"I know," Hitsu replied just as quietly. She tried to keep her words even, but her voice still trembled. "I miss him too..." And others... But she didn't dare to let her mind dwell on more than one potential loss right then. She couldn't handle it. Her denial was, unfortunately, still plenty strong.
Not wanting to be the first to let go, knowing that Cecil wouldn't admit if he needed the comfort just as much if not more so than she did, she rubbed over his back gently and just let him cry. She couldn't help but wonder if this was the first time he'd broken down, or if he'd been alone with his own thoughts every time before. It was heartbreaking to imagine, but all too familiar.

By some miracle Cecil managed to keep from full out sobbing. His eyes were red and his face was streaked with tears but for the most part he had held it together. He needed to hold it together, not just for his own sake.
When he finally pulled away he began to wipe at his face trying to hide what evidence he could. "Sorry. I'm sorry, Hitsu. I didn't mean to break down." He managed a weak smile, a pale imitations of the ones he usually wore but it was something. They would get through this it just wasn't going to be easy.

Sitting up straight again once he'd pulled back, Hitsu wiped at her eyes with the wrist of one of her sleeves. Her eyes were probably too red to even pretend she hadn't been crying anyway, so the wetness on her shirt wasn't a big deal to her.
Looking up to Cecil when he started to apologize, she shook head softly. She offered him a smile, too, but it was just as difficult an expression in that moment. She still meant the words that followed.
"Please, Cecil. You don't have anything to apologize for... Least of all this. It's not good to keep things bottled up. You know that, right?"

"I know.." He nodded. "I know its just..being upset about it won't change anything either."
Once his face was dry he moved to take another step back, shifting his weight like he wanted to pace but too tired to do just that."Everyone is stressed and trying to hold it together, I don't want anyone to worry." He wiped at his face again even though the tears were gone. His cheeks still burned like the evidence was there for all eyes to see.
Taking in a deep breath trying to calm his nerves Cecil mentally searched for a topic to talk about. Anything but what they were on. "You are more than welcome to rest here if you want. I think I might see if Corey will let me have something from the pantry." He had tried to be sparing with rations and sharing what he had but he could now no longer recall when it was he had eaten last.
