"Do I look fat?" the golem suddenly asked as they entered the store. Jack gave it a strange look, tried to remember this was not the actual doctor, and completely ignored it. Let the thing squander in its own issues; he had plenty of his own.

The longer Jack scrounged for pieces to fit a decent suit, the more the golem grew impatient. Just as Jack was paying for the jacket and pants, he was dragged right out to another store.
He swore to God if it was Coach again...

He thought it was a sign, maybe, that the golem didn't harass him or try to drag him out while he was trying on suits in the store. For the first time since waking up, he felt a little less on edge.
"What are your plans?" Princess H asked as Jack adjusted his coat in the mirror. It almost could have seemed like it was intelligent, given the timing.
Rather than ignore it, Jack replied, "I'm going to marry someone. Want to say soon, but apparently I always say that." The word was actually "later," but details.
It felt so strange, saying it aloud. He gazed at himself in the mirror and for a moment felt a little out of his body, like he was watching someone else. It felt almost too real now that he was actually trying to find a decent suit for the occasion. He wondered how Ian and Shiloh could stand it.
"I love her," he added, not for the golem's benefit, but to see how that too looked in the mirror.
Two years ago, Jack would have never said anything of the sort--not without something rueful in his eyes. Now here he was, taking on a resupply just to get everything he could in order. His reflection appeared...He didn't know the word. Softer, maybe. It made his inner hackles rise at the thought. Smoother was maybe a better word: not without edges, but blunted. No, that felt just as offensive. He loathed the idea that he was losing anything at all, but it was impossible to say there hadn't been change of some sort. The man he was looking at now wasn't the same as before on a variety of different levels.
Starting with this damn suit. He was going to take an age figuring out which he wanted.

"I'm not wearing anything from here," the golem said distastefully as they neared Coach. While Jack was fine with the sentiment, he really wished he hadn't been, well, dragged their earlier in the first place. ******** faulty wiring.

"You're joking," the golem sulked as it read 'I Drink to Forget How ******** Old I Am' on one of the flasks and the fake pregnancy test Jack decided to buy.
"Nope. Have fun with the zombie baby."
He didn't have high hopes he was going to get alcohol from the mall of all places, so better to be safe and get some flasks for some instead. Close enough?
