if Sor was actually asleep. Everywhere there were signs of two lives blending together; his coffee mug there, one of her paintings here. His cello, her telescope. One of his shirts was actually strewn on the couch, and he made a note to put that in the laundry before Yue came home and saw it. Nine, he was pretty sure this was what it looked like to be part of a family. Curling his wings inward protectively, he couldn’t help feeling bad for the child he once was. The freshling that didn’t feel like he belonged, that would stash his stuff in small niches and hide from everyone. The sense of being lost. Not that the caretakers weren’t wonderful, of course they were, but something was always just… missing.
For a long time he thought it was because of being Fallen. They had a culture, sure, but the mystery of how they came to be had been so much of his focus as a junior. Something he could puzzle over and be emotional about that he could actually name. Drav crossed his arms and shook his head, causing his jewelry to chime quietly. So many of them had been orphans, but they’d found a sense of family in each other, whereas he didn’t really. Not until he met Yue anyway. It had to be someone in particular for him, and that was her. Whether or not that was a Fallen thing or just a him thing, he didn’t know. Yue was better at that racial sociology than he was. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder what life would’ve been like had he not felt so out of place growing up. He tried to imagine being a freshling again, to be in classes and attending the Academy, but this time being able to go home. To have a family to spend the holidays with.
Tilting his whole chair back and forth for a moment, lost in thought, he let it back down suddenly as he came to a decision. Yue had talked about going to the orphanage anyway, and this was obviously a thought that wasn’t leaving him alone. Maybe if he wrote a letter, he could drop it off on his way to work. If he got a response it would be a welcome and happy surprise for Yue, and if not they could always go in person, together, later. Besides, even if they couldn’t find stones this month, the banks would open soon and they could register to receive them. But to give someone already here, already awake, a home of their own…
Stretching his wings out, he stood up and paced for a moment, gathering his thoughts before sitting down and picking up his pen again.
To the staff,
My name is Draven, and I am a current student at Grendel University. My partner, Yue, is also attending but at Asterion. I’m writing on the behalf of both of us to express our desire to welcome a child into our lives and our home. We were orphans ourselves, and now that we are in a position to be parents we’re hopeful to give someone the love and family they deserve. To be supported and wanted, to belong somewhere, to have someone and somewhere to go home to.
I can’t promise we’ll be perfect, or will always know what to do or say. I don’t know if we’ll always understand, or won’t embarrass them from time to time. I do know, though, that even though we’ve never met them yet, we love them and miss them so much that it hurts. There is an emptiness where they already belong and we didn’t have words to express it until now. If you can help, if you can send them home to us, we would be forever grateful for making our lives whole again.
With sincerest wishes, Draven
Grabbing a new sheet, he made a clean copy that wasn’t covered in scratch outs and made sure to have a neater hand with this revision. Reading it over once more, his mouth was a hard line as he thought of Yue sitting at the window, gazing out with a loneliness he hadn’t been able to name. He wondered if his own parent or parents, somewhere in some point of time, had thought of him that way. For the first time he wondered about the side of it, all those parents whose children had been lost to time. Did they die in the war not knowing their children would be awoken someday? That they protected them after all? He was gripped by this fierceness of thought that nearly took his breath away. If they imbued stones together, even if there was a war going on, he would’ve fought bitterly to give them the absolute best chance. That he could love so intensely someone he’d yet to meet was astounding and yet powerful. He suddenly understood Yue’s connection with Tobias and had a whole new respect for his little Geist mate. Smiling gently as he thought of her meeting their child for the first time, Draven folded the letter and made up the envelope for it as he checked the clock again.
s**t, he was going to be late if he didn’t hustle. Scrambling in a chaotic rush, he grabbed what he needed and locked the door behind him, taking the detour that would lead him to the orphanage first.

Entry: [NPC/Potential Quest Parent] I write to you in my wishes to do something truely meaningful in my life time. Much of that life has been spent on self gain, and while I do not regret my time focused on work as I have had some truely wonderful experiences with friends and co- workers alike, I want to make more cherrished memories with a family. I have so much to give, a wealth of love, time, and security. It would be such a waste to eventually leave this life without ever knowing the joys of parentood so I would like to give a happy home to a child that can call me mother and likewise a child that I can call daughter or son. Attached to this letter are identification documents and the nessicary paperwork in order to adopt. I look forward to visiting the Orphanage this Thursday, please have your end of the paperwork finished by that time. Regards, Argona Pryd Setting down their quill and leaning back in their chair Argona read over her letter a few more times. Was she coming off as desperate? Was the letter too short and informal? Working for the vast majority of her life has left her feel awkward in affairs that were not entirely formal. The process of adoption let alone parenthood were all uncharted waters for her. Perhaps this is why even now sitting in the comfort of her own home she felt anxtious waiting for her appointment at the orphanage. This whole experience was both exciting, frightful and left her longing to have the child at home and settled. Rising from her chair she took one last glance at the letter before slipping it in an envelope and sealing it before heading of for bed. She had a lot to prepare for in the upcoming days and she didn't want to have anything left undone that might cause the child added stress upon moving in.

Entry: [NPC]
Arilyn was a very quiet nightmare, in person. She expressed herself through writing, and actions. She was lonely, but it meant that perhaps the connections she made were more treasured and important.
her hands shook as the pen tip dropped on paper and she took a deep breath.
Quote: Hello, You do not know me, and I do not know you. Yet, I find that I have a deep need to write of the importance of that. I am merely a stranger but I do not wish to be. I have heard that there is children in dire needs of homes. Homes with love and care. I am a sheltered creature, but I think...I think I could be a good home to one of the children. I have admittedly never had a child. Nor a pet. Nor anyone that would rely on me so much. I am nothing but honest though, and earnest in learning and caring and growing with the little one. In this, I hope perhaps that it will not only benefit the child, but myself as well. New experiences, frustrations and care. I do not think of this as charity, but as a mutual understanding of growth. So, I have attached my credentials, in hopes that they will suffice for a child and yourselves. I look forward to hearing back, should they meet the requirements. Sincerely, Arilyn
She looked it over once, twice and then placed the documents she had in the envelope. It took two days for her to muster the courage up to send it off, but once she did, she had the sense feeling of giddiness and hope.
Would she? Could she be good enough for a little one? She wouldn't know unless she worked and tried hard.

Entry: Theon had been, for the longest time, a very lonely man. Most viewed the demon male as well, a bumbling failure. It was true, his somewhat forgetful nature had led to more accidents in the alchemy lab than he'd care to admit. It wasn't that he chose to be forgetful, it was just that... he worried about the future so. Many had told him to get a familiar or three but in truth - such things were horrid conversationalists. And since romantic partners were, well, nonexistent, his future was looking, well, rather grim.
It was this fact, perhaps, that prompted him to write the letter that he did to the orphanage. The following is the missive he penned to the Orphanage:
To whom it may concern,
My name is Theon, and I am an Alchemist of... middling regard. I will be honest, if you were to ask my colleagues (for I have no friends) I am a complete and bumbling fool. But, I have a large heart, and I wish most desperately to pass on my knowledge of the world to the next generation. As I am a man of no romantic prospects (or hope thereof - see above), I am left to but one resort. Adoption.
Know that any freshling tended to my care would be well cared for and loved - and treated just as if they were of my soul. I know it is a difficult decision for you - the placement of these poor orphan freshlings - but know that I will spare no expense to see that they are provided for. My only wish is to care and provide for our future.
- Sincerely, Theon
The letter - a bit more ink blotted and stained than he would have liked, was swiftly placed in an envelope and mailed. There was nothing left to do but wait - and hope.

Entry: [NPC Parent]
A nervous hum sounded and near constant rhythm tapped against the table top as slender fingers continued the movements. Ion twitched nervously. Oh man, where they suppose to be nervous? Because Ion was definitely nervous. Hell, really, Ion wasn't even sure if he was fit to be a parent. What if the kid didn't like him? Oh man, what if none of the kids liked him? He vaguely wondered if it was possible to creep out of the room. A noise startled him, and it took everything in Ion's power not to jump right out of his skin.
No. No. No. Breathe darn it. It's a kid. Heck the poor thing was probably more scared of him then Ion was of it. Yeah... Just breathe. He could do this.
Ion poked his head into the designated room, blinking widely at the small child sitting on the floor with a dozen blocks sprawled out around them.
"Uh... Hi." He squeaked, waving sheepishly.
The child looked up momentarily, before uttering it's own small hi. Ion took it as a sign, and kept going. "What are you, um, making?" He asked, taking a few steps into the room and closer to the child.
"A tower." Again the little ones gaze flickered up at him.
"Oh yeah? Is it gonna be a tall tower?" The child paused, looking from the block in it's hand, to the half made tower, before nodding slowly. "Yeah." Ion crept farther in, till he was close enough to the child. He had been about to ask the little one another question, when the tower suddenly collapsed, and Ion went still. His eyes flickered from the kid to the pile of blocks several times and he mentally braced himself for whatever may come. So when the kid simply sighed and dropped the block in it's hand, Ion blinked. "Uh... Do.. Do you want some help? Maybe we could uh... keep it from falling over... Together?"
The kid blinked, looking up at him, before nodding slowly again. "...Okay."
Ion sat, gathering some of the blocks around him into a pile. "...My name's Ion. What's your's?" A little late with the introduction but... Better late than never?
This time however, it seemed it was the child's turn to come down with a cause of nervousness.
"....M-mael."
Ion smiled. "Well Mael... It is nice to meet you. Let's build the biggest tower in the history of biggest towers, okay? I think we're gonna need more blocks though. What do you think?" Mael blinked, before nodding once more. "I know we're they hide the bigger blocks. I can show you later."
