He moved more quickly and quietly than he had since he'd lost his sight, scrunching in beside her and pulling her as close as he could without jostling either of her arms, since he had no idea how badly she was injured. Had they been outside they might have just run away, but in here they would have to wait.
Eventually the undying lost interest and shuffled away, but Max waited quite a bit longer before he moved again, and then he only went so far as to scoot away from Diana to give her some space. "It's gone, right?" he said softly. "And you're okay?"
The creature had left behind a foul odor, or so he thought, but the smell lingered long after he couldn't hear it. Max slid farther away from the woman, squinting his sightless eyes in the direction of the stench even though that didn't help him discern what it was at all. "What's over there?" he asked, still whispering.

"I'm okay, just bumped my shoulder when I tried to hide. Dislocating it has not been a fun experience," she sighed, trying her best to crawl her way out from under the desk without hurting herself even more. She could smell the foul odor, but wasn't too sure exactly where it was coming from. Whatever it was would most likely be very unpleasant, but they were there to check things out so it would be their next stop in this strange adventure. Helping Max to his feet, she kept her hand in his as she followed where the scent was coming from until it was practically unbearable. A few printers lined the room they were in as well as a couple of computers and other kiosks. There was a large engineering printer in the corner with the rolls of paper ripped out of it, a strange substance that definitely was not ink coating it. Another laser printer sad adjacent it, pages upon pages of printer paper scattered about it. The stench was so foul she was almost gagging at this point, but she had to take a closer look. "Oh god," she groaned, turning quickly away and hiding her face from the brutal images of someone being stabbed. "L-let's get out of this room. Please, Max." Smerdle Yay for having knowledge of copy rooms from my last job. cool

"All right." He shuffled past what he presumed was the source of her objection, aiming for an exit that preferably wasn't the one they had come in through. Her tone was insistent enough that he didn't question that she had seen something awful, but he also wanted them to make as much forward progress through this place as they could. "I really am lucking out with this whole not being able to see thing," he commented softly, keeping up the chatter to distract himself from the smell, despite the relative closeness of the undying they had just hidden from.
"Is there a way to get out of here on this wall? Or am I leading us to a dead end?"

She laughed softly at that, relaxing as they moved farther away from the disturbing images. For someone without sight, she was thoroughly impressed by Max's ability to maneuver around things. As for getting to the back of the store....well they had come in from the main entrance so the only other way to get out had to be the emergency exit. "We need to head to the back of the store. Stick close to me, okay?" she said, squeezing his hand as they continued on down the undying had been earlier before. "Hopefully this place has a working emergency exit. That'll be our best bet of getting out of here." As they reached farther back into the store she groaned as she spotted more hoards of rats scurrying along. "More rats. I'm inclined to think something awful is coming up." No sooner had she said that they came upon another gruesome sight. "Oh for ******** sake are you serious??" she whined, trying to avoid looking at the half devoured body looking back at her. Every movement she made had its eye, or what was left of it anyway, following after her in a disturbing way.

Max nodded, keeping close out of necessity and comfort as well, though he wasn't about to tell her that now, for no reason. It was just nice that someone had his back, especially since he was in such a vulnerable position at the moment.
He heard the rats when she mentioned them this time since they were indoors and there were only a few competing sounds, but he had no time to question their presence before Diana was freaking out over the 'something awful' she had predicted. Max wanted to laugh really badly, so badly that he felt like the worst kind of person imaginable as soon as the impulse arose. Even so, that didn't stop the feeling. It must have been some sort of defense mechanism. That, or he was going insane.
"That bad, huh?" he asked. He hadn't laughed, but he was grinning like a kid who'd stuck an ice cube down the back of someone's shirt then darted away. "Do I even want to know? Just... steer me around it and let's get out of here. Use me as a human shield." He hadn't stopped smiling. "I'm sorry. Your reaction... I wasn't expecting that at all."

"I think I will since you offered. Just be glad you are blind and it's not watching you," she grumbled, stepping behind him and grabbing hold of his sides to steer him along. "Hope you're not ticklish." While he was much taller than her, she still managed to see just enough to move him around the disturbing body without having to look at it again. "Here's to hoping the alarm isn't still activated and we draw a ton of attention to ourselves," she tried to joke, but with how her voice shook it was lost. Smerdle It's all good. Maintenance people have been messing with the internet and stuff all day so there's no rush. <3

Watching her? So whatever was in here was alive but not chasing them? Weird. Max sobered quickly enough as she moved him forward, holding his hands out in front of him so he wouldn't bump into anything she might have missed. When they reached the wall, or better yet, the the door with its long handle that indicated the back exit, he turned to face her, hesitantly fumbling to rest his hands on her shoulders and give them a faint squeeze.
"It'll be... as all right as it can be when we get outside," he said, honestly believing his reassurances. "Let's go."
