Had Aadhira tugged on Ethiriel's ribbon, it would have been met uncomfortably with upturned brows and a gentle pull away; the Frei didn't like her ribbon being touched by much of anything, and -- much like the peacock felt -- it would seem too personal, even for her. However, since this didn't happen, the silvery Raevan smiled politely.

"There is a touch of sadness," she confirmed, recalling what she could at the drop of a dime. "I do like the story. A grand adventure of fantasy and oddities."

With her own question glazed over in favor of Aadhira's towards her, Ethiriel took it in stride and continued. "It is quite lovely. I love how it is worded and its immersion."

Henry chuckled, raising a hand to idly scratch his chin. "To be honest, I have no idea where she gets her name," he said softly, though he was sure that if Ethiriel had been paying attention she would have heard it just as clearly. "I wasn't the one to name her. She was already a Frei before she came into my care."

He thought for a moment before sighing. "I would prefer if the melancholic tone gave up to a happier ending, though." Aadhira had never really been immersed in books before and the thought was certainly a novel one to him.

"My guardian does not have much in the way of books, being a more electronically-minded man." Now that was a blatant lie, and if Justin had heard, he would've made a face. The bookshelves at home groaned under the weight of video games, sure, but also sci-fi and fantasy novels galore. Aadhira had a gnat's attention span at times, however, and found reading for any set period of time difficult. Television was easier, the bright lights and noises appropriately distracting.

------

"Ah, sorry, I knew that - just thought Ethiriel might have told you." He tucked a bit of messy hair behind one ear. "You told me you weren't her first guardian when we talked about prep, I think. What was her first like?"

"Perhaps sometimes a melancholic tone is what the story needs," Ethiriel said, turning to face Aadhira better on the couch. She offered him a gentle smile as she searched for his arm -- once found, she rests her hand softly on his shoulder. "There is a proper time for all emotion, and finding the right moment is important. Often, in the end, things are brought into light and all is well."

Raising her chin in thought, the Frei gave a small nod of her head to the comment over Justin. With a silent scoff, smile still in place, she replied, "My previous guardian was much the same. He found too much time with his work over me."

--

Henry shook his head and gave a sympathetic smile, "Ah, right. It gets brought up every so often so I forget who I've told." Scratching the back of his head, his smile faded as he thought back of the two times he had met Leo.

"She came into my care because her first was too busy for her, is what I've come to understand," he said softly, trying to avoid Ethiriel's hearing. "She was neglected and doesn't think very highly of him. Very much a busy body. I only met him twice, though, and the second time wasn't he wasn't in high spirits."

He put a hand over hers, squeezing it gently. "Nevertheless, it's nice to hope for a pleasant ending, isn't it?" She couldn't see it, but his grin was sudden and very white. But the grin faded as she spoke about her previous guardian. In fact, it turned into a frown. Attention - wasn't that the point of a guardian? Or a father, or whatever Justin was. And whatever her previous guardian was.

"You did not deserve to be ignored," he said after a small while. On a whim, he reached out to cup the side of her face. "Is it better now?" While Aadhira's first instinct had been to defend Justin, and his whole body had stiffened, he recognized quickly that this was not about Justin. He knew that Justin did not, would not ignore him, and that was enough for now. Arguing that further might damage the small bit of opening up Ethiriel just did. And Aadhira, as always, wanted to know more.

--------

"What?" His voice was a little louder than intended, and Justin shot a hasty look around to see if the raevens were paying any attention. He continued on, more quietly. "I'm glad she's with you instead of having to continue on with someone who couldn't be there." Justin hmphed lightly. He didn't know all the details, of course, but Ethiriel was a living person, not some toy and at least her previous guardian had accepted his inadequacies. A small part of his mind reminded himself he wasn't being very generous - but did that really matter?

"I-is she okay, now?"

Being a very affectionate Raevan, the meeting of their hands was welcomed warmly and Ethiriel wrapped their hands together instinctively. She squeezed as well.

"Indeed. That is the silver lining that we all look forward to in a good story."

Now that Leo's dirty laundry was aired, Ethiriel's smile became conflicted. Aadhira's kind words were music to her ears and she couldn't help but sight. "Thank you..." she said, closing her eyes and leaning into the other Frei's hand comfortingly. Giving a simple, silent nod, Ethiriel hummed contently in his touch. Without thinking, her pheromones kicked in and the lovely scent of green tea filled the air around them in a blanket of amenity. "I am finding happiness where I am. Everything is much better."

--

Henry passed a glance toward the two Freis as well, but his expression warmed into pride at the sight of them becoming so comfortable with each other -- the nurse had only ever seen her so affectionate with one other Raevan despite her obvious crush on another.

They were already showing signs of friendship.

"Yeah, she's doing much better," Henry replied, looking back to Justin. "I'm not as busy as Leo was, but I wish I could be home for her more. She's getting better at taking care of herself, though, and my brother's sometimes here to help."

"Good. Shouldn't princesses be happy?" He smiled and settled a little more comfortable on the couch. "Can I listen to some of your story?" He tapped the CD player with one hand. Aadhira figured that, when he got bored (this would inevitably happen), they could just leave. He knew Justin had other things to do today as well.

-------

"Your brother - the sur-brusque guy? I met him before, in a store with Ethiriel, I think." He had barely stopped himself from calling Gabe surly. Not the best move in front of his brother. "I've thought about calling my sister down to help, but she's so busy with her Phd and I don't think Aadi would take kindly to a babysitter." Justin shrugged.

The request had surprised the Frei, and while she normally wouldn't jump into the middle of a story without context, herself, Ethiriel nodded, placing one ear bud into her ear while handing the other to Aadhira. She kept her head close to his, nearly touching, so that there would be no pull on the cord and they could listen comfortably -- it was nice, something she hadn't done before, and it was most welcoming.

Pressing the play button, Ethiriel reclined and closed her eyes.

--

Henry couldn't help but laugh, catching the correction. He knew his brother well, so he wasn't at all surprised that he had made such an impression on Justin. "Yeah, you probably did. I'm glad you found Ethiriel again, though!" he said, giving his fellow guardian a large smile.

Their conversation went on for a bit longer; the men discussed many things -- Gabe, Ethiriel and Aadhira, work and much more. As time moved by, the evening was fast approaching in their time together. A good portion of the story was shared before it was time for the peacock and his guardian to leave, and while Ethiriel didn't quite want Aadhira to leave, having enjoyed his company, but she was glad to exchange information so that they could talk further.

Goodbyes were given before the two left the house, and Ethiriel and Henry had a nice conversation about the visit once they were gone.
