And with one more strike, the ghost was vanquished. Jack rubbed at his eyes with a groan.

Chel had definitely been helping the whole time, she just didn't hit the monster. She fired bright shiny light shots to distract the beast while Jack did his thing.

Yes that was totally it.

When the revenant dissipated she went to his side and held out her hand for a high five, wiggly fingers included. Because celebrating murder with a high five was what they did.

As they continued down the path, the cave opened up to glittering gemstones, roman architecture and mirrors. By god so many mirrors. Chel poked a few of them, seeing if they did anything. She couldn't say she was really "on her guard" when so far this place didn't really ... feel threatening. She even gestured him over at one point to take a selfie in one of the mirrors.

Eventually they came to a steep drop, and Chel said, "I'll go first~" Before he could protest, she was over the ladder ... into another hallway that was nearly identical to where they'd been.

"This look the same to you?"

- All players roll 1d100 to determine their result.
Roll 1-25: It appears that you've lost your way, and the halls get darker and darker with every turn. Keep rolling, and subtract 3 Stamina because of how long it took to find your way.
Roll 26-50: You are entranced by your own reflection in a nearby mirror. A whispering runs through your mind, full of all your doubts and fears and-- you snap out of it. Keep rolling, and subtract 1 Stamina.
Roll 51-70: The corridor ends rather abruptly, opening into a steep drop. However, there's a ladder, and it leads to another level of the same kind of hallway you were in before. Weird. Keep rolling, and subtract 1 Stamina.
Roll 71-100: You manage to make it through the hall of mirrors unscathed. Continue to Round 3.

After all, if you couldn't celebrate murder, what could you celebrate? Especially a b*****d like that flashing the light in his eyes.

But he didn't like the feeling of the next room. There was nothing particularly eerie about it, and yet Jack couldn't help but feel the slightest timbre in the air, like someone had spoken. Unaware of how he slowed down, he waited until Chel had tried the ladder and called down before trying to proceed similarly.

A mirror caught his eye, however, and he couldn't help but turn to look. Strange that this particular fragment was so large and whole--enough to see most of himself. Jack couldn't put his finger on it, but the more he looked at his reflection, the worse it seemed to grow--not physically, or by any means he could describe. It was less than a whisper and more than a thought, like something was unearthing the gnawing doubts he already had and usually kept at bay.

They always die on you, something seemed to say. Why should she be any different? Haven't you seen so many of her deaths already, after all? You're being prepared for the inevitable.

When he came to with a jolt, Jack nearly fell over the side of the cliff. Panicking, he grasped the ladder like a lifeline, swallowed, and inched down every step, simultaneously trying not to look down and also silence his own swirling thoughts.

"A mirror image," Jack quipped once his feet were on the ground again, running a hand through his hair unconsciously. "We might be here a while."

Chel saw the look and it gave her pause. Combined with combing his hair, meant-

"You okay?" she asked, stepping a little closer. "What'd it do?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. This place just reminds me too much of the black crystal palace," Jack replied, "with the shards and all. And I have a particular dislike of cliffs." Neither were lies.

She nodded, neither coddling or invalidating him. Just accepting that he, like she, had hindrances.

"Just don't s**t out on me," she told him, reaching forward enough to wiggle his arm, shake off the mirror image. "And f'you do I'm here."

She traced ahead of him for a bit, stalking the mirrors for an exit. What she instead saw was a blonde version of herself. It said nothing, because it didn't have to. It was alone and that was enough. Whispers came secondarily, murmuring your fault.

Chel stood there for a good deal of time before shaking herself out of it and throwing a rock at the mirror to smash it. "I see what you mean."

"I know. But it'd take more than my own damn reflection to do that," he assured her with a wry smile. Funny, considering how often the clones in custody made him question himself.

Bracing for the loud crash, Jack gave her arm a light shake in turn as he passed by. Shake it off, T Swift. he noted as he tried a different path, trying not to move too far ahead. "That's what the mirrors remind me of."

She did try to shake it off, really she did, but they came in chorus.

Your fault, your fault, your fault-

Jack was nowhere in sight, having gone too far ahead; or perhaps the mirrors were playing tricks on her mind. Either way, she was alone.

Alone.

Chel hit the ground holding her ears. Normally she wouldn't just weirdly give up in the middle of a quest especially when Jack wasn't that far off, but it had been predetermined that she needed to get out.

So she murmured Deus Ex Machina into her pendant and opted to recooperate for now.

Quote:
[ Round 3: ] You reach a large, seemingly insurmountable... staircase. Yes. A staircase. Crumbling, precarious, and ever so tall.

- All players need to roll to get a total of 25 steps each to make it to the next round.
- All players must roll 1d10. This is how many steps your character walks up, accompanied by the following effect:

Roll 1: You slip on nothing. Subtract 1 Stamina.
Roll 2: With a spring in your step, you manage to not cut your feet on a huge shard of glass. Subtract 1 Stamina.
Roll 3: - 50% of your remaining HP. A large shard of glass slices into your abdomen.
Roll 4: Instant death for you. Return to Round 1, reroll stamina, and proceed.
Roll 5: Fog obscures your view, so you step on glass caltrops. Subtract 3 Stamina.
Roll 6: -5 HP. A vicious hand wraps around your ankle, cutting into your flesh. Subtract 2 Stamina.
Roll 7-10: Nothing happens. Subtract 1 Stamina.

It had been too long. "Chel?" Echoes. He considered back tracking, but two things stopped him: one, the various mirrors were disorientating, and he wasn't sure which path he had taken any more; two, Chel wouldn't want him to delay even if he could.

Pendant, Jack told himself. Worst came to worst, she knew to pendant out. He turned back to the slippery looking staircase, braced himself, and began to climb.

Somewhere in the midst of a climb, something grasped his leg. Grasping the bars, he immediately wrenched his leg out and managed to catch a glimpse of what looked like a hand before it retreated, though what it was attached to remained a mystery.

A glass shard broke the steps up, making it precarious to move for a bit. Jack was still a little hyper aware of where he planted his feet after that hand incident.
