"I think it could," she said softly as she continued along the path ahead of them, looking for once in the presence of others as if she were truly eager to be somewhere. The tower, until now, had simply been her hope alone but looking back at Haumea and Ate made her realize that it was not simply her hope. They, too, had stakes in this.

The pathway was crumbling but the closer the three of them got to the tower, the more obvious it was that something had been keeping the worst of the rift damage from consuming this place. Was it simply that Metallia had known, all along, and reserved some energy for keeping it intact against the elements? Alkaid couldn't be sure and she never questioned anything that her mistress did or would do. This simply was as she simply was.

But she was pleased to hear Haumea echo her thoughts.

"All I know is that there are things guarding this part of our land that I could not begin to explain to you. Stay close to me, for even I can not tame whatever troubled souls our mistress has set to guarding this prize."

It was only a small time later that they entered the courtyard and Alkaid pointed out an old door on the side of the tower, poised at the top of a stone staircase and hanging closed on rusted hinges. She kept Lyssa tucked close to her chest but stopped to let the two corrupts pass her.

"Go ahead of me, I don't want to block your first view of the top." She wanted them to enter and ascend the staircase before her - she wanted them to be as stunned as she had felt when she finally set eyes upon it.

Following Alkaid and Haumea Atë observed the area. The place they walked upon had seen it share of damage, there was no doubt in that but everything was still standing, its existence defying the laws of the Rift itself. For Atë had stumbled across many sites of civilization left over in this dark place, broken walls, shattered paths but nothing that resembled what lay before them. It looked like there was reminisce of a village built around the tower. Small thatched house standing in varying levels of decay, crystal clusters breaking though walls and windows but none having fully succumbed to the harsh nature of this world. It was indeed like Metallia was keeping this place as preserved as she could, waiting for it to be found. And above all the mysteries this place held there was nothing that could drag Atë's eyes away from the tower. It slow destruction was too taking place, walls and windows smashed and crumbling but still it stood there, daunting in its height and power which Atë could no longer deny was flowing from it like a storm.

Nodding as Alkaid advised them to keep close she walked up the stone steps, her eyes flickering to Haumea as if to make sure he was still there. She wasn't scared, for it had been a long time since she had felt such a thing, but the anticipation was causing her heart to race and her palms to sweat. Approaching the solid wooden door Atë studied the ancient gateway and placed her hands on it, feeling like she was touching a part of history.

"What was this place?" She mused, not expecting an answer although she was sure Alkaid could have told her much. She griped the metal door knob, an ancient brass ring that groaned under the movement and she began to pull back. Her arms tensed as she pulled, muscle bunching as she tugged at the door dragging it open, every inch an effort until she had opened it wide enough to get them all through. But she didn't move forward. Instead she looked back at Haumea, opening up a hand as she offered it to him.

"Together, we go in together sugar, don't want to see it without you by my side." She took hold of his fingers as she pulled him close stealing a quick glance back at Lyssa and Alkaid before walking in, her breath catching in her chest. Blinking she took in the chamber before them. Surrounded in darkness the only light came from the sconce's hanging off the wall casting a dim glow, causing shapes and shadows to dance and flicker. The room was like the outside amazingly persevered. Dust hung heavy in the air and settled like a thick second skin coating every surface. It was difficult to make out the room but Atë caught the sight of overturned furniture and broken stone walls yet everything was still far more intact that Atë thought possible. It was obvious this place hadn't been touch in centuries but there were signs of Alkaid's presence throughout. Finger marks left in the dust, objects moved out of the way and the scuff of footsteps that lead from the entrance up to the stone stairs that hugged the wall. More torches led the way upwards and finding nothing here and no indication for Alkaid to stay Ate walked with Haumea towards it knowing there was only one way but up.

Letting Ate take his hand and pull him along, Haumea kept just enough attention on his feet to avoid tripping over anything. The rest of his brain was practically buzzing with wonder at what he saw. Of course, he saw the broken bits, the signs of a long ago struggle. Signs of decay and ruin. But those were so very, very minor!

"The amount of preservation," he whispered harshly, voice thick with emotion. "The energy it was have taken for Metallia to keep this place intact!"

Seized from within by an overwhelming sense of excitement, Haumea dropped Ate's hand and seized her in a quick, hard hug. Then, releasing her, he stepped forward, noting the same signs of Alkaid's own exploration as his companion. Feeling greatly daring, he reached out, touching random bits of machinery with feather-light fingertips. Grabbed Ate's hand to pull her along and point out bits of engine that looked mostly untouched.

Then, he happened to glance up and felt his breath catch. He wasn't sure what, exactly, he was looking at, but it was beautiful, graceful in design. And though shrouded in shadow, it seemed to him that it was connected in some way to the machinery littered about.

"Look up," he leaned close to Ate and murmured, one hand resting gently on her shoulder as he gazed upwards as well. But even as he observed, he was wondering. He became dimly aware of Alkaid joining them and dropped his eyes.

"What was this place? Can we repair it? Will it help us?"

The questions came out like gunfire as Haumea showed more agitation in this few minutes than ever before in his life. Whatever this place was, whatever it's potential, it had shaken him to his soul.

Or what was left of it.

The ascendant trailed calmly behind the chattering corrupts, choosing silence overall, so that they might discuss things amongst themselves and form their own first impression of what they saw. Most of this tower was still a mystery to her, though she had developed mostly unfounded theories. Their eyes, fresh and new, might see something she had overlooked.

"I have no idea what this place was, though I do believe that it can help us. Just like I believe it can be repaired."

Above them, at the top of the stairwell, the archway into the high tower room was visible and revealed their first glimpses of the treasure contained within its walls. Silver light rained down from a ceiling that, from a distance, seemed very much alive with glittering stars. Alkaid did not know if it responded to someone's presence within the tower or if, perhaps, it simply remained on now that it had been awakened from its years of slumber. Whichever, it was alive now, and Alkaid couldn't help but feel as if it were waiting for them.

"What I want you to see is at the top of this tower, dear ones."

She took the first step of the stairwell and beckoned for them to follow her as she ascended. What they had been looking for, what she had been looking for, was lying in wait. Alkaid knew in the core of her being that this was the beginning of her success.

They were so close. So very close.

The encouragement from both Haumea and Alkaid was enough to keep Atë walking forward. Again it wasn't that she was fearful or scared, well...maybe a little. Fear of the unknown was always a constant companion for mere mortals like themselves. No matter the brain or brawn one held, the unknown was a cruel and tempting mistress and no amount of preparation could truly get you ready. Even knowing Alkaid had explored this place already didn't stop Atë from trying to penetrate every shadowed corner with her eyes, waiting for something to move or stir. Her free hand was curled into a fist just waiting for something to happen as Haumea suddenly pulled her into a hug and she muffed a frightened scream into his shoulder.

"Ahh-fflgh....huph..aheh heh...whoooo heeh...
nearly crapped myself..." she babbled pulling away from him, a uneasy smile on face as she laid a hand over her rapidly beating heart. Waiting for her composure to kick back in she took to watching the other corrupted explore, her eyes following him and then Alkaid as she entered behind them, her graceful feet easily picking out the most sensible places to step as she swished past them in a collection of dark silks, Lyssa still very much contained within her arms.

She gave a quick nod in response and began following the Ascended, the stone steps beneath them cracked and worn down from a millennium ago. Step after agonizing step they made their way upwards, the stairs seeming to go on forever as it hugged the tower wall and crawled its way up. The silence was oppressing, their breathing the only sounds to echo in the closed space. It was only after what seemed an eternity that the stairwell even out, a small corridor that could barely be called that entering into a large opened space room.

Atë's gasp was almost a cry as she finally saw what their journey had been for.
