HAHAHHA YES WE DO!! >8D

When the light came on, Xiu found himself wincing at the raw glare of the hanging bulb. Contrary to popular belief, the presence of that lone source of light hardly improved matters at all for it only served to highlight the dark stain that occupied a central rickety table and despite the dank odour of mildew, a rank undertone of something much more visceral was beginning to make its presence known to the two unfortunate visitors.

Then, like in so many horror movies, the stain began to spread; steadily and serpentine, it wove its way up the walls and onto the ceiling where it pooled. Despite the precarious situation that they were in, Xiu found himself unable to look away. And then regretted it.

The emerging creature was foul and pustulant. If Xiu’s alarm bells hadn’t been ringing before, they were certainly doing so with extreme clarity now. Shoving Yves as hard as he could, the duo barely managed to escape the torrential sludge aimed at them but were now confronted with a creature coming towards them in mid-pounce. Instinctively Xiu lashed out with his sword and felt the pull of the blade as it passed through the creature. Then, all at once, came the nauseating splat of putrid flesh on stone as the creature splatted onto the cobblestones below.

An epiphany suggesting that it was best that the both of them put as much distance between themselves and ‘it’ arose and Xiu turned to Yves.

“Run, Yves!” urged Xiu as he grabbed the human by the hand. “There has got to be an exit somewhere!”

As they hurried out of the lighted chamber, Xiu noticed a narrow passage branching away from the main hallway and what appeared to be steps leading up (and hopefully away from this ghastly place). Tugging Yves in that direction, the duo quickly made their way up the stone steps. Their passage was aided by the soft glow of the Sigel’s rune.

However, what greeted them in the gloom beyond the steps appeared to be the stuff of nightmares.

Impaled on chained hooks attached to the cobwebbed ceilings were several skeletons and superimposed over these skeletons were the ghostly images of flayed humans with many appearing to jerk and twitch in their everlasting torment.

“Just…what is this place…,” whispered the Sigel.

"Is it really...are humans capable of doing this...?"

Something in Yves told him that, because he was older than Xiu, he should have been able to protect him. And yet there was Xiu, protecting him. Whatever had spread and rose from that dark stain was not human, nor did it even seem animal - it reeked of hatred and darkness, and when Xiu's blade cut through it, the smell made Yves gag.

He allowed himself to be dragged about like a rag doll, because fear had caused his legs to become numb.

They ran, and ran. And for a moment, Yves thought that they might be safe. He gladly took the moment that they stopped to catch his breath, although each inhale felt like needles stabbing at his chest. When he looked up, his mouth fell open in abject horror.

He didn't see the ghosts. He didn't need to. The skeletons that were chained to the ceiling were enough to cause his mind to reel. Feeling that he definitely had not signed up for this kind of experience, Yves held onto Xiu's shoulder for support and clasped his other hand to his mouth to suppress another gag. His stomach housed the sickly and heavy pressure that suggested he really was going to throw up this time, but he somehow managed to hold it back and locked his gaze back up to the ceiling.

"This..." he croaked through his fingers. "This isn't real... is it?"

God, he thought, please let it be some sort of stunt. Let all of this be some kind of attraction for the 'haunted' manor.

Deep down, he knew it wasn't. Xiu had drawn his blade. That smell and that sound had been unmistakable. He didn't know how far down they were beneath the manor, or if anyone would ever find them down there.

And he didn't know if Xiu was going to be able to protect the both of them for much longer. He had to pull his weight and make himself useful. For both of their sake.

Letting go of Xiu, Yves pushed his bangs back and wiped the sweat off of his forehead. He wasn't anywhere close to being ready to die, but... he wasn't going to drag Xiu down with him by being useless.

He took a step forward, into the room. "Hey... Xiu... I'm going forward," he announced, his voice weak.

"You know, humans...are capable of many things. And I think..." He held his breath for a few seconds and then let it out.

"I think the true secrets of this manor have not yet been found." He cleared his throat and tried not to think about the skeletons dangling above him. Would the room be filled with traps? He stepped carefully; he couldn't feel anything, he was numb.

"I will search for the exit down here. If you... if you see an exit higher up, please take it." He paused in his search and looked down at his hands. They were shaking. He felt real fear. It wasn't a show, it wasn't an attraction for horror fans anymore.

"I don't want to die, but... d-don't let me weigh you down. Please. G-go get help and... I'm sure someone will come find me."

Above him, the chains began to slowly sway.
