They kept separate rooms for a reason - space and time was important, but like Otto, it didn't mean that Chance wasn't thinking about him.

His smile turned gentle. Chance stopped in his perusing of his desk and leaned his hip against it, arms folded across his chest. "It would be nice to get to work with you again," he said lightly. "Hopefully under circumstances less dire than these current ones," he added, in a bit of a dry tone.

He hummed in thought. "Did you wanna check on you room? See if it's all good? I mean, as far as I know, the dorms are just fine, but still."

"We got not-dire missions? Sign me the ******** up." Otto replied witha bored expression. Everything always seemed dire at Deus. Every day was a roll of the dice.

He shook his head. "Naw. I'm sure it's fine. Ain't important."

He laughed. "Just talking about the really dull surveillance missions."

Chance pushed himself away from the desk and padded over to Otto, reaching out to dust his fingers over his boyfriend's cheek lightly.

"You sure you doing okay?" he asked. "I know coming home to all of this s**t can't really be the ideal situation you expected to be in."

A tuft of blond hair fell away from his forehead as he tilted his chin up to meet Chance's gaze. Otto felt he was just fine, but Chance's concern made him doubt himself. After all, taking in all he saw in his life was slowly causing a barrier of nonchalance when it came to wide scale disaster. He was lucky this time. He wasn't here for it, and so far, no one he knew had died again. As hunters, their lives would always be like this. There was no way out. Pretending it was normal was everyone's go-to choice of dealing with it in stride.

"I guess I'm okay." Otto murmured. "I mean.... I dunno. Every time somethin' goes wrong, I start to panic. But.. I mean, I'm sort of used to it. This is just the way s**t is around here.."

He idly brushed away a few lingering strands of blonde, Chance's fingers light and almost delicate against his forehead. It wasn't so much that he thought Otto just simply wasn't telling him - Otto sucked at lying, after all - but the fact that he was so used to things being a chaotic, dangerous mess as different than the way Chance was used to it.

"Right now, I don't believe there's anything to panic about," he said lightly. "Not really. I mean, sure, half a building got moved around, which is pretty ******** weird. But no one we know died, right? And your room is probably okay, and I'm okay, and so are you."

He made a little face. "Sadly, this is what our lives have come to. But, well...it could have been worse."

"It could always be worse." He murmured back, his gaze unfocused. A life of peace and monotony was simply not in the cards for him. It never had been. It never would be. Otto found no comfort in saying it could be worse, because it would always get worse. He'd always have reason to panic.

Otto found he'd been wringing his hands together in a nervous response to his internal worrying. Now aware of it, he simply crossed his arms to stop from fidgeting.

Swallowing dryly, he focused his attention on Chance again. The very sight of him made it easy to calm down. Chance radiated an aura of passiveness. Sometimes the man's laid back attitude was comforting, and some times it made Otto worry even more. Worried that he was thinking secret thoughts Otto would never know. Worry Chance would hide things, worried he was quietly judging or disliking him in some way. Rationally, Otto knew better. It was simply built in doubts, stains in his soul that were taking their time coming clean.

"Maybe the next big disaster could bring something a little cooler to the fields."

Chance let out a hum of agreement, but didn't comment, continuing to brush absently at Otto's forehead and his hair with black painted fingers. He'd caught the nervous wringing of Otto's hands, gaze flickering down, and then back up to Otto's face; and he was gentle and calm in his ministrations, simply letting Otto go at his own pace.

A little laugh escaped him.

"Cooler like what?" he asked, a little teasingly. "Maybe another pie wall?"

"Nah, man. Nothin' can top the pie wall." He smirked up at Chance. "The pie wall was the ultimate." It had been the most beautiful thing his imagination had ever conjured. If that kid back then was Alice, then maybe she wasn't so bad after all.

"Maybe a water slide. Or.. a roller coaster." But if it was a runic roller coaster, he wouldn't trust it with his life.

He snorted with amusement. "The pie wall so very Otto," Chance said with a grin. "Even if I hadn't already been interested in you back then, I still probably would have known it was your doing."

He let out a hum. "I've never been on a water slide - or a roller coaster, for that matter," said Chance musingly. "There wasn't much to do in Detroit except sit there and try not to get killed, after all."

"I been on both. They're ********' awesome and you're missin' out." Well, at least he knew where he'd take Chance the next time they had the opportunity to go out. "Unless Dodge the Bullet was your kind of fun."

He put a hand on the top of Otto's head and ruffled his hair.

"No, I'd rather not spend my time dodging bullets," said Chance dryly. "I get that enough here. Detroit was pretty shitty in terms of being a good place to live, but, well..."

He shrugged a shoulder. "I like it here better."

"Cause the bullets here are less life threatening?"

"No, because your sparkling wit and cheerful, smiling face are here, duh," Chance deadpanned.

Otto frowned. "I'd take the bullets if I were you." He replied with a resounding amount of sass.

"Bullets would probably bring me less stress," Chance said agreeably. His hand dipped down to the front of Otto's shirt, and he bent down and tugged up at the same time, pressing a surprisingly gentle kiss to his lips.

"But I'll take you anyway, sorry," he said as he pulled away, smiling. "You're stuck with me, little s**t and all."
